  1. La Bella website offers custom sets. Just choose what string guages you want really. Shipped from the USA cost around £21 and they arrived within a week.
  2. Been back tonight. It's an ABM Magnifier head and an ABM 8X10 cab in Studio 3 and it sounds marvellous. GAS is back...
  3. Tiny music room? They look marvellous Karl. Get em int livin room lad 😀
  4. To be honest, I'm not convinced it's a Thunder II at all. I didn't think that any of the Thunder 2 or 3 were bolt on neck? I think it's either a Thunder 1a fretless or some sort of a Thunder Jet project or maybe a hybrid of the 2 and an old raft found on the canal.
  5. It's what's under that intriguing scratch plate that bothers me. Routing may well have been done with a sharp spoon and a shovel and then there's the two cracks that look to be have been caused by the bridge screws being hammered in. I know it's cheap but even if it's a complete lemon it would never make an ornament either. 😂

  7. Westone Thunder 2 and 3 series have fretless models in the range. Fabulous basses too. BC'er Roger2611 has one I believe. Models - http://www.westone.info/indexthunderbass.html
  8. Our setup is a lot like yours (live drums though)but we only use a pair of Barefaced FR800's FOH. The BF are great sounding, small and lightweight and can do a venue (with the whole band through them) of about 100-150 folk (depending on the volume and bottom end you require you of course). The bass sucks a lot of power from them though and so we are also looking for a bit more out front but do not want subs (don't really like the over wooly sound that lots of bands prefer today). So, we're adding a pair of RCF 745a's in the hope that, at larger gigs we can use all 4 FOH, smaller gigs RCF's as the main PA and the BF as monitors (or vice versa). I'm hoping the RCF's will do the FOH job on their own to be honest. Lots of folk like them on here and say they are easily capable of taking a whole live band. Don't get me wrong, the BF can do that but they can run out of steam if the music you play is loud (our engineer likes loud ). In your position, I can only think of getting a larger sub and selling the existing one or replacing your your tops with something like the BF's or 745's. Maybe you could ditch your sub too? I'll have a better idea of how the RCF's perform as soon as we get them to a gig.
  9. Ha! Small world! Studio 2 we were in but think we'll definitely opt for Studio 3 next time. I don't know what I'll do if the bass rig rounds as good as what's going on in my head 😂 What band are you in, if you don't mind me asking?
  10. Nice one. Being so near to the train and bus stations makes it ideal for travellers. In a few outfits at the mo. On Parole Clash band thing, 3 MenGone Mad (just reformed) and Boredom (long standing local band). Haven't managed to get Boredom to Cathedral yet but I'm sure once they've been there, they won't want to return to their attic!
  11. Unfortunately, GAS and regret are unavoidably intertwined! 😂 You are right though, the place is a gem! If you don't mind me asking, who do you play for? Being what seems a local lad and all that...
  12. Bought a Squier VM Precision body and neck from here for cheap. Had tuners and guard too. Put some unknown pickups and a loom in it and it's superb. Become number one bass in one band. Altogether cost around £100. If you are capable of putting one together, it's worth thinking about. Think I was very lucky with that one but on your budget I'd definitely look at second hand. Squier Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified series both are great value for the money. Secondhand bass, pro setup and you are away with money to spare! If you need any advice on building / buying you have definitely found the right place! Maybe try putting an ad in the wanted section on here before buying new and see what happens? Good luck with the search.
  13. We've found a great rehearsal room (Cathedral Studios) in Blackburn, Lancs. Now that is a rare thing around these parts indeed. It's central with parking, great PA's, drum kits, guitar and bass stacks included in the price in each room. More than a fair price, clean, tidy, brewing up tackle, the works. I've rehearsed there with a few bands and every member of those wouldn't go anywhere else now. Went there last night and had a bit of a chat with Pete (nice guy) who runs it and he showed us round the newest room that has been built. In there is an Ashdown RM head (I think it's a RM) and an 8x10 Ashdown cab. One look and I got instant GAS? 😉 Why oh why? I didn't even try it out! Awesome thoughts popped immediately into my head! For years I've made it my mission in life to minimise gear (bad back etc). In ears or 1x10 combo for onstage monitoring. Lightweight Barefaced, RCF PA that will handle any bass scenario. I've already got everything (ish) I'll ever need and this evening I find myself looking at 8x10's!!! What the fek! I'll need a plumber to sort me out if I lift one of them! I'm even having thoughts on how I can persuade Mrs itsmedunc to sell the car and get a van! It's spiralling out of control!
  14. Matt bought some tuners from me. Instant payment and a nice guy to deal with. Have no fears, deal with confidence. Thanks again Matt. Cheers Dunc
  15. Would somebody please buy this fekin amp before I crumble.
  16. Initially, I was going to say that looks how Mrs itsmedunc would play bass but after seeing the other pictures, I'm not sure which one looks more apt! 😂
  17. Just read the description for all his other items for sale. It's a good read. If anyone has any uncertainties, all will be revealed. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/mdphillips1956mark/m.html?item=192616601936&hash=item2cd8d81950%3Ag%3AndcAAOSwqDhbKWzF&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
  18. In the interest of science. To boldly go...
  19. Think mine will be at least 6 years old now. I've had the bass about that long and didn't change them when I got it secondhand. They sound great live with a bit of drive but to be honest, they won't cut it anymore for recording. Just decided yesterday that perhaps it's time to change them. May try boiling them first before putting new ones on though. I might get them back to how they sounded 3 years ago!
  20. Can't listen to the song without being reduced to tears! Love it! That's really not like me either! 😭 You may suspect I'm listening to him again!
