1. Ever thought about attaching small castor wheels to the bass and riding the instrument to the second gig, skateboard style!! (Sorry, I've had a couple of "cheeky shandies").
2. Great, friendly, communicative guy. Thoroughly pleasant transaction (Zoom B1 FX).
3. I'll 2nd all the above comments, nice guy, nice bass, and Mrs. Pestie makes a great cup of tea!!
4.
Just one more from the Fab Four Pups...........!
I'd love to see your record collection !!
5.
or this one?
Yeah okay.....good point, there were exceptions!!
6. Interesting responses and I've got to say I agree all of them, particularly the Joe Cocker one!! Love the singing dogs though........classic! Alternatively, I've always preferred the "original" versions of the songs (and there are so many) that Lennon & McCartney just "gave away" such as The Rolling Stones version of "I Wanna Be Your Man"; (gosh, I'm showing my age) Sadly though, it's not just Beatles tunes that are sometimes crucified, many modern classics are butchered too, but as I said at the start, I just thought it would be a subjective but interesting topic.
7. Shure 87B.........recently acquired; a great condenser mike, runs off phantom power supplied by mixing desk and is now my "weapon of choice" for vocals. A little more prone to feedback than my SM58, but the trade off is worth it for pure, vocal clarity. (Post time??.......couldn't sleep, got up for a cup of tea)
8.
Oh sorry i thought you said the best Beatles cover.
Thanks for posting that, never heard it before but it's a gem, soooo funny!!; I thought the thread might throw up a few classics like this, similar to Peter Sellers "Hard Days Night". Personally I don't mind these humorous sorts of covers; I just hate covers what are meant to be serious "alternative" versions but just destroy the songs.
9.
Is this even open to opinion? I thought the question was settled a while back . . . . http://news.bbc.co.u...ent/2995901.stm
'scuse me, didn't even realise there had ever been a poll of worst Beatle covers. As I said, just heard that earlier and thought it might be worth a punt!! Listen to this dreadful desecration of another Lennon McCartney gem..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GptHHB_HJTg
10. Hi, just thought this might be interesting, although of couse, music is very subjective. On my way to a gig tonight, on the radio I heard "Eight Days A Week" recorded years ago by Alma Cogan, possibly the worst cover I've ever heard and I've heard a few Beatles tunes destroyed!! So, what do you think??
11. Yeah, its great being in a "surf" band ! B. Wilson
12.
For gigging I'd prefer to have a back up bass. If I was to cease with gigging then I'd be happy with just one.
+ 1
13. Hi Bertybass, I truly wish you every happiness in playing again after your illness!!! It's guys like you who prove that with a bit of effort and good fortune it is possible to overcome these dreadful issues and enjoy life again. Four years ago, I was treated for throat cancer and thought I'd never sing again but I'm back to playing regularly two or three times a week and am thankful for that. Good 'on ya and the very best of luck with the band!!
14. Hi, Anyone knowledgeable on "Wilkinson" tuners?? Are these the one's fitted to the MIM "Pawn Shop" series as the specs only quote "standard" tuners. I'm familier with Grover, Gotoh and most of the other suspects, but don't know this brand, are they any good?
15. Sorry, the (hard to come by) case is now part of the deal, unless I receive an offer for the bass on it's own; unlikely but possible but I will keep you posted if that happens.

17. "Am I in the wrong ballpark"? bump.
18. Hi, for sale is my recently acquired (from new) Fender "Pawn Shop" Mustang bass. As new, selling as it is un-played in favour of my new Gibson EB 2013. The bridge saddles 1 & 2 have been modified by a local luthier (see image), as strings 1 & 2 were slightly out of line with the pickup pole pieces and with the fingerboard; these are now perfect, as is the setup and intonation. The bass has also been fitted with a hand crafted tortoiseshell pick guard (my preference), but the original pearloid pick guard will be supplied or can re-fitted before dispatch if preferred; (either way, the "spare" will be supplied). The above price also includes an original Fender hard case, (NOT supplied as standard with this bass when bought new). These cases are both rare and costly, as they are specific to the short scale Mustang model. The case is in excellent condition, all the locks, catches & hinges work perfectly. The original soft gig bag is also included in the sale as will be a spare set of D'Addario Chromes. Bass on it's own with original gig bag - £550 or with hard case & strings £600 (negotiable) I would interested in a trade (cash my way) for a long scale beater bass, ("Modern Player" Telecaster) or similar etc. Carriage would be around £25 or I would be prepared to deliver or meet at a reasonable distance. Call Brian on 07852 190333 for more details
19.
============================================================================ Additionally, a standalone frontperson (ie not an instrumentalist) will have a PA system suitable for the task. Why? It’s the amplifier for your instrument, dummy…Not exceeding 600W/side, and not complex.
Assuming anyone is a "dummy" won't endear you to many would be applicants anyway matey. Try doing solo gigs, I think that's possibly your best bet!!

21. bump it
22. I've just got one of these basses after yoyo'ing between short & long scale and deciding long scale was the way I wanted go. Here are my thoughts...... When I first opened the case, I must say, I was a bit "underwhelmed" and disappointed; the wood grain has not been filled and the finish looked a bit cheap, but I must say, it "grows" on you pretty quick, its another of those quirky, unique Gibson type things; and now I love it!! Also, they have carved a volute at the weak spot, near the top of the neck; good move, as I know Gibsons are a bit prone to neck fractures; (luckily, I've never had that problem)! When I first picked it up, I was stunned how light it was compared to my Mustang, and doing the "bathroom scale" test it comes in a full 1.25 lbs. lighter, so now I have a solid, lightweight, long scale bass that suits me perfectly. The set up was bob on (for me), neck relief, string height and intonation, all absolutely perfect and the neck has a lovely profile and is a joy to play. Plugged it in to my TC electronic BG250 combo (1 x 15), and nearly demolished the house..... jaw dropping low end Then I set about discovering all the possibilities from there upwards and the range of sounds available on this bass seem endless, mixing and matching the two humbucker pickups with the coil tap switching volume pots, plus the tone control too, seem to give all the sounds one could possibly want or need; truly superb! I am going to re-string it with my own favourites (D'Addario Chrome Flatwounds), but that's just my personal choice, the bass is just amazing as it is, straight out of the box and absolutely incredible value for money!! So, I re-strung it with the D'Addario chromes, gigged it twice this weekend.............absolutely sooooooperb!!
23. So I contacted Neutrik, who concurred that they did have an issue with a faulty batch of these 90º "silent" jacks some time ago. I sent them the two of mine that were dodgy and they sent me back (by return), four of the new upgraded ones. Gud on ya Neutrik, 10/10 for customer service!!
24. Offers ??? bump!
25. Hi, I have very reluctantly decided to sell my Gibson short scale SG bass, as it remains un-played recently. This is a cherry red, SG standard bass, NOT the cheaper "faded" version. The bass has been upgraded with the Hipshot Supertone Bridge for much improved sustain and perfect intonation, and a Graphite nut for perfect smooth tuning. The bridge is made as a direct replacement and therefore there have been no "modifications" made to the instrument and the original 3 point Gibson bridge (supplied), can easily be re-fitted, should the buyer wish to revert to the original "vintage" characteristics! A thumb rest has also been fitted, placed midway between both pickups on bass side (see photo.. 2 slight blemishes where it has been moved). 2007, in excellent condition and in original Gibson fitted case (also in good condition, all locks & catches in working order!!:
