Big T bird fan here. I love them. I've had nine over the years including three 76s two blackbirds and the Lull. I even sold my Orville T bird to Martin Turner.

From memory the volume kicks in quite quickly. I remember the day I got it I had my existing rig at home after a gig. I connected it to the mesa 215 and a 410 I had been using, turned it up to about 2 or 3, played one note and things fell off the mantelpiece. I couldn't have been happier.

The Boogie will take your SVT3s glasses off and stamp on them. Go for it. I had a 400+ for years and it easily competed with loud drummers and two full stacks. Great loud punchy tone. Effortless. And better than an SVT2 also. I wanted to like the SVTs but always sold them. I've had various Mesas for comparison but you'll be happy with the 400 if you want punch for slapping but with enough weight behind it. I did move on to a DB750 after which was tighter/clearer at higher volumes and saved on power tubes. Still heavy tho.

I may have just wasted 20 years on Valves.
So are you running the 2nd "dirtier" one in the effects loop of your cleaner one with a footswitch to activate it? I bet it sounds phenomenal. Nice one on putting together such a cool rig
The tech21 preamps let you link the footswitch thru each so you can channel switch. The out put from the first is run into the second but when one is on the other switches off so you get a 2 channel set up. You can wire them in parallel thru the effects loop but I'm running two channel clean/dirty for now. (My clean isn't that clean to be fair.) I've taken about three dirt pedals off my board now. -
So I get that everyone's tone goals are different. I've always had a bit of a fight getting a bass tone that was a mix of clean punchy bass with a grittier/clanky/hairy/whatever/ mid, top end. No one praises solid state amps for their break up so off I go year after year with ampeg/mesa/aguilar/ashdown/orange/fender amps of all valve and hybrid varieties. All good fun but as soon as I got the mids where I liked it the bass started to mush up. (Technical term) Then I got a pearce BC1. Fantastic. One channel sounding fat, add the dirt with the other channel. Great dirty tones but still somehow clearer and articulate. Done. Because I loved that, for curiosity i put a rig together with a tech 21 VTRM and a used crest power amp for a total of £430.00. That shouldn't have sounded better than the 2k valve stuff but for me, it did. I've since added another pre for clean/ dirty. Dirty/dirtier. So basically I've learned not to automatically go down a particular road because that's what everyone says or that's what your hero does. I really should have learned this sooner so thought I'd share.

2 preamps into a stereo power amp bridged? Possible?
tonyxtiger replied to mattyb's topic in Amps and Cabs
Gig rig make a remote switcher you could use to switch pre's. Or line mixer. Or some preamps will loop thru each other like wot I've done here... -
+ 1 on rolling back the tone a little with these cabs. It works so well It ruined tweeter cabs for me. I've used my ML12 with various mesa amps, ampeg amps, fender amps but right now with an old Crest CA6 power amp I got for £120 and a rackmount tech 21 VTRM it easily the best set up I've had. Probably not everyone's cup of tea but I love it.

After changing amps I went from more to less Problem with large pedals is they take up most of the pedaltrain pro. I have space for a couple more tho. I have a T65, a Beta and a warped vinyl on my list.

Are there winners in art forms now? If one person gets a fuzzy feeling when listening to the dexterity and technique of a song that has been written from the music school rule book, surely there will be others who get the same happy feeling from what pixies do, on the basis that pixies and Kim deal are average untalented etc etc. Surely it's all opinion or have we decided that a schooled "talented" musician is always better? To me some incredibly able jazz players fall into the Eric Morcambe camp of "all the right notes, not necessarily in the right order" I also think flea is awful but I'm ready for lots of people to correct me on that one.

Very much enjoying this thread derailment but I'm in the Kim camp so I'll suggest Charlotte Cooper from The Subways around the time of their first album. A refreshing change from all the lady bassists who were nailed to one spot of the stage. Obviously men do that too but she was quite spunky. I shouldn't have said spunky.

Loads of players were using spectors at this time for that tone. Alice in chains / skid row / bang tango / crimson glory etc. the videos for get the funk out, decadence dance, more than words all had spectors on show as I recall. I shouldn't recall but sadly I do.
