1. Could it be a reaction to the type of string metal that's preventing healing?
2. Bloody loved my old 57RI. Hated the dead spot at the 5th fret G string. Regardless, still considering a Limelight.
3. I'm considering a JB Player's to replace my TC BG250 115. It's plenty loud enough, but I find the low end lacks definition and is a little muddy. However, the sound quality increased massively when I raised the amp off the floor. I'm going to experiment with this a little more before I decide on a new combo. I've never touched the toneprint stuff save for a bit of curiosity when I got it. The music I play doesn't call for any effects. Most users of these amps use the SpectraComp exclusively, but I've never really 'got' compressors. I'd be interested to know what you think of the JB Player's combo :-)
4. Hi there, I'm looking to replace my TC BG250 115 with something smaller, as I am recently having to play local am dram stuff in some very tight spaces (I'm talking sat-on-amp, music-stand-in-face kind of tight, and I'd kind of like to be able to sit on a chair!) Budget is tight and I've heard a lot of good things about the Markbass Players School combo. My main gig apart from am dram is a big band (20 of us - trumpets, saxes, a guitarist and drummer that luckily don't seek the limelight with heavy handed playing.) We are very rarely miked up, including drums, and if we are, it's more for distributing the sound at lower volume rather than sheer loudness. I am aware that the Markbass only puts out 150W compared to my TC's 250w. BUT, in the past I have used a 100W GK MB150S for close to 10 years on its own with no volume problems and the musical director is not shy in telling me to turn up or down, so I know he is paying attention to the bass. Granted, I did on occasion have to angle the GK or raise it up, but that's an acceptable compromise for me. The charts we read from (on music stands!) are all arranged so that there is no competing for frequencies, at least from a bass perspective, so I have no concerns on that front - I have my own sonic space. For reference, the EQ on the amp is set flat with the volume and gain slightly under halfway, and the 3EQ on my Stingray is mostly flat, save for the occasional tiny treb/bass boost, and I have a fairly light touch. Question is, will the 150W Markbass (on its own, no ext. cab for the moment) be good enough to replace the 250W TC? Budget is tight, mind, and I'll give you three guesses as to why... Thanks chaps
5.
Perhaps it's on hold?
Only for 3 and a half hours though.
6. Not sure how many have seen this. This is my all time favourite Jaco recording, and there isn't even any bass! http://youtu.be/yBhoDaS5SKQ
7.
Well, definitely could be worse things to get
Indeed. I knew a chap who came down with a nasty case of truss rod.
8.
I like the rack
Well be careful, or you'll end up with the dreaded rack ears syndrome.
9.
Yess!
I am probably in serious trouble now but I do not care because I play jazz.
10. She definitely uses rack mount equipment... ...bye....
11. Is this good for metal? Also, will it play Doom?
12. I'm wondering, am I the only person who's favourite Lynott song is 'Old Town'?
13. Praying this will still be here mid-Feb when I will have special birthday dispensation funds from her indoors.
14. I use the mini hand truck from Thomann. Really well built and a nice long base. http://www.thomann.de/gb/rocknroller.html
15. Another fine transaction with Mike. Purchased a BG250 which arrived well packaged with the carry handle accessible which is very considerate. Excellent amp. Thanks Mike!
16. 10 years ago I bought a good working order GK MB150S combo for £60 from Cash Generator. Used it for years and years.
17. I've had expensive 700W valve stacks, Stingrays, vintage Fenders, Vigiers and all that fluff and I've come to one conclusion that simplicity is best. I think with expensive stuff you'll spend too much time fiddling around trying to get the sound you think you should be able to get just because you've paid so many thousands of pounds. I have a new rule that I will never again own a bass with more knobs than strings. I'm happier than I've ever been with my 77 Squier VM Jazz and soon to arrive 250W TC Electronic combo - all for the very reasonable sum of £350 from this very forum.
18. The Jazz Police. Looks simple but you need all four fingers at all times and any spare ones you can grow. Also, the big band version of Moondance. Terrible arrangement.
19. Oh yes. Talking about selling for a song. I had a backbreaking '78 P bass. Lovely, maple neck, natural ash tone tone monster. Sold it ten years ago for......£400. I think about this everyday and sob.
20. Bought a Squier VM 77 from Mike. Superb condition and excellently packed. A lovely bloke to deal with and extremely patient while I had delays my end. Cheers Mike!
21. Wish I'd kept my first Stingray and Fender Jazz V. Got rid of the Jazz V to get an MTD KZ5. Nothing really wrong with the KZ5, it was just a bit soulless and unremarkable.
22. The best solution for loud guitarists.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/C-K-T3963-160-Cable-Cutter/dp/B00CJ59DHU/ref=zg_bs_1938883031_19
