I too would say leave it under tension. After all, if you were playing it every day, or less frequently, you would leave it under tension. So, why any different? I'll be very interested to hear alternative views. Like Phil, I speak not as a luthier but as an (ex-) engineer (Rolls Royce).
If someone is paying then I think a back up is part of a good service
I agree with this. If you're not taking back-ups then you need to be 100% confident in your tackle. Otherwise you risk looking an unprofessional jerk. Just my (old-school) opinion, of course.

Based on your music I'd recommend trying two in Derby. Both have FarceBook pages as; The Victoria Inn Derby and The Hairy Dog. I'd come and see you.

He seems to have always followed an idiosyncratic career path. For example, back in about '69 he had a band which included Rod Stewart on vocals and Ronnie Wood on bass. They could have been monsters, but it didn't last long. Jeff lost interest. There's been a bit of a pattern over the years. From what I can gather, he's always been more interested in his cars than pursuing musical 'big time'.
Tony. You need to support your Budgie band with the Judas Priest one and re-create a gig I saw in Nottingham, at the Sherwood rooms I think it was ,....who'd have thunk it ...Budgie supported by Judas priest......my head never stopped banging all night!
I saw that same line-up the night before, or after, at the King's Hall Derby (actually the municipal swimming pool with a lid on). 1974??? I thought Judas Priest were shyte...... Back on topic, there's a very successful pub venue in my town. Speaking to them, it's the sell-out tribute act gigs that allow them to take the financial hits on up-and-coming original material acts.

Any other Basschatters going this year? I shall be there on Saturday June 7th.

Welcome Nick and welcome to Basschat. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be fascinated to hear about the gigging scene in China. I reckon playing in a worship band over there might be a bit dangerous Len

Welcome kennedy. Lack of English skills doesn't seem to hold any one back here. Have fun Len

I play in a band that regularly uses a Roland V-drum kit. It works for us, with all the caveats mentioned above. It does seem though, depending on the musical genre and perhaps the venue too, some people are a bit 'sniffy' about e-drums. 'not very rock n' roll, are they mate' was heard in one pub. Final plus point, I've never heard of anyone complaining of damaged hearing caused by standing next to e-drums.

Fantastic. I'm really looking forward to seeing this project develop. The Kalashnikov AK47 Bass? Minimalist technology to provide reliable and basic functionality in hostile environments. -
A really good event, thanks to Roland Rock and SI600 for all the hard work to make this happen. Plus the amazing cakes supplied by Mr and Mrs Sharman. It was nice to put real faces to on-line names and also try out and see some amazing basses.
Not sure if this helps but, on my Zoom (H1), there is a switch that allows you to choose to save recordings as a WAV file or MP3. The WAV files take up much more memory than the mp3s and, if I use the wrong one (WAV), you cannot record a whole gig whereas, on the MP3 setting, I can record for hours and hours without any problems. Not sure if that is your problem but thought it worth a mention.
I'd say the same, and the .WAV vs .MP3 choice was my initial thought on reading the first post. Like Bilbo, I've recorded 2 hour+ sessions on the supplied memory card without a problem.
Shame you can't make it Andy. Here's an updated list then (I've re-inserted Len where Andy was before):
Thanks for the insertion 'Shell, I hardly felt a thing. I've got to be there really. What else could I do with 4 packets of chocolate biscuits? (2 of them being chocolate hob-nobs too).
I am not on that list above for some reason but I am confirming that I'll be there with a Warwick or two and GB STLMax 9.2 and cab. My friend was also hoping to come but I don't think he'll be bringing any basses.
Funny that, I disappeared off the list too. Who said Basschat was a bit cliquey eh?

If you can, get yourself over to next Saturday's Bash Bash at Enderby. (10th May). There's going to be at least one person there with an EUB. I'm sure friendly advice and the chance of a try-out with help you. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/228206-midlands-bass-bash-2014-100514/ Personally I am a very new starter to the upright world having just acquired a Stagg EUB. I'm at least the 4th BCer to have it. That's about as 'budget' as you can get! The prevailing wisdom seems to be; 1. EUB's don't really sound like a proper upright (unless you get a very expensive or specialised one) 2. Playing an EUB often results in a bad attack of GAS for a 'real' upright. Also, I'm not sure many (if any) EUBs can be played sitting-down. If you normally sit down for your pit work and/or other bands that might be a deal-breaker for you. Len

As a very recent joiner to the upright world (a Stagg EUB, of which I am at least the 4th BCer to own) this is very interesting stuff. Can anybody please enlighten me on the relative dimensions and differences between different upright basses? The half-size isn't literally half the size of a full bass is it?

Anyone using a stand to play while stood up?
Edit: Also I've seen Jack Bruce play while half-sitting, half-standing on some kind of shooting-stick arrangement, but I can't find a pic or video of him using it. Perhaps I just dreamt it!
He does it on the Albert Hall reunion gig dvd. He's had a stellar career and a liver transplant. I'm not sure the rest of us would get away with it! -
One of the first jobs I had on leaving college some 30 years ago was in music retail. There were shops renowned for their surliness and complacency even back then, and that's without the internet spreading the word.
So true, and this was also often the case for independent book retailers. See the pattern?
I opened this thread thinking it was about our Bilbo!
What? You mean they're not the same person? Now I'm really confused... Joking aside, the Batley Boy Wonder was a great singer. He never seemed to be comfortable on stage though the times I saw him. Anyone remember Vinegar Joe? A band from the 70's with RP and Elkie Brookes sharing vocals. They were great. I saw them at a flea-pit called Cleo's in Derby in about '74.

Bought Dave's EUB off him today. We only time for a brief meeting at Doncaster Services on the M18, but Dave seemed a thoroughly nice chap and he was a pleasure to do business with.
