Headphones that (when you're listening to music) let you know someone is behind you... No more sh!tting myself everytime the Mrs brings me a cuppa!
if that's for while you're sitting at your desk, you could try implementing a mirror?

I think you'd be hard to find a hiking bag that doesn't have a hip strap, yet I can't seem to find a DB soft case that does, despite my bass weighing about 10kg. The case that came with my bass is also attached at the top with a pair of metal rings, which just dig into your shoulders, a ridiculously poor design. On top of that, the straps feel like they're attached several too inches too low, so the bass smacks the bag of my legs as I walk (I'm 5' 8''). Does anyone know of a case that's actually ergonomic? If I had the capabilities I would rip the scaffold off an old hiking back and attach it onto the case.

A double bass soft case with a similar frame to a hiking bag would be useful. Carrying 10kg is much better if it's sitting on your hips not shoulders.

singer: Well I think the track that suited your singer best was the clip from One Way or Another. Perhaps throw another Blondie track in there. Otherwise I'd echo the thoughts about your singer. You: One thing I spotted with you was you seemed to spend a lot of time standing in the shadows, behind the PA (from the camera angle at least). To try and improve the bands stage presence, have you tried watching videos of the bands your covering, and look at the ways they hold themselves on stage? Guitarist: Not sure if it would be worth having your guitarist invest in a pedal or two. I think it'd add some element of variation of the guitar tone can change between songs. +1 to him looking bored. On a plus, the instruments were playing well together, so kudos to that.

After misreading this thread title as Ibasneezes, this thread seems disappointingly mundane..

Basses All Gone!!! Advice on newbie please?
ZMech replied to bassatnight's topic in General Discussion
How about a nice rockbass? £150 ONO. I can vouch for the sellers reliability too -
Gerard Smith of TV on the Radio dies at 34
ZMech replied to Dave Vader's topic in General Discussion
Just read about this whilst coincidentally rocking out to the awesome new album. absolutely devastating. -
Can I go for option D: I watch it on iPlayer, so I can skip anyone truly awful, e.g. glasvegas.

didn't the rolling stones start as a covers band? I assumed many amateur bands throw in the odd cover, even in an originals set.

In theory it shouldn't matter if the bass neck isn't verticle, it's fine to sit it in wonky so long as the centre of gravity is safely within the pivot points. It might look unstable, but it'll actually be less so. Disclaimer: I don't have a jazz, I don't know if that is so hard.

I'd agree, the Vintage Trouble were cool. Hugh Laurie was good, but nothing exceptional. At first i thought KD was a dude, and was ultimately dissapointing. Also, those drummers just sounded like a really long intro.

Just had a quick look at The Jazz Piano Book, doesn't look that beginner friendly. I was hoping more for something about basic technique, with some exercises for chords and scales to get me started.
That's quite a bass collection Burrito!
if you think that's bad, check out doctorofthebass's collection, simply wallet wrenching. anyway, welcome to BC, let us know when you next gig around the west country.

The Major's Bass Boot Camp - Session 34
ZMech replied to Major-Minor's topic in Theory and Technique
Nice alternative. I'd never really noticed the sloppiness of the original, but now that it's pointed out it seems glaringly obvious! One question, it may be something you now do subconsciously, but did you work out how to play the vocal line on the bass? Just as quite a few times your bassline joins in or mimics it higher up, which fits quite nicely. My teacher recommended doing so, has been quite interesting, quite cool to see the effect it has, if that is indeed what you're doing. and of course, cheers for taking the time to write that all out! -
I've been trolling through this section picking up tips
I think the word you're looking for is trawling but yes, i'd agree a sticky would be helpful, even if it just has links to already existing newbie topics.

Not a bad idea, although I've gone for a slight compromise. Have written it out on a small strip of paper, which is now stuck down the side of my computer monitor.

going back to basics is interesting. Not quite on such an extreme scale, had my first DB lesson in a while (have been playing for several months), and just got my massive weaknesses pointed out. So this morning I spent half an hour playing purely open strings, was good fun.

Just in case you weren't aware, it's actually posible to make wonderwall sound good! Even one of the gallaghers has admitted that Ryan's version is better than their original.
-
I can't work out if this is meant to be one massive parody of youtube lessons, he seems so serious, yet so rubbish. Anyway, I switch between thinking in terms of frets and notes on my double bass, depends what i'm playing.

I know alembic say they make everyone pay the same amount, partly so that they don't need to pass the costs on to those who buy their products the usual way, and they also feel it says more if the artist has chosen to pay for it over a free instrument. The only bass they've ever given free was a special to Stanley Clarke, to celebrate his 30ish years of using alembics.
-
I'm suprised the slight tonal inconsistencies are audible over a band mix. I just find open strings easier, don't really see any reason to avoid them. On DB they're always welcome as they give your left hand a nice quick rest, whilst also allowing it time to move to the next place. If you were playing over an Ebmaj would you really jump to the 5th fret to play the G?

last song was All Blues. a whopping 4 notes didn't take too long

pretty much any early beatles. Eight days a week is a good 'un.

Well I help run my uni's jazz society, and we've got a massive sub that we just don't need, so we're looking to sell it. I had a quick look last time, and it seems to be a KAM PRO Sub15A. The model seems to be discontinued, but the manual I found online states it's a '2x200W + 350W RMS active sub bass cabinet with integrated additional amplification for satellite speakers'. I think this means the 350W applies to the sub itself with a possible 200W for attached passive speakers. If anyone's interested, I can go to the union and take some pictures. KAM's most similar current model seems to sell for £250, so we'll offer ours for £100 with collection from Bristol only.
