1. Good thread revival! It's another gem of the Squier stable as far as I'm concerned. I tried flats but found the sound too muddy for my liking and went back to Rotosound rounds for a zingy tone. I bought mine pre-owned off this forum (or rather, the previous one)and it's all stock apart from a Badass II that had been fitted. It's in my avatar photo. I say it's 'mine', but I originally bought it for my daughter who was 15 at the time. She loves it and named it Gloria. At the time she was still quite short with little hands, so it's a testiment to the playability of the neck. I 'look after it' for her.
2. I've just bought a nice gig bag of Keith. A lovely bag, well packed up too. Good communications and an easy transaction all round. It was a pleasure to do business with him and I wouldn't hesitate to give him even more of my money.
3. Maybe the drummer isn't representative of the rest of the band regarding his attitude, but then again, you've got to be able to work closely with him. If he's being a bit squiffy, for whatever reason, it would be a bit of a concern to me.
4. I've fitted two Badass II bridges on to Fender Jazz bodies and they dropped into the existing holes perfectly. That's the info you wanted. Of course, there is differing opinion on whether it's worth doing it or not.....
5. Welcome Arnaud. We like noise rock here! Enjoy the forum.
6. Welcome Kev. Enjoy the forum.
7. Somewhere along the line the border between a person's output (be it artistic or any kind of produced good or service) and their personal character has been lost. For a lot of people it seems you can't like a performer's output unless you somehow approve of them as 'a person'. Infantile. Apparently Mozart was a bit of a d1ck. So what?
8. I try and circulate mine, to give them all a 'run-out' regularly. I like to think (maybe erroneously) that swopping neck profiles, numbers of strings, frets vs no frets adds to my skills. One funny side is that one of my two teenage daughters gets on at me for making the wrong wardrobe choices. I had this last weekend ' Dad, you cannot wear that colour shirt with that bass....'
9. Hello Michael. There's lots of fans of the Squier VM Jazz here. I love mine. There are pegged links here to several sources of sheet music which I think you'll find very useful. Look under 'General Discussion' second entry from the top. There are also some hard core Funk Fans. Sounds like you'll be at home!
10. Welcome to the forum Marc. You'll get lots of encouragement and advice here. But some of it will be contradictory, so get those pinches of salt ready! It's perfectly OK to enjoy yourself with an instrument 'home alone', but a lot of us on here will encourage you to play with others as often as you can. It really does fast-track your experience and learning. Have fun!
11.
Do you mean that he appears on Everyone hates chris or he was the composer for the show?
Yes, he did compose the music, but I've also seen one episode where he actually appears in a cameo role.
12. Hi Connor, Welcome to the forum. I go up to Sheff quite often because my brother lives there. We like The Greystone as a venue, but it's not really Metal! I used to like The Boardwalk a lot - but it's gone now My guess is you're more of a Corporation man. Len
13. Ashley has always been one to nurture new talent, and I suppose the ultimate is to develop your own replacement. In Business Management Bollox-speak I thiink it's called 'succession planning'. Good on 'im.
14. Well I like it. I've liked MM's stuff since 'Tutu' and loved his guest appearance in 'Everyone hates Chris' IMO what makes him a cut above most slappers is that he has a balance of skill and technique between both the right and left hands But then again, WTF do I know?
15. Do what the missus says!
16. Welcome Evilc. May the quest for The Ultimate 3 continue...... Len
17. I'm not sure of his name, but more and more often I see a skinny bloke standing at the back with a black hood and a dirty big scythe.
18. It's a bit easier to hear what Fraser is doing on 'All Right Now' on the 'Live' album by Free. For anyone not familiar with it, that's a brilliant album.
19.
Some people seem to be taking this overly serious - it's just a few lines from one of Rollins' books/spoken word routines that some venue employee has copied out and posted up somewhere for a laugh...
Yes, but it is a bassplayer's forum after all
20.
not if they are now drummers
Ha ha. One of them is!!! But as a female drummer, she gets lots of work as a teacher particularly with other females. It's quite a USP as business bulls****ers would say.
21.
Our local landlady often puts a spelling or grammatical error on the laminated menu things she puts on the tables. If you point an error out to her she tells you to put £1 in the charity box for being a pedant.
Q How many pedants does it take to change a lightbulb? A It's 'replace' actually, not 'change'. Back OT. Because of the generally high levels of sloppy unprofessionalism in all walks of life. (and it ain't nothing new) It only takes a small amount of attention to detail, empathy for others and patience to make a real difference. So, why not make the most of it? I drummed that lesson into my kids, and they're doing alright.
22. Sorry if this one's already been covered, but I always recommend the town of Glastonbury to people It's a genuinely fascinating place, both historically and socially. It also amuses me. It seems to be full of people who take themselves very seriously (maybe a high percentage of bass players ? ). As a town it also proves that building an economy on selling dubious bullshine is as old as the hills. Or should that be as old as the tors?
23. Hi Trip, Welcome back to the fun! Good choice of investment, there's a lot of Yamaha Love on this forum. I've never owned or played one (bass, guitar and motor bike!) that wasn't excellent value for money. Enjoy yourself. Len
24. Hi Heath, Welcome to the forum. Nice website you've got. Plenty of potential between Alpha and Omega Corby eh? The most southerly town in Scotland...
