I don't know if it's been mentioned in the thread but The Stranglers had all their gear nicked whilst playing in the states. That sort of coincided with a bit of a change if direction. I'm sure there was some sort of talk about the theft being some sort of divine intervention and the theft was "meant to be". That's perhaps why JJ's sound changed and the band mellowed...
That's more gorgeous than a gorgeous thing, seriously can't beat a bit of Matsumoku neckthrough stripey goodness. I think it's a 1984, from the serial number, I'm actually somewhat relieved it's not the 2xP pickup variant (think those were Thunder IIs though) because I don't have to buy it get in even more trouble... GLWTS! Jon.
Cheers Jon, one of the best basses I've ever owned. The other is my JV. Had them both up for sale? There's something seriously wrong with me! Had the sense to withdraw the JV though!
I've seen your JV up for sale on here Dunc! Nice! The Eden stuff too. I love this P bass but I cant let the chance to buy back an old friend pass me by.
Had to withdraw the JV. In the end I couldn't do it! If your old Is that good it would be rude not to get it back, given the opportunity! The Eden stuff is great but I'm quite happy with the Berg and a lovely little Purple Chilli 112 addon! If you have noticed the Eden has gone down in price to £485.00! -

Ibanez Artstar Semi. Made in Korea. 30.3 inch 22 fret short scale. Nice condition but has the odd scratch and ding. I've tried to photograph them but as usual they either dont show up or look worse than they are Plays well, sounds nice. It's had the switch rewired and an extra control fitted to blend the pups rather than switch over. Which is a nice little function. Strung with roundwounds. Comes with a black hard case. Selling as I'd rather have a double cutaway. Shipping fully insured to UK address would be £21.90 or you can collect from Blackburn Lancs/arrange your own courier. Meet up may be possible too.
Hello mate. You obviously love this bass (it certainly is a beauty!!) so why not get out there and gig it? Scratches/dings/chips; it's all part of the journey. Life is short my friend, you may not find another bass you like to play as much as this. Get out there and play it and love playing it. It's what it's meant to do, to be played. Superficial damage is unavoidable but it doesn't really matter; at least it will still sound amazing :-) Sorry, I'll shut up now :-) If I had the spare cash, I'd buy it off you and gig it myself. Anyway, good luck whatever happens. Lovely bass! ;-)
You are right! I totally agree! I've never been like this with any other bass, even a 73 Jazz I had. It's not so much me who isn't careful with it, it's the rhythm guitarist! Lovely bloke but he is the clumsiest man ever. He once poured a cup of coffee into a flask cup (with a rounded bottom) and it tipped up and spilled into the controls of my amp! Then he accidentally snapped the controls off! He's always bumping into everyone with the headstock of his guitar as he's a leftie. He makes me paranoid! Perhaps he should be banished to right of stage where he cant do any damage I'm very dubious about parting with the JV and so probably I shouldn't do it until I was sure.. You may well have swayed me to keep her! -

A load of leads that have been lying in a box for years. I haven't got time to check them so please bear that in mind. 3 decent jack to speakon, one is quite long approx 20ft, the others approx 10ft A few decent guitar leads - one very long. A couple of guitar tuners, ones a Boss (cant find the back but it may be in the box) 3 guitar straps The longest kettle lead ever. Phono leads, power cables, Alesis midiverb 3 power supply... A box full of allsorts. The long speakon or the guitar lead are worth more than what I'm asking. Just want rid. Postage is £12.90 or you can collect/arrange your own courier...

