Fabulous looking beast, especially the fretboard and the signature on the headstock is a nice touch too. I have no doubt that you’ll be enjoying that for many years to come. Out of idle interest, what weight did come in at?

I don’t actually know! I’ll weigh it tomorrow and report back. Watching Sex and the City 2 (guilty pleasure) at the moment with the wife. 🤷‍♀️

Yes I would believe it, I have 2 chambered basses that fit that description (it's mad what luthiers can do and still maintain balance).

Yep, I have a number of basses and guitars that seem to put out the wrong notes, I'm thinking of sending them back to the shop.

I was astounded at the lightness of it. I didn’t get an NYC just to be frivolous and show off (well, a bit) but because I get a bad back, otherwise I might have got a Metro.

  3. Roger must have his reasons, but I’m quite surprised that Sadowsky don’t do 6 string basses, not even as a full-on custom build. I’m not interested in a sixer but I’m sure they’d sell pretty well.

A new Trace Elliot class D of at least 500w with a valve pre.

Bass cabs that are 8/4 ohm switchable.

All active basses legally obliged to have easy access battery compartments a la Stingray.

I'd be a bit worried about the weight of that, it's taking three of them to hold it up and the neck dive looks hideous. 🤣

Would you believe the cardboard packaging actually weighs more than the bass. Lift up the Gator case it came in and you’d genuinely think there wasn’t a bass inside!

Light as it is, it STILL plays the same wrong notes as all my previous basses.

    Who's Pega Fadowsly? 🤣

Damn. Should I not have bought it from AliExpress?

I think I know why my import bill was so much lower than it should have been. The Sadowsky invoice that customs would have looked over was $2000 short! A 1 instead of a 3! Lucky mistake or deliberate middle finger to ‘the Man’?

  6. Thank you for all your likes. Much appreciated.
Quick update. The bass will be with me tomorrow. Here are some numbers to help anyone else out with costings and import duty.
The bass was $3199 USD, shipping was $144 USD. The tax bill, which I received electronically while the FedEx jet is actually still in the air halfway across the Atlantic (flight no. FX36, MD-11F Indiana to Stansted) came to £277 GBP which is a lot less than the £600 GBP that I had somehow arrived at.

Expect pictures of the bass in several pieces soon as the UK handlers inevitably play cricket with it.

  7. Thank you each.

It took me MONTHS to decide on the colour. I very very nearly went for shoreline gold. But I wanted something that hadn’t been used on a satin before, but also something that looks ‘traditional’. As far as I know, this is the only satin in this colour.

    It looks so svelte!

It does! I think the jazz bodies are slightly smaller than normal.

I helped crowdfund a mate's album. For £20 I got not only the pleasure of seeing his little face after recording with Dudley Philips on bass and Martin France on drums, but 1 cd, vinyl LP and download.

    Which was nice!

Perfect Houseplants. One of my all time favourite collection of musicians.

  9. Ultra rare Rickenbacker 4003 in Fireglo. One of only three known to exist and the only one still in playable condition. As we all know, John Hall copyrighted the design so hard that even Rickenbacker themselves were unable to legally manufacture them, and all traceable examples were destroyed.
