Mickey Quinn from Supergrass is another example - he's been playing the same Ibanez Blazer (or is it a Roadster?) for his whole career.
And I've read Mr Quinn also uses the same beaten-up old Carlsbro combo that he's owned for years for recording all those tasty 'Grass basslines...
2. If you're after a nice old P-bass, you could do a lot worse than mine! I've got a really tasty original '79 in the Basses For Sale section, feel free to have a look... Shameless plug over! Etienne
3. BUMP!!! There has to be somebody out there after a nice old P-Bass... show yourselves!
4. My friend Harry used to use a battered Peugeot 106, and before that an old 80's Micra, both with the front seat removed(!) to take his 3/4 size upright, plus a Hartke Kickback 12 in the boot. There was even room left to take a passenger, although they had to sit behind the driver's seat in the back!
5. BUMP AND PRICE DROP TO £750-00!!! Shipping now also considered at buyer's cost and risk.... Come get yourselves a bargain!!! Etienne
6. PM on the way!
7. This looks and works like new... it's never been gigged! Instructions included (just found them!) but no box... £15 plus P+P (shouldn't be much), or collect from Liverpool city centre. Thanks! Etienne
8. Thanks everyone for cracking me up, nearly choked on my cornflakes! Regardless of the reasons for the sale, hope this finds a good home soon... +1 for a sweet instrument!
9. Early weekend BUMP, plus pics of neck/body join, neck wear and back of body for earlier interested PMers... hope these help! BTW, have no suitable scales to weigh this at the mo, but it's certainly the lightest ash-bodied P-Bass that I've come across... At a guess, 9lbs? Thanks! P.s. Yes I know, the action is pretty high, but I prefer to dig in with either fingers or pick myself!
10. Thanks for the compliments people! I MAY consider shipping this if it hasn't found a home in the next 2 weeks or so... in which case the buyer will have to cover the relevant costs. I guess this also qualifies as a BUMP!
11. Hello! Please could you tell me what the spec is on the cab (weight, power and impedance)? Thanks!
12. Great clip SJA! Top playing from Mr Forbes, and the bass isn't bad either...
13.
Are you sure the tuners are original? They look too shiny, especially if you compare them with the rusty string tree. Amazing colour though, too bad you are not willing to post.
Hi fleamail, yes they are original, just in good nick, that's all! Please have a look at the attached photo above... Shame you're all the way over in Greece and aren't able to pop round to try it out, you'd definitely like it!
14.
Nice looking PB and an unusual colour, ive certainly never seen one like that. I think uve got the price about right. Might be good for u to introduce urself in the newbies section, before listing stuff for sale.
Thanks dude! Only one I've ever seen in this colour in the UK so far, seen a couple pictured in Bass Player magazine fairly recently though... I'm actually already on the introductions board! About two-thirds down the first page now I think, please read and leave a message!
15. More info & photos available on request, sorry these ones aren't pin-sharp! I've owned this for about 2 years, and it's a lovely instrument, take it from me! Sounds like a good P-Bass should- nails THE classic rock tone with the tone pot open, and the thick, Meters/old-school R'n'B sound with it rolled off... Fender still managed to put out some good instruments at the end of the 70's against all odds, and this is definitely one of them! As a result this bass has been gigged a fair bit in the last 29 years, and has the scars to prove it- the (apparently rare) Sienna Burst finish is dinged, chipped and worn as you'd expect after all this time... Definitely a gigger's bass rather than a museum-piece! Apart from a couple of bridge-height adjuster screws (replaced due to corrosion), this bass is otherwise original. The pickup covers and thumbrest had disappeared long before I bought the bass, but who really needs 'em anyway? The Ash body has a nice grain visible through the finish and is pretty lightweight for a late-70's Fender, while the maple neck is nicely broken-in on the fingerboard edges, and has some tasty tiger-stripe flaming on the back when held in the right light! Functionally, the bass works very well- the electronics are tip-top, and the truss rod, bridge and tuners all adjust smoothly. The battered non-original hard case I bought the bass with is included of course, and I will also throw in a brand-new Ritter gig-bag to use with it as well! I have to sell this for financial reasons unfortunately, and am letting it go for the fair price of £800, which was what I paid for it. Sorry, no offers or trades! Just looking for cash here... I'm based just south of Liverpool City Centre (by Sefton Park). Potential buyers are positively encouraged to come and try this out in person. Collection is preferred, but I'm prepared to deliver this within a 50-mile radius if my diesel costs are covered... Sorry, but I will not post this- it's too good for that! Thanks a lot for looking! Etienne
16.
