1. Welcome Lewis. Centered text. Love it. Len
2.
I can usually find the meaning of forum acronyms by googling them, so I'm guessing this isn't one of those. Still none the wiser, but thanks for the input Len.
It's used as a sarcastic response to what is considered as 'stating the obvious'. I heard it used by Americans when I was working for BASF. Don't know the origin though. Sounds like the sort of thing a character in Catch-22 would say.
3.
What's NSS? I googled it but couldn't find anything relevant
No S*** Sherlock
4. As I've been taking the mick out of others it seems only fair to stick my own head above the parapet. This was taken back when the sun shone (three weeks ago).
5.

Can you please stop mincing around and just get on with that plastering job? Nice picture.
6. Welcome Rory. Len
7. I'd echo what EH says about having a custom guitar made. A guitarist friend of mine has a PRS. I don't know the model name, but it's a type of 'slimline' semi-acoustic. While it's good, I wouldn't say it's 'that good'. He thinks the same.
8.
Nice one Steve PS and it's a lot more satisfying than buying one isn't it?
You bet! I've been driving the family mad trying to find the 'sweet spot', while singing 'Postman's Knock' (saw Ashley Hutchings and Morris On do it at Southwell Folk Festival this last weekend)
9. Here is 'Herbert'. I've been testing with a crabby little 10watt practice combo but so far, so good. Thanks to Steve and others for their help and advice.
10. Welcome James. I like the photo. Where you meaning to look like a chemistry teacher? See my avatar photo. I have nothing to be smug about. Have fun, Len
11. Well, I've bought a cheap transducer. After rummaging aroung the garage I've located what I think will be a suitable box. It's one of the bits of junk I inherited from my dad, and as today would have been his 87th birthday I think I'll name the stomp-box 'Herbert' in his honour. I'll report back later on progress, with photos.
12. Hello Johnny, I love brevity. Len
13. Yes, you're right Steve, I should 'man-up' and make one! When using yours how do you run it to amplification? Do you jack-it straight into an amp/cab or combo? Or do you DI it into a PA? If the latter, do you go through a DI-box. Purely passive, or any pre-amping before the PA? Len
14. Unfortunately guitarists have 'history' on this one. To the best of my knowledge Keith Richards did it to Bill Wyman and Ronnie Wood did it to Ronnie Laine. Take a deep breath, don't take it personally. Move on. I know a guitarist who did this to a drummer's recored parts. He lost two teeth as a consequence.
15. The percussionist in the blues/gospel/Americana trio I play with is taking a break for family reasons. I've been thinking about getting one of those stompboxes of the kind that Seasick Steve and others use as a temporary 'drum' for the band. Anyone on here used one or got one?
16. Welcome Alan, have fun on the forum.

Hey

Welcome Tom. Enjoy the forum. Len
18. Far too many to recall without cringing, but here is a very recent one. Outdoor gig on Sunday, the natty gazebo we put up to keep the sun off blew upside down mid-way through a song. It wasn't even an upbeat song either.
19. Welcome. Your wife has good taste in presents! Have fun on the forum. Len
20. Welcome Tom. No newbie hazing rituals here. You'll be expected to make the tea and coffee for the first few weeks though. Have fun. Len
21. What you're saying here brings to mind a recent thread on here that observed that when it's been isolated the bass sound on some very well known and 'iconic' songs sounds disappointing. It's how the bass has 'mixed' (in the broadest sense of the word) with the other instruments that has been a large part of the magic.
22. Welcome Rich. Lovely music.
23. Welcome Greg, from someone just down the A38 from you. There's a few of us on here from around the Notts/Derbys/S.Yorkshire area. Show us a photo of the homemade 8 x 10. It sounds great! A 1920's Tallboy. Was that one of Al Capone's gang? Len
24. Wow Thom, that doesn't sound good at all. I've been happy so far with what he's done with my admitedly bog-standard Fenders. Food for thought.
25.
Absolutely, couldn't agree more I've noticed another thread or two on these here forums about music shops making a fuss about people trying instruments out etc. That's something I've certainly not found with R&D - they've always been very willing to let me have a go with any of the kit, and even leave me in peace while I do.
Yes, that's true. I've found that as well.
