1.
Good decision. From my experience, it's better to work with a beginner who is ultra dedicated to someone talented who can't be arsed.
+1
2.
Sorry to hear the news, but this really is the right decision. The rest of the band sound like a bunch of rank amateurs. Good luck in your search for better things.
Thanks Dude - they are talented amateurs though, it's a shame cos if they actually got off their butts and put a bit of effort in, I think it would actually be something pretty special. Can't see that happening though, hence the fact I've taken my services elsewhere.
3.
Good for you! Well done m8
Thanks - it a bit of a relief to be honest, looking forward to finding the next project.
4. Only problem is now I have to find somwhere to keep my amp - got no bloody room at home
5.
Never understood the lack of commitment thing. Id be raring to go for a band practice practically anytime! Too much fun to miss
I think that's half of the problem, they seemed to be treating it like a chore and din't seem to be enjoying themselves. It was almost like they were relieved every time rehearsal was cancelled cos they didn't have to go. I'd rather go somewhere I can have a laugh and actually get something done.
6. I decided to leave - we were meant to have a practice tonight even though the singer's ill (apparently), but the drummer didn't turn up. No message or anything. So that's it, I've quit and am going to start looking for something else.
7.
Organise a weekly (or twice-weekly) practice session which suits all band members. That way, it will become part of everyone's routine, and no excuses will be accepted! To be honest though - if you feel that your fellow band members are cancelling due to a lack of commitment, there will be frustrating times ahead unless you have a serious conversation regarding the band's future. There are too many great bassists in this world stagnating in under-committed bands.
We already have bi-weekly practices set up around everyones schedule, so to be honest I think it's a combination of lack of commiment and apathy. It seems like they like the idea of being in the band , but it's all a little bit too much effort. It's a shame though, cos when everyone is on form it does sound f**cking amazing.
8.
Concentrate their minds.... refuse to pay your share of the rehearsal money until this problem is sorted out.
That's an idea I like.
9. Problem is if I did try to get them all to sit down together for a chat you can guarantee one of the miserable b**stards would cancel!!
10. My band keep cancelling practices for what seem to be fairly weak reasons. (Like 6 out of 8 have been cancelled). I don't have any problem with the band as such, the music is awesome (IMO), and I get on well with them (ie none of them piss me off too much), but to be honest I am getting a bit pissed with paying for rehearsals that don't happen (we get charged 50 quid a month each regardless of whether we use the space or not). To top things off I had to cancel a gig I'd organised last week as some of the band didn't feel ready to gig the material we've got (maybe if you stopped cancelling rehearsals you'd feel a bit more confident in your ability to play the material!!!) which made me look like a complete w**nker, as the decision to cancel was made only a few days before the gig. I really don't know what to do - on one hand I like playing with the band, but on the other I kinda feel like saying bollox to it, going down to the studio and picking up my gear. What do you guys reckon?
11. I play an EDB700 - and for the price it's brilliant, super low action and sounds great (well sounded great until the pre amp blew up, now it's passive and just sounds good ) - and I think it looks great too. Still love it though, and its shortly to be fitted with a John East pre, which should make it even better than it was before
12. The reviews of these basses on harmony central are f**cking hilarious http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...brand/Tennessee Seriously badly made from the sounds of it - I feel sorry for anyone who has bought one of these.
13. Problem solved - just agreed to buy a John East U-Retro 5 knob deluxe. should do nicely.
14.
You 'twiddle' while playing? I always set up my preferred sound before playing & leave it that way.
Just the mids usually, I like different eq settings for fingerstyle and slap.
15.
+1 for the Sadowsky outboard. I'm using it with my Jazz bass and it's great, amazing full and rich sound. No need to do any wiring and you've got a DI box too .
Doesn't seem to have any adjustment for the mids though, and to be honest I'd rather have something on board as it's easier to adjust while playing.
16. Danny Carey is my favorite drummer ever, closely followed by Jimmy Chamberlain.
17. No worries.
18.
to be honest i think i may sell this to someone who can have more passion to sort it out, i think it wont get played anywere near as much as my stingray even when it is fixed, so if anyone fancies it let me know
How much would you want for it?
19. That looks pretty much exactly what I'm after - Where's the best place to pick these up from?
20. Right - a while ago the active preamp in my Ibanez decided to fry itself, and with funds being quite tight at the time, I replaced it with a passive jazz bass type circuit. It sounds Ok, but nowhere near as good as the active circuit used too. Basically I want to put in a new active eq, but am unsure which one to go for - the Ibanez 3 band one that the bass came with is £70.00 or so for a replacement, which seems quite expensive for what it is ( I am pretty sure I could get something better for this sort of cash). I'm looking to spend a max of £100.00 Any suggestions?
21. This is back up for sale - I want a new bass!!!! I am selling my beloved Ebony Les Paul Studio - it's been well used so the finish isn't perfect it (has the usual gig related scars, but nothing too serious) - it plays perfectly though and sounds amazing. I bought this guitar new in 2001, although from the serial no. it was made in 1999. I will include a Gibson deluxe gig bag as well. I'd be looking for around 400 pounds or a ideally I'd like to swap it for a nice Jazz bass (fretted or fretless) Sorry about the quality of the pics - my camera's broke so I had to use the one on my phone which is rubbish. Cheers Chris
