  1. My local music shop has one of these heads up for sale. What is the general opinion on them? It’s marked at £199
  2. We’ve just got the score for this for my big band. The squelqy effect at the start; it’s probably a synth or something but it could be done on bass. Possibly a bass wah? Doesn’t have to be a perfect replication. Thoughts?
  3. Quite! Class D has its benefits but there is a lack of personality to them. It can’t be just me that’s noticed a small rebellion away from Class D back to Class Heft.
  4. That is in beautiful condition for a ‘98. Tempted to whack my class D head up for sale. In the meantime GLWTS!
  5. I’m not sure how active he is at the moment. I sent him a PM regarding my issue a number of days ago and he hasn’t picked it up yet. I approached D’addario USA on Twitter who must have forwarded my issue to the UK branch as that’s where my new strings came from.
  6. I don’t see what is so special about this set of strings. Isn’t it just a bundled together set of probably already existing string gauges with Steve Harris’ name stamped over the packet? I wonder how much more they charge over the non Steve price. I hate marketing BS. Edit. Ignore my rant. Just saw bartleby’s post regarding differences. Sorry!
  7. Have received my new full pack of stringies from D’addario UK. Over the moon with the service. I’m happy to keep using the 80% D’addario/20% meth cleaned Elixir mix for now. Hate to waste 4 perfectly good strings!
  8. I love the active/passive switch on my recently acquired Ibanez singlecut. I treat the bass almost exclusively as a passive instrument, only using the onboard EQ as a preset to boost the lows and mids with a tiny bit of treble cut for when I favour the bridge pickup.
  9. A fair reasoning indeed. I’ve just always had a real bee in my bonnet in general about rich a$$hats that use money as a bragging right. I don’t have a Ferarri. I have a Fiat 500 and it’s a piece of stinky poo.
  10. Of course, from purely a musical point of view. But I was angling toward the ‘look-at-my-multi-thousand-pound-bass smug face loadsa money’ kind of showing off, which I will probably now get slated for. Deservedly so probably because I’m just a jealous old bstard.
  11. I agree with this lots. There is as much a need for high end basses to exist as tools for their intended purpose to play music as there is for Ferarri, Bugatti or Pagani to exist to take you from A to B. But nobody buys these high end items as a tool. They buy them because they like to show off. IMO.
  12. I’ve been in touch with ‘the Americans’ and they are sending me a new set. For now, I’ve put a meths-cleaned Elixir back on.
  13. My thoughts exactly. @TheGreek which Andy am I looking for?
  14. Excellent thank you! I’ll see if I can find Andy 👍
  15. Got myself a new set of D’ads today and the winding seems to be incomplete on the E. What to do?
  16. I’m off to stick a Fodera logo on my Ibanez singlecut 😂😜
  17. What gripes me about Squiers (other manufacturers do this, but I’ll use Fender as an example) is how they are marketed. To paraphrase, they are purported to be ‘the same great basses with the same great sound, playability and construction quality we have been making in America for years but at a budget price’. If that really is the case, Fender, then you shouldn’t have any problem putting an actual Fender logo on it then. The only indication you should need is a country of origin sticker. Either that or lower the prices of your main line instruments if you are claiming the Squiers are just as good. You are either overcharging for the MIAs or undercharging for the Squiers. It’s all just marketing snobbery to make the player aspire to a ‘real’ Fender. To make myself absolutely clear though, I would have no problem owning a Squier and I have done in the past.
  18. I’d also like to see, and I’ll stand corrected if this is not the case, Marcus Miller putting his money where his mouth is and playing the Sire basses he helped design live at all his gigs.
  19. If my GAS hadn’t led me to the active 5 string through neck then yes I could. I have tired somewhat of the Fender dead spots though.
