If you guys have ever tried the other Squier with that similar Fender bucker in the neck then you'll know that sounds the bo**cks, it's a very deep Jack Bruce tone.

Spot on. I've been very happy with mine (in the avatar photo). Although my daughter nicks it to play in her indie band.
I've found it works best with roundwound strings.
Careful, you might catch the bug!
I've done holiday clubs for several years to the point where I've become the de facto musical director/band leader. One thing I do try and do is encourage and bring-on new young musicians into the band.
Planning your own exit strategy is crucial in voluntary jobs!
I love playing for children. You get instant, honest feedback.
If the band or the material is rubbish they let you know! None of that slinking off to the bar or shoe-gazing you get with adults.
Welcome Nobbly.
Why the groan? I like Lincolnshire. Most people from Derby do. You can't beat a wet, cold and boozy Bank Holiday in Skegness
Enjoy the forum and good luck with the sale.

I love acoustic guitars and have got a couple, nothing special though. What I am getting a bit bored of is the over-bright 'glassy' sound that almost all acoustics with piezo pickups DI-ed through PA seem to sound like. This seems to happen at festivals especially.
After several months of faffing around and having to put the banjo on the back burner because of bass commitments I finally did the first gig on it.
Just me and a fiddle player I've played with for years on instruments plus. a couple of singers. Great fun. I don't know why I waited so long!
Afterwards an elderly couple tried to engage me in a nostalgic conversation about the Black and White Minstrel Show. Apparently it's 'such a shame' it isn't on the tele anymore.

I'm more pissed off with people who think they can tell others what they should do in there spare time.

Where's that 'like' button when you need it?
just cos it's enjoyabe doesn't mean you should do it for free, maybe i should be more specific..
its the gigs where people pay to get in, sound, lighting, security, bar staff, EVERYONE gets paid except the band
That's exploitation. But, I if musicians are fully aware of it, and for whatever still play for free, isn't that ok? Informed choice, and all that.
Very timely thread!
I was rehearsing this afternoon as part of a trio (piano, bass, drums) for a charity event scheduled for the start of August. The event will be very much for the over-sixties, and very middle-of-the-road.
Current setlist includes;
Moon River,
This old House,
I'm on the top of the world,
Georgy girl,
Somewhere (from West Side Story)
Born Free
Fernando
Georgia on my mind.
Guilty pleasure - I'm really enjoying it!

Ocean turquoise metallic.

I'd say ocean turquoise too. I've got a CIJ jazz this colour (but not metallic)
Thanks for the link. I enjoyed listening to the set on the show last night. I would have loved to say 'hi' at The Flowerpot on Friday but I've got a gig myself elsewhere.
Please tell me, out of interest, when you record for his show to you actually get to meet Paul Jones? Or does he just swan in for his bit of the broadcast? I'm hoping the former because he's always come across as a decent bloke.
+1 for the Zoom H2.
A great piece of kit. The only slight criticism is that it looks and feels a bit flimsy. It doesn't look like it would survive a drop on a hard floor. So, depending on how and where you'd plan to use it, it might be worth a look before buying. In terms of construction, a Boss pedal it ain't!
If you'd any plans to come to Derby soon we could meet for a drink and I'll show you mine.
Some of you might remember that back in January I posted about the percussionist in the trio I play with. His wife died suddenly and totally out-of-the-blue. He, totally understandably, decided to take a break and we reverted to a duo for the time being.
Anyway, last night he made his comeback. With his new weapon, a Cajon!
A memorable night, in several ways.
Some good advice above. I play a lot in an acoustic guitar and electric bass duo.
After trying different things out I've found that a Fender Jazz strung with roundwounds provides the best blend with the guitar.
For a bit of variety in the set I drop out bass playing in some songs and provide harmonica or a bit of simple percussion. Tambourine, shaker, whatever.
I also supply most of the off-colour jokes between songs too.
Good luck, enjoy yourselves!
One tip. If you're playing outside makes sure any charts/notes/setlists you need are securely pinned down.
Sudden gusts of wind always seem to come at the worst time, even under a gazebo.
I use bulldog clips if using a music stand and tape things to the floor if not.
