  1. Wow, the heritage status makes real sense now! It is complete nonsense after all! Should this be an indicator that punk music will get a similar status soon? Oh, maybe the new romantic 80's music too? Oh, forgot about rock n roll and blues and classical and ancient Greek stuff they've just solved the mystery of. Just about anyone who has picked up a washboard without a shirt to clean and played it badly should be eligible for protected status at some point then? It's not really as if reggae music is in danger of dying out is it? Reasons for protected status are at best "barmy" Call me cynical but it looks to me like somebody somewhere is trying and probably going to make a lot of money from this. In a few decades we'll have - Now That's What I call Protected Music 20 at the top of the album charts then! 😂
  2. If this is a similar weight to mine, it would be great for someone with a bad back. Haven't actually weighed mine but it weighs considerably less than my JV which is 8 1/2lb. I'd guess around 7 1/2lb.
  3. Nice one chaps. I couldn't see why it wouldn't work. After looking through numerous FRFR threads on different sites, nobody has really mentioned using it. It may have been mentioned in the FRFR thread here but it's enormous! It seems a good (and costless) way around DI's and mic's which i have seen mentioned quite a lot. 😀
  4. Aye, I've got the software and only have it set on 10. They just seem to come on with a bump unless everything else is turned on with levels down first.
  5. Sorry I was a bit vague. Bass to Ampeg SCR. 2 lines out of SCR, one straight to small mixer, one to effects then to small mixer. It then goes from the small mixer to an Rcf or BF that I use as a monitor. Now, for both signals to go to front of house I've been using the DI out of the SCR for straight bass and a line from the effects. It works perfectly well but was wondering if, the signal that comes from the RCF link output is at line level? If it was suitable, this would have both signals combined and so only one FOH channel would be used. Or, I could effectively use the link as a sort of DI? No need for a conventional DI or to mic an FRFR setup perhaps? Thanks for the replies chaps 😁
  6. Thank goodness! I'll be able to sleep tonight! Well done, somebody is going to be very pleased!
  7. Just wondering if the cab link out on a BF800 or RCF 745 etc could be used as a DI? I've been using the DI out from an Ampeg SCR-DI to the PA for a straight bass sound but also use a mixer to blend a separate signal for effects, which when combined uses 2 channels on the desk. Is there any reason I couldn't use the RCF etc, link facility as a line level signal to the PA? Hence, only using one channel to the FOH desk? Hope this makes sense!
  8. I've been using an Ampeg scr-di through a Barefaced FR800 to great effect. All I've found that is necessary, is to make sure the Ampeg is switched on with the level down before powering up the BF. The BF has no volume control and so is on full whack all the time. Same applies when using the Behringer BD or any preamp really, Phenomenal with an RCF 745 too!
  9. It changes how the amp "sees" the ohm load. Two cabs both with 8 ohm loads would normally become a 4 ohm load but with the use of the serialiser it remains at 16ohm (corrected!). 😁
  10. This gentleman is after one of these I believe - https://www.basschat.co.uk/profile/22424-christopherbassmay/
  11. Maybe we are all getting older and so becoming miserable bastards 😂 Speak for yourselves but I know I am!
  12. No no no! My dream combo always turns up when I'm skint and already have great gear!
  13. Thank goodness for that. Phew! Great head and a temptress indeed.
  14. Don't stress too much about it, that will only hinder your learning. Learn what you can in the time you have got, what you can't improvise! Many originals bands do just that live onstage. I've found that listening to a track (whilst not playing along) is good for me, I actually listen to it and get a feel, rather than wonder where my fingers etc are going next. Takes some effort 'not' to pick the bass up though! Good Luck.
  15. This would really solve my spare bass problem but alas a bad case of slippery clutch has scuppered all plans of purchases for a while. Bastard Peugeots... Anything you may be interested in trade wise?
  16. If anyone wants a class combo, that can give any gear out there a run for it's money, this is it. £1600+ when new and worth every penny. What else in that realm can be bought for £350? It's a no brainer and criminally cheap!
  17. Karl, please stop selling white Fenders. It really makes me want to spend other folks cash!
  18. Quite right in what you say. My Macbook is a similar spec (need the 16gb upgrade soon though) and it's great. I often wonder how long an older Mac without support would last most of us for Logic, if we used it to it's full potential? I'm no pro and using Logic 10.4. I couldn't operate Logic 8 to it's potential before I moved to 9 etc etc. If I thought of my Macbook as a tool to use Logic for a specific task, mostly, I think I could probably get away with a 2009 unibody, core 2 duo with 4 gig ram. Most recording I do is basic and lets face it, many a good old tune was knocked up on an old Atari! I suppose it all depends on how intensive the machine is to be used.
  19. Bear in mind that newer Mac's aren't hardware upgradeable (not sure if that is 100% true for the whole range but suspect it is). You would need to be sure that what you can afford will do exactly what you want it to do as, there's little scope to add later. I'm not really one for buying Mac's new and so I'd look for the last model in your chosen format that is still upgradeable. I've had an iMac and a mini and now running a Macbook Pro. All are great machines but moved to Macbook for the portability. The more ram the merrier really. Logic is a great piece of kit as is Mainstage. 2 screens is a good idea too.
  20. Don't go buying anything tonight then! 😂
  21. I set off home yesterday with enough cash to make a reasonable offer for this. "Life" attacked me several times en route and I was skint by the time I eventually got home! Hopefully, finances will improve soon enough!
  22. How many cymbals does a drummer need? Hats, crash and a ride, that's the job done. Use basic tools until you feel you can afford, justify or even need more. Decent cymbals can be bought quite cheaply now and even economy brands are certainly better than they were in the past or at least better than no cymbals at all. He has to hire cymbals in? What's all that about? I've never heard of such goings on. This would not happen in any Northern town. Sounds like a load of old bollox to me. He may have delusions of grandeur! They usually have. 🥁 Maybe the singer is delusional about being a singer too if he can't remember his own lyrics after that length of time. That would be about 8 months since you started the project? If he can't remember them by now, he is either not cut out to be a singer, the songs could be too long and/or full of pretentious philosophical nonsense that no-one but he can understand anyway or, he is a goldfish. Seriously though, it sounds like they are scared to me. Well, maybe the drummers doing a drummer thing and trying not to let the girlfriend know that he needs to actually buy something for a change! 😂 Good advice in above posts though. Book a gig, get a target and you will hopefully find that the rest will get themselves together. If they don't, you have the answer to your OP.
