  1. I've got a Roland Cube 100w. It's served me very well in that kind of situation for years. If you're near Derby you're very welcome to come and give it a try.
  2. Superb, as always, Andy. See you tomorrow at the pub. 👍
  3. What a fortunate lady Jane is. In my family you might get a new jumper commissioned; if you're lucky.
  4. I've got a couple of double bags. A Ritter and a Gator. If you're around Derby you're very welcome to come and have a look.
  5. I'd echo all the positive things said so far. There's no need to stop if you've still got the itch that needs to be scratched. I've just started a new band project at the age of 59. It's a recording-only band at the moment but busy and great fun. I did have to make the effort to go to a local pub's jam night at talk to people though! Not everyone is comfy with that I know. Where you live probably makes a difference too. I'm in the East Mids M1 corridor. Loads of towns, villages, big cities nearby and (relatively) good transport links. Don't give up! Good luck.
  6. I'd love to do that (once at least). The opportunity hasn't come up yet, but I'm only 59. ☺
  7. If you want to buy new and have a budget I can recommend looking at yamahas. I've been very happy with my TRB5
  8. Personally, I reckon thinking in these terms just opens the door to a musical career of anxiety and micro-stress. I just accept that I can be better, always will be, and I'm working on it! To the OP, I've been through the redundancy programme scene twice. In two different careers. My experience is that who goes and who stays doesn't seem to have much to do with ability at the job.
  9. This is a very interesting case and could set an important precedent. If the courts find in favour of the family the implications for promoters of live music could be massive.
  10. Well, they might do now. But I think we can be certain that many times in their earlier career the outcome would have been different.
  11. I was in a similar position with a guitar combo I wasn't using. I gave it to a nearby pub who run a regular open mic that is particularly welcoming to newbies.
  12. It's looking beautiful Andy. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing it 'in action'. 😄
  13. Lots of you who are in the big cities sound like you can manage to gig without a car. Good luck to you, how many of us would put up with the drag of car ownership unless we had to? It seems that if you're living and/or gigging out in the 'provinces' it's almost a non-starter. I've seriously attempted to do gigs using buses or trains but I'm usually stuffed because the last one home is 11.00pm at the latest. Of course, that's only gigs where I'm not responsible for some PA or lights anyway.
  14. I saw the Eric Bell band at The Flowerpot in Derby very soon after NR died. Eric dedicated a song to him and made a little speech. He obviously had real affection and respect for the guy.
  15. Many's the time I've thought my sound was pants but people in the audience have said it was fine, or even good! So, I've become very cautious about judging how things sound 'out there' when I'm right on top of my rig. My suggestion is to get one or more person you trust and get them to give you an opinion about how you sound from the audience.
  16. In Different Every Time, the biography of Robert Wyatt, he talks about the time Soft Machine toured America with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He says some interesting things in general about Hendrix and is complementary about Redding's role in keeping everything together during performances.
  17. Go on, give her a real treat and bring her along. Having missed last year's I'm looking forward to this one.
  18. Over-loud kick drum. There's a venue local to me where the sound man ruins pretty much every act because of this.
  19. Hi Frank, it fascinates me too. I can recommend 'Albion' by Peter Ackroyd. A study of the English point-of-view through history. Apparently, the first recorded writing by someone who could be called English, a monk called Gildas, was along the lines of 'things ain't so good as when the Romans were here '. 😂😂
  20. There seems to be a strain of nostalgia (especially among the English) that there was once a golden age when things were better. Luckily we don't apply that to medicine! 😄
  21. I'll be turning 60 in 2018. My enthusiasm and interest for playing music is as strong as ever but I'm determined to not waste any time. I've always been happy to play music of pretty much any genre with any type of musician, but I've had enough of time wasters. No gigs = goodbye
  22. Yes, it can be irritating. However, I find it quite a good 'Darwin Award' check. Some one is trying to sell you something. Collection or some kind of postage is inevitable. They don't make it clear where they live. Likelihood of a smooth transaction?
