1. I tried out a Black Beauty a good few years ago with the Roscoe Beck 5 I had at the time- it sounded brilliant through it! Sadly I had neither the cash to afford it, nor the desire to lift it up 6 flights of stairs to my old student digs... You'll be made up with this when you plug in!
2. What it says in the title! I'm really interested in A/B'ing either one of these fine amps against my Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0, using my Barefaced Compact. Is there anybody out there with either a 700 or 1001 RB-II within, say an hour's drive of Liverpool? I'll bring my setup with me of course, so if anyone's curious about the Compact or the Shuttle they can give them a spin... PM me if you have anything! Thanks, Etienne
3. I'm glad you managed to get this after all Chris- enjoy it!
4. Another +1 for the Trace 1153! I regularly gigged a late-90's (Pre-Gibson) model for several years and loved it... it never let me down once! That Celestion driver could handle a lot more power than its specs would suggest, and it sounded great for pretty much every style of music I play. It turned out to be a great recording cab too, especially with a Bassman valve head! Having owned and gigged my Compact for a while now, I think that overall it's a vast improvement on the Trace in almost every area. Loads more power handling, loads more bottom end, far more balanced tone from top to bottom, better tone at loud gigging volume, much much lighter, smaller and much easier to carry/transport... However, on the downside I must say that although the Compact is built very solidly where it matters, it's let down a bit by the finish, compared to other high-end cabs that I've owned. I ran the Trace for a decade and it still looked great when I eventually sold it, thanks to the tough carpet finish and metal corners. I have my doubts that the Compact will age as gracefully. The painted-on finish is already displaying chips and marks (despite me being very careful with my gear!), and I'm just not a fan of the plastic corners that Alex is using- they are cheap compared to the rest of the components used, and break easily (two of mine have split, although Alex has sent me replacements through). Sorry, this has accidentally turned into a review! Back on topic now... I've briefly owned a pair of Aggie GS112's, and must say that I greatly prefer the sound of a single Compact to a pair of these!
5. I'm glad that this has gone to a good home now- hope you enjoy it Marcus!
6. Unfortunately I've had to reconsider putting the cash down for this now- I'm gutted... This is a lot of bass for the money, especially at this new price- somebody buy this now! Regards and good luck Chris!
7. No word from Mr Redtenbacher as of yet, so this is still available! Now just looking for a cash sale...
8. That's a cool colour- like an old Cadillac! Are you sure you want to sell it?
9. I love happy endings!
10. I can't wait to get my hands on this- it'll be a real change for me from the usual passive Fender-type stuff!
11. I do love Berg gear... I'd be all over this like a fat kid on a fairy cake if only I didn't live on the 2nd floor!
12. +1 on the Bass Driver- stick a VT Bass in the chain as well and you'll be sorted for rock tones!
13. I've gigged the Shuttle 6.0 with my Compact several times now, and it's a killer combination IMO! It can hang with a very loud rock drummer by itself no problem, and gives me the option to one-trip my entire rig into a venue or up the stairs to my flat if required (Compact in one hand, Shuttle in shoulder bag, bass in gig bag over the other shoulder, GRAMMA pad and stand in other hand!). Alex also rates the Shuttle with his cabs, but I'm sure he can tell you that himself!
14. Thanks for the comments Jon! BUMP for one of the best-sounding ABGs around... at any price!
15. Hello all! I bought this lovely instrument from Bob Palt back in March this year, with the intention of using it for regular radio sessions with my band. The truth is that I've barely touched it in the time that I've owned it (it's mostly served as a pretty but costly ornament for the living room!), and now that I've left the aforementioned band I think it would be a good time to move it on... The bass is in very good condition throughout, and it's stayed that way since I've owned it. The only ding of any significance is a small fingernail-sized depression in the top (underneath the G-string by the bridge), apparently caused by the previous owner's wife whilst hoovering! I've included a photo of this below. It's beautifully put together and sounds great, whether played acoustically or plugged in. Plenty of unplugged volume too! Since owning it I've fitted a set of D'addario Chromes flats, which I think are the perfect strings for this instrument- they cut scratchy string noise down to a minimum, and sound fat with either pick or fingers! It's fitted with the LR Baggs 3-band EQ, which also features a phase-reversal switch to help combat feedback. It comes complete with the enormous Tacoma fitted hardcase (in very good condition), plus case candy: case key, truss-rod tool, preamp instructions, Tacoma catalogue, plus a Dampit soundhole humidifier with instructions. I'll also throw in the old D'addario Phosphor Bronze roundwounds previously fitted to the bass. I'm looking for a firm £475 for this beauty. ***EDIT: NOW SOLD PENDING PAYMENT!*** Shipping can be arranged at extra cost, or you can collect it in person from Liverpool city centre! I can also deliver this within reasonable distance of Merseyside if my fuel costs are covered... Thanks for looking! 16. I really like this! How about a trade for my Tacoma Thunderchief ABG plus cash your way?
17. I use the VT Bass and BDDI pedals together on DI-only gigs with great results! Most of the time I use the VT Bass for my sound, and connect it to the PA through the BDDI's XLR, effectively using the BDDI as a mutable passive DI (by turning all the knobs fully anti-clockwise, it cuts the signal when you switch it on- turning it off lets the VT Bass signal through). You can also connect a tuner to the parallel output of the BDDI too... very useful! If anyone else has both pedals, I really recommend that you try mixing them together- you can get some truly amazing rock tones that way! I've found that their differently-voiced EQs compliment each other really well- try using the BDDI's Blend knob to gradually mix its signal in with the VT Bass, and see if you like what you hear!
18. Just been listening to this- what a great performance from all three musicians! I'll bet that a certain Ben Folds had this album in his collection when he was a kid...
19. I've just clocked all the usual suspects sniffing around this already!
20. A fantastic cab at a great price- good luck with the sale!
21. We need pics of the new cabs in progress ASAP Alex!
