For sale is my Waterstone 12 string bass. It's the version 3 model with 32 inch scale and thinner body so easier to play than previous versions. Included is a free set of new strings. If you're running a RUP I'm guessing your pretty particular about gain levels across the spectrum. Not a bad thing either so +1 on the cab sim or any type of LPF to let you roll off high end steeply. The new Fuzzrocious Feed me would let you do that, and a few other things tone wise. Alternately just get a cab without a tweeter and use that. If you're using a sound with drive most of the time I'd even go as far as avoiding a cab with a small midrange cone. It's not as bad as a tweeter but when you hit the drive it's like the mid cone suddenly becomes way louder and it's still pretty shrill and separate sounding. I've used a Berg15 with a mid cone and a Baer 12 with a mid cone and it was the same. Most 10 based cabs will have a tweeter so grab a tweeterless cab with 12s or 15s which will naturally roll off earlier and will give you a much more pleasing distortion. Plenty guys out there with a mid heavy gainy tone using 15s.

Sansamp Tech21 RPM Rack Bass Preamp, Can It Do Clangy?
tonyxtiger replied to Dan Bass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hell yes. The parametric mids are before the tube emulation so you poke a good 1.5k into it you'll get plenty snarly, clank. If you can't find one to try then maybe a nearby music shop might have the sansamp para driver which is basically a smaller foot pedal variation. In my book the RPM is better than the RBI / VTBass / bass driver. Better drive. More flexible. Best at that Grindy midrange. I used to run 2 of them in a rack and it worked a treat. You'll just need a heavier gauge of strings and maybe slightly higher action depending how hard you play. There's also brands like Dunlop and DR who make stiffer strings particularly for drop tuning. I play a four string in drop C# so I changed from standard 105-45 to 115-55. Remember the tone will be different, typically a bit less punch and maybe some extra low mids but that's kind of the point. Give it a try.

I should add it's also a preamp really. Just not the usual sort that gives you fixed eq hump like a pointless spanky treble boost at 5 or 7k to help you blow up your tweeters or add extra hiss. This can give you a treble boost but it also lets you change the character of the treble so you can find something warmer or sharper sounding in the added brightness.

Here goes.... There's basically a bass "tone stack" curve and a treble one. For each side there is a pot with 12 capacitors and a pot with 12 resistors. VOLUME – makes the output of the circuit louder or quieter. TONE – moves from bass to treble when turned clockwise. Depending on your selection on the 4 rotaries, the results vary! WHITE –R2 high pass filter resistors. RED – C1 high pass filter capacitors. BLUE – R1 low pass filter resistors. GREY – C2 low pass filter capacitors. Given you have a high pass filter and a low pass filter blending together you get a different kind of boost/cut tonally than you would with usual eq pedals giving a hump in different frequency points. It's just a different way of going about eq / tone shaping as most eq pedals don't seem to be filter based. I suppose you'd have to try one to fully "get it" but you can use it to change the tone of your bass quite a lot. So far I've had deep bass flat wound, boxy mid P bass and mid scooped Stingray tones dialled in. I think the cap/resistor values are ones commonly used in fuzz/dirt pedals so ultimately it's for pedal board fun to change the tone of your dirt pedals, hence feed me. There are loads of hi/lo mid cut type settings in the manual to make your current muff sound more like civil war/Rams head etc variants. there's a small library of suggested settings currently but with thousands of possible variations I'm sure users will converge at some Facebook page to share their favourites.

That's one for each hand as you beat some sense into them. Nice bean Keefs got there. Must be photoshopped. Can't imagine he can lift much more than a cigarette.

Selling this spare head case built by MATAMP for a 19" 2u rack preamp Great if you don't like the look of racks and want something a bit more Hiwatt/MATAMP style. I used this for a couple of preamps so they could sit on a standard 24" bass cab. 610mm wide by 270mm high by 290mm deep. £90.00 plus shipping. A half price bargain. The logo badge is removable. The Pearce preamp is not for sale.