Withdrawn. Thanks to everybody for the interest shown but I've decided to keep her. I know I'll regret it if she leaves... Not 100% about selling this bass at all. Its an absolute pleasure to play and sounds fantastic. It's by far the best bass I've ever owned but the condition is that good, I'm scared of gigging with it! It's a testimony to it's previous owners. I'd much rather have a workhorse and sell this on to someone who is a lot more careful! I'll have to have another scour but I can only find one tiny tiny ding. Correction - I have found another tiny tiny ding. It's all original apart from the scratchplate which had already been replaced when I bought it. It had a white w/b/w one on (made by the Bass Doc) and I've since fitted a genuine black Fender guard. All the holes lined up apart from one but is only slightly off. Both will be included. I'm not sure of the weight but its not heavy and ideal for long sets. Would be interested in trades for another P (USA Jap), medium scale (would be ideal but not necessary) plus cash adjustment. I also may be interested in a Mexican Classic Series in red with maple neck. I have no hard case but can pack securely. I have to point out that I cannot send it insured if its not sent in a hard case and so, do not want to be held responsible for any damage in transit. I would prefer you to arrange your own courier if its sent with no case. It can be collected from Blackburn Lancs (preferred), could possibly meet up (depending on distance) or you could send me your case and I will send it back to you in that. Cost fully insured would be £21.90 or you could arrange your own. I'll get some better photos up tomorrow...

I have found a black hard case to ship the bass in. I will now include this and postage in the sale. It's one of the older guitar shaped ones. I've amended the shipping details accordingly. Trades welcome - deally (but not essential) would like to trade for a short or medium scale bass - Rivoli, Precision, Jazz, Musicmaster, etc but try me with anything. I dont really want to add any cash to a deal but would take a bass of lesser value and cash. Well, I didn't think I'd ever sell or trade this but I've got a Thunder 2 as well and that does the same job. I also now prefer the 32 scale of the Thunder 2 and so this is not getting the play time it deserves. Great quality bass, lovely to play, slim Jazz like neck. It's active and passive but I've never used the active as I prefer the passive tone. It has a couple of dings that I've tried to show on the photographs. It may need some new strings depending on your preference. I'm not sure of the exact date but production started in 1983 and lasted a couple of years. Link to Westone catalogue - http://www.westonegu...basses/thunder/ It can be collected from Blackburn Lancs (preferred), could possibly meet up. Cost posted fully insured would be £21.90 or you could arrange your own courier. Matsumoku Specs

Body is solid Canadian ash, with a through-body heelless neck which is a laminate of maple and walnut
24 frets
ebony fingerboard with snowflake inlay position markers
P/J style pickups with 3-way selector switch
Phase reverse, 'dual tone' (Series/parallel) and active tone switches
Volume, active and passive tone controls
Brass nut, saddles and bridge
anodised aluminium brass effect backplates

Well now I'm not so sure about the logo. Did Fender use the black decal at this time? I have a slight suspicion that the early 1983 logo was silver rather than black? Got me going now!
Black decal E series 83 P here - http://classicandcoo...siennaburst.htm Black decal, same tuners, 3 screw bridge and trussrod access at the head...

Bad eyes but it looks like only 3 bridge holes on this one too - http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=71882

The Guitar dater says the serial is USA 82/85 and Japanese 84/87? There's a bit about that here - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/175949-help-valuation-on-an-old-mij-p-bass/ so that sort of explains that but identical serials I'm not too sure about. The neckplate looks ok - http://support.fender.com/manuals/instruments/Standard_Precision_and_Jazz_Basses_%281983%29_manual.pdf The manual also shows truss rod adjustment at the head. I thought at first the shape of the head under the 'Precision" looked a bit weird but this looks very very similar - http://www.vintagecustomguitars.com/Vintage-1983-Fender-Precision-Bass-Loaded-American-Made-P-Bass-Neck--for-sale_1125.html It's only got 3 screw bridge and I'm not sure if those tuners were used then though?
I don't understand what that is. My eyes can see it but my brain doesn't get it.
IT IS OBVIOUSLY AN ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY THAT ANY ORDINARY HUMAN BEING EQUIPPED WITH A NORMAL BRAIN CANNOT COMPREHEND AS YET AS WE HAVE NOT EVOLVED TO THE SAME LEVEL AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITY OF THE ADVANCED LUTHIERY SKILLS OF THIS GENIUS.

I'd rather get 2 cases of Bud for the same price. I can still just about open them with my teeth!

Just traded cabs with Kev. Cab exactly as he described it and it sounds as good as it looks. He went out of his way to come here. Hope the journey back was OK Kev! Hail, rain and snow! A while back he also bought a Westone bass from me. That was a good transaction too. Nice genuine bloke. Deal with confidence. Cheers Kev Dunc
