Nice tone ,saw The Chain bit coming from a mile off Best song she has spoilt by the arrangement -
As you say they could have handled it better but the fact is a lot of the time you can get by without Bass. You're spreading yourself out across bands so its a two way street. If the work isn't enough put it down to experience and move on

Life's priorities, at 20 vs whatever age your are now
jazzmanb replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Always pretty much lived each day.Basic job in my 20s,had a great time with good people every weekend.Didn't have a plan or real ambition I'm the boss now in my 50s with a few quid but feel the same way.Don't get hammered every weekend but do what i like to do and don't think too far ahead -
Good way of looking at it if you didn't like them i suppose .Being a fan i think otherwise, its not like they were banging 3 chord tunes out . The sexy punk rockers were supporting them at their well attended regular gigs.Given how their music developed in a few short years they would have made it regardless of fads.Black and white went to number1 with no title or band name on its cover.A first iirc .That and The Raven were their peak for me ,never really heard a band sound like those albums before or since .Some of Jets drumming on them was way out there .Opinions like Aholes,we've all got one

We have a local Bass Facebook page and the timewasters on there do your head in Guy asks for any P basses, yeah i've got one and its this much.Just whats i'm after ,gets the pics loves it,gets some playing vids, loves it.Week of batting messages how muchwill you take ?!?! .Turns out he's 100 plus miles away and about 50 miles outside the catchment of the local page and he wants money off because of it .I knock £30 off for fuel,i'm asking £125 less than Bass direct want for the same bass second hand ."IT'S TOO MUCH " !!

Be interesting to see how much he tries to emulate the sound of the album or just do the songs I can't listen to Simple minds playing those early tunes with out the great bass riffs of Forbes which were key to them -

I've learnt to just get the main rig in place then wait. Each pub/club is different for space. We have lights to find space for front and rear of band and a lightiong guy needs somehwere to park himself .When i know what space is left i set up the rest,if its too tight my multi fx stays in the bag I used to get ratty when the roadie would step on my stuff as he tried to do his work with my gear in the way so i just wait

Do the best pro-bass players mainly play 4 strings?
jazzmanb replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
In real terms the great bass lines down the years are great because of their composition not difficulty .You could probably play them on 2 strings More than 4 have their place in certain situations but it's just indulgence in most cases and that common bassist condition of wanting to prove you're more than that bloke at the back . Quite enjoying my squier 5 but like my pedals and gizmos it's just fun rather than be necessary -
Agree, you may not get complaints but a good sound gets noticed i've found .Oddly from people like Landladies behind the bar etc
