  1. Don’t they add tension? I hate fiddling with my truss. I’ve heard good things about TI’s
  2. No but once the D’ads have gone off I’ll be getting me some tapewounds! 👍
  3. Thanks for the encouraging replies - I think I made a good decision with this bass! Just some advice needed really. On my GK MB200 (currently my only amp) I have the treble and high mid rolled back to 11, low mid at 1 and bass at 12. Sounds good. Is this a good EQ setting or does anyone have any ideas to get it even more classic P-like? Single cab Barefaced 12”
  4. The boss at work decided it was ‘go to work dressed as one of your favourite possessions’ day. So I did. I am self-employed.
  5. I do like the idea of pumping Bach through a Barefaced.
  6. Indeed! Far too much heft for me. And too many things to fiddle with which distracts me!
  7. £250 no offers. Only had this amp since April, used a few times at rehearsal. While it sounds amazing, it’s just a pain to lug about, has too many knobs and dials and slidey bits, and I prefer the noise I get from my little GK. It’s in pretty good nick. UV lamp still works and has had a good clean inside and out. It is currently with Steve Rowse at Steve’s Amps having a check over but there is nothing wrong that I could notice. Now back from the amp tech and it sounds absolutely amazing. As I thought there was nothing much wrong with it that a good contact clean couldn’t sort out. I played it at a big band gig last night and I was really hoping that I wouldn’t like the tone. Disappointingly, I loved the tone I got from my P bass which put me in two minds as to whether I should sell it, but the weight is just too much for me. I will be sad to see it go. It has a brand new valve in it, an early breakup Electro Harmonix that sounds sweet (pic shows the previous Golden Lion of whatever it was. I still have it if you want it). I really must stress that this is definitely COLLECTION ONLY I’m afraid from Yeovil in Somerset. Delivery or meet within 30 miles ish. Many of the kindest regards.
  8. This is my favourite P tone variation.
  9. I’ve been pitting for 20+ years. It’s a great experience. Once you get known on the circuit, it’s wise to find a good dep as they in turn will return the favour. And always bring your own music stand light!
  10. Now then, I’ve just tried this P through my big heavy Trace and it does sound epic. Disappointingly epic as I’m not looking forward to carting the damn thing around again. So, what are the alternatives? I’m using my little MB200 as my main amp which also sounds fantastic. Do I go for the MB500? I don’t need earthshaking volume. Max budget will be whatever I can sell the AH600SMX for.
  11. iPhone portrait mode being a bit skiffy 😁
  12. Haha fair play. I would love to know how they and other manufacturers go about relicing though, especially the hardware and the checking finish. I know relic’d basses aren’t for everyone but on a Fiesta Red P it just seems somehow right.
  13. Absolutely! My favourite little detail is the fake fag burn on the headstock.
  14. Swapped my Ibby 5er for Steve’s 50s Roadworn P. Really nice guy and had a good chat about how to sneak basses past wives!
  15. Just picked this up today as a swap for my Ibanez Singlecut, a 2014 Mex 50s Roadworn in the best colour. Now, when I’m going through a Fender playing phase, I’m normally a dyed in the wool US made or nothing kind of chap. But this Mex P is, by quite some margin, the best P I have ever played, and I’ve owned, like, 2. A weighty ‘78 and a ‘79. Oh, and a brief but successful affair with a Jap 57RI until GAS got hold for a Jazz. It has everything I want in a P. Fairly hot growly pup, superb action, very light, and that unbeatable combo of Fiesta Red/Maple neck/Gold scratchplate. I’m pleased.
  16. Another of my faves. I do love my Philly Soul!
  17. Bloody lovely. Literally, only a P bass could sound like that.
  18. I just absolutely love that little burpy barp noise about 18 seconds in on the vid I posted. The tiny thumpy ‘pwmp’ of what sounds like breakup at the start of the note. Compression? Slight overdrive? Valvey cream?
  19. So, hopefully pulling the trigger soon on a Sadowsky Satin. To sate my appetite for a new bass until then, I have a 2014 Fiesta Red 50s RW coming tomorrow. And until then, I’d love some examples of great P bass tone. I’ll start with this one. It’s this very track that gave me GAS for a P.
  20. I do most of my listening through Apple Music these days. Although I do own and still buy my favourite artists on CD also. And my favourite favourites I will get on vinyl, which is easy because I’m stuck in the 70s and 80s.
