But this 2004 has open back http://www.chicagomu...s-sunburst-2004 Saying that the truss rod on this looks like its at the headstock? I'm getting confused now!

It looks like there's something going on around the neckplate? It looks like a high mass bridge but still hard to tell. The serial is correct according to guitardaterproject. The decal is like the one on this http://www.musiccitypickers.com/2003-or-2004-fender-usa-standard-precision-bass-sold/ The tuners are different though. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but I'm sure one will be along shortly!

Thats a lot of money for an Old School Blazer! -
Final drop With a heavy heart this is up for sale. I got it on BC from Rayman (only a few months ago). I can honestly say it is one of the best sounding and playing bass I have ever owned. I usually use Precision/Jazz but wouldn't hesitate to take this out as a first choice. Lovely neck and low action, good balance. Its in really good condition with only a couple of small cosmetic issues (tried to photo). It also comes with a nice hard Gator case (with keys!). The case has some marks etc but its in overall good condition and has done its job well. This should really be a 'keeper' but its up for sale as its a little too heavy for me now (4.5k). Its a shade under 40mm at the nut and 64 at the heel. Rayman will know more about it but its one of the early models (2004) that are far superior to the ones that can be bought today. It truly is a great bass for the money. Raymans original thread (hope you dont mind Rayman) with a couple more pics of Rayman and the bass in action! I dont know if it makes a difference but I registered at bassstringsonline (free) and the prices below are what I have just been quoted. I ordered a set of vi strings recently and there was no import charge either. 4 string low tension sets from bassstringsonline.com (which you get directed to from La Bella) are $44.95 and $12 shipping = $56.95 a quick conversion on google says that comes to £33.76. 5 string sets are $59.95 plus $12 shipping. $71.95 in pounds should come to around £42.65. http://www.bassstringsonline.com/Low-Tension-Flexible-Flats_c_1501.html Hope this helps...

Why would someone want do this to a 74 Precision?
I can't see the problem with it, I can't see a 74 Precision having any great future value unless it is in exceptional condition, I am currently trying to shift a 79 Precision on Evilbay, it is not an exceptional bass just another old Precision, despite it being offered way cheaper than anything else of that vintage I have had absolutely no sensible interest in it....I doubt it would decrease the value if I had it refinished in some modernist colour scheme. I think there are the golden years of the Precision which will always go up in value and then there are just Precisions, yes a mint 70's example may have some value but a run of the mill 70's Precision seems to be worth less than a current new example...which to be fair is probably the better instrument
If its the Oly white with white plate, I nearly bid on that! I see the starting price has now gone up a bit...? To be honest if I had known at the time it was a BCer I probably would have done but there's that many conmen on ebay it put me off. -
You can just imagine Arnie reading out the description! I think his sales patter may well ensure that nobody will ever buy it! Breadcrumbs? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Soviet-Vintage-Electric-Guitar-AELITA-230-BL-USSR-/171314682154?pt=Guitar&hash=item27e326992a

I quite fancy these. I stopped using flats as they always felt a bit tight for me. Recently I got a Silver Series Jazz with flats on and I really like the sound but they still feel a bit that way. Just had a look on their site and they work out at £34.00 ish delivered from the good old USA. I think I might give them a go...

I suppose it only needs another neck and body and it would be as good as new! -

Hang on a minute. Would this be suitable for someone with small hands? -
Studio Lord dating from around 1980 (give or take a couple). Tobacco burst. Superb guitar. Very much like a vintage Gibson Les Paul in feel and sound. A friend of mine has a Yamaha SG2000 from the same era and this sounds very similar to me. Theres several dinks and scrapes but nothing too bad for a well gigged guitar thats 30+. Its not the prettiest but its never let the band down. One fret may need a gentle tap on the very edge (top E) as I can feel an edge. I would do it myself but I'm a bit of a DIY disaster with a hammer. On the pics theres some smears that are polish. I'm also a disaster at polishing too it seems. Only thinking of selling as its getting less and less use. May be interested in a trade against a Japanese/USA Precision or Jazz or possibly a bass cab. Cash is good though. It would be hard to get any guitar of this quality for the price. Great first choice guitar or would make a top spare to a Gibson.
