1. Ok we run a Beatles tribute band. We play all over the uk at different venues. Most, like theatres, have in house pa. Others don’t, like weddings or village halls, so we use our own pa. its a pretty standard setup. Mackie tops, a sub and a mixer. time for an upgrade maybe. question is, would a column pa be any good? Would one do what our pa does? Playing rooms for 100-200 people. i like the idea of them being easier to handle, store and load. any thoughts or suggestions? Cheers
2. Is a specific type of Di box required? Or does a normal Passive one work?
3. Ok, might be a very basic question. did a gig once and normally the Soundman plugs straight into the Di out on my bass amp. on this occasion however, I’m sure I plugged my bass into his Di box and then a lead went to my amp from it and a lead went off to his pa from it. is that a thing? What type of Di box is that?
4. I’ve got a Kay, it’s a project. One project too many tho, might be going!!!...
5. Any recommendations for a child to learn on?
6. Any one done one? Fairly obvious that they need better components and a full fret dress etc etc But on YouTube some have done lovely builds
7. What’s the best (cheapest) option people are using?
8. Quick refresher needed. If my amp is requesting an 8 ohm minimum speaker, what are the options? Iirc there’s a formula, 2 x 16 ohm in series would also work etc that’s probably wrong but you get my drift
9. Are there any decent guitar shops here? I found red dog today but I really prefer back street shops with unusual second hand gear.
10.
I'll post my Ricks another day!
Now you're talking!
11. The Rick 4001 just out of shot?
12. Thanks
13. Thanks Was trying to get away from a square one
14. Or do they fit in a precision case? If so I've got options
15. Does anyone make a shaped case for a ric? I hate lugging around the big suitcase they supply
16. Managed it. Fitted a 90 degree nutrik jack from maplin One wire had broken off when the jack got bent. Unsoldered the other 2, then soldered all 3 onto the new jack, Bingo
17. Even with flat cable?
18. My son has bent and broken the 3.5 mm jack on his brand new headphones. I want to fit a new jack for him but they have "flat cable" Are solder able jacks available for flat cable? Has anyone done this? Cheers
19. Thanks chaps
20. That sounds a good way to try also. I'm just gonna have to wait until that lead arrives.
21. Understood. Thanks for the advice. Once I find a funky jack to male xlr cable then we'll give it a go
22. Thanks all. We'll try the simple set up that dad suggests at tomorrow's gig and see how we get on. I was a little reluctant to put bass and drums through our 2 x 12's as we asked the chap who built them to make them specifically for vocals and to suit our mixer. They've got 2 eminence 12's in each so I'm sure they won't be damaged by a little bass and kick.
23. Thanks all. It's beginning to make sense. Why would mon1 level for the kick need to be zero? This might be a stupid question but how will I leave the kick out of the mon2 mix (to the sub) And similarly, how will I mix only a little bit of bass into the top speakers, with most going in the sub?
24. The sub has a hi pass filter switch, does this come into play?
25. Thanks for all this. I'm assuming 2 mixes is the best way to go but I'm no expert. The manual for the sub says, connect 2 xlrs from the main out puts on the mixer to the sub inputs. Then connect the passive (or active) speakers to the outputs on the sub. This wouldn't use the speaker outputs on the mixer at all? Would this by default limit the amount of bass going to the more delicate top speakers?
