Right. The arrangements are that I collect the Relay Bass from Peter (ubassman) on Friday in Matlock and I pass it on to TimR at South Mimms Services, M25 on Saturday morning.

Welcome youngster It's never too late, and we're all of us learners. Just on a different part of the journey maybe... Enjoy the forum Len
I think I am too long in the tooth to give a **** about such trivialities.
Ditto. Anyone who says that sort of thing isn't really worth your time or respect. I tend to adopt sarcastic indifference when someone tries to pull something like that. 'well, personally I don't like your shirt but I'll just have to try to get over it'

Welcome to the forum. Top marks for carrying your bass on public transport. In that London. It's good to go back to introductions that don't read like something written by Chris Morris.

Band PAs - what to get, anyone bought one?
Len_derby replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
You may have already considered it, but there will be the twin pleasures of transport and storage. I'm one of an acoustic blues/roots trio and similar to yourself, decided to go down the route of getting our own PA. As a result, at gigs where we use it we no longer fit into one car. This has cost and general hassle implications. Also, who's daft enough to keep it at their house and transport it to-and-fro? Oh yes, of course, that'll be the bass player. -
Congratulations! Not a player myself, I'm a banjo man (or Banjoid) for a bit of fun. But we all need a bit of fun in our music. If you've never heard of them, check out The Reentrants for what you can do with a uke' They're friends of mine and their gigs are a real blast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9qttFMGbfE

Don't forget to factor-in the cost of mics, mic stands, DI-boxes (if required) and the XLR cables. In my experience it's quite easy to spend more on those than for the Mixer/Amp/Speakers. Last tip, go second-hand. If you're prepared to be pragmatic there's loads of bargains to be had. -
Guys and Gals, If the baton is still in Derbyshire by August 9th I'm able to ferry it further south. I've got a weekend down in Kent (Burwash in the Weald area)and I'm happy to take the purple monster down there to pass on to someone else. If it's still with Peter I'll collect if off him beforehand. If it moves on before then, all well and good.
I'm reposting this one. Any interest?
Well, we raised a total of £338.96 ( including gift aid ) so really pleased. It was an orchestral concert at Haddon Hall, billed as Proms in the Gardens. The MC announced that normally I play Double Bass but for the next number I would be playing a special bass and introduced the BC Bass Relay. The orchestra played the Theme Tune to Rocky and we raised the money in 3 minutes that it took to play the piece ! Really fun as we used a coal bucket and anyone from the audience who wanted to donate had to rush up and put money in the pot whilst the song was playing ! Got good coverage on the local radio and will be on BBC radio Derby next week and in the papers ...just looking for the next BC'er now to come and take part. Sorry Jim ...looks like you are going to have to reset the target as we have now smashed the £1,000 mark !
Excellent Peter. Well done mate.

A photo from May when the baton was used at a barn dance. The take-up so far has been a bit disappointing I think. Apart from Derbyshire, of course (God's own county). Maybe there's a lot of bulls**ters on this forum who gig a lot less than they pretend. Prove me wrong guys and raise some money for a great cause.

Check this band out - brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.
Yeah. It's entertainment, not a music exam.
T-shirt please...... -
Tribute Bands - don't the active "original" band get miffed?
Len_derby replied to ben604's topic in General Discussion
The only personal experience I've got is that when an friend of mine discovered that his band had a tribute act he was thrilled to bits. He actually said 'now I know I've made it'. -
Semi-Acoustic / Electro Acoustic Advice please!
Len_derby replied to Clarky72's topic in Bass Guitars
I can recommend looking out for a Yamaha Bex. There's a piezo under the bridge in addition to the soap bar. I see you have a Barefaced cab; through my Big One the low-end is real 'rolling thunder'. If you're anywhere nearby you are welcome to take a look at mine (not for sale though!) -
Welcome to Basschat. There is plenty of fun, and new gear, to be found here. Len

Welcome Peter. Good luck for the Help For Heroes gig. I hope you wore different hats for the two bands.
Shithole venues are sometimes the only choice.
Getting involved in live music isn't for the faint-hearted. Even in a church I've seen an unsupervised toddler pull a mic-stand over, damaging both the SM58 and the acoustic guitar it smacked into. I think you have to assess the risks, 'gear-up' accordingly (e.g. take a cheapo bass if necessary) and try and stay alert. I don't have much faith in insurance policies (or pensions, or investments or financial products in general but that's a wider issue)

I use SheetMusicDirect. Usually for Broadway/West End standards. I don't know if they'll have what you want but I've found them a good supplier.
Are you absolutely sure you want to avoid Yamaha? This is a lot of bass for your money: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/209437-yamaha-trb-1005-pics-added/page__hl__trb1005__fromsearch__1
I bought this last Saturday. Alan, the previous owner (Keary5664) was off on an overseas trip almost straight away after my visit, so he hasn't had time to update the for sale thread. I thought I'd let you know to avoid you wasting any time.

I bought Al's Yamaha TRB1005 off him yesterday. A pleasant transaction all round, and Al was able to cater for me getting delayed in Saturday morning Manchester traffic. I can recommend doing business with this gentleman.
Is that a euphemism..? Oh hello Len - I didn't recognise you without your Viking hat on.
That being another euphemism?? Well CHW, are you getting an idea of the sort of place you've joined?

Welcome PB and enjoy the forum.