Did you sell it to a guy from Wallasey?
I certainly did! He seemed like a nice fellow too, hope he enjoyed his double dose of Mini 48 goodness (already owns one of 'em) on the gig he was heading to...
17. SOLD, PAID FOR AND COLLECTED!!! And all by 10.15am! Thanks Phil, hope you enjoy using it on your gig this afternoon... Thanks again to all potential buyers! Etienne
well i,ve bought Warwickhunts Tech 6x10 . fingers crossed i,m gonna like it but i,m pretty sure i will!! the Bergs are amazing cabs but i just got this uncontrollable GAS for the tech . this type of urge comes over me on a regular basis
Nice one, it looks like a beast! Maybe I'll drop by for that coffee once it's been delivered to see if it sounds like one too...
19.
Hi Etienne As much as that sounds very tempting i really need the cash to fund my replacement cab,but your more than welcome to come and have a listen to them if you want, especially with you living just across the Mersey let me know what you think(oh,and i make a mean cup of coffee cheers Terry
Hi Terry, Thanks for letting me know, that sounds fair enough to me! However, if TWO Bergie 2x10's isn't cutting it, what are you changing to, if you don't mind me asking? You've laid the gauntlet down with the cabs & coffee offer though, will be in touch! Guess I'll just have to crack on and get my two fine instruments sold, then see if these are still around... Any takers? Watch the Basses For Sale forum over the next few days!
20.
oh man if only it would be closer - i have sansamp - its not mint but still very very good condition and i would paid you 50 quid. I'm in Cardiff but i might be in Liverpool in July (maybe we will be playing gig there).
Thanks for the interest guys! To Ben: I'm pretty sure that I won't be posting this, UNLESS absolutely no-one bites in the next month! Somebody PM'ed me about 2hrs ago asking if they can try it out tomorrow morning, so I'll see how that goes... To Fifeq: If your gig's on next month and the cab still hasn't sold by then, please PM me. BTW, please clarify- did you mean you'd trade me your Sansamp PLUS £50 for the cab, OR did you mean you'd trade me the Sansamp ONLY and pay me £50 for diesel? Thanks again!
21.
hi everybody ok,i have here for sale, two bergantino HS 2x10 cabs .one was purchased a couple of weeks ago,the other a couple of months ago. Both are in pristine condition and have hardly been used. They both come with Berg covers which cost £110 for the two. measurements are:23"w x 18" h x12"d each weigh; 23.6kgs(easy to carry!) each cab is 8ohm each cab is 400 watt they are extemely powerfull individually, but together at 4 ohm they shake the room!! to buy new would cost £1200,i,m looking for £850 which i think is a good price.i would prefer to sell as a pair but would split them if i get two buyers cheers Terry I live on the Wirral (near Liverpool)
Hi Terry, I would love to try these out! Are you looking for cash only, or would you consider trades? If so, I can offer you EITHER my 2004 Fender Roscoe Beck IV in Lake Placid Blue (matching headstock, VGC with case and tools) OR my '79 P-Bass in Sienna Burst/ Maple (well gigged but a beaut!) as a straight swap for both Bergies. BTW, I'm just over the water from you in Liverpool (by Sefton Park)! Let me know what you think, Cheers! Etienne
22. I bought this a couple of years ago on Ebay to partner up with my other early Mini 48- gigged together, they made a tiny 1200WRMS 8x8 that could cut right through my old blues/rock band's twin guitars no problem! However, since I finally managed to track down an early ABM Mini 15 this year and prefer the extra low-end, I have no need for this anymore... It's a 2003 model (going by the serial number), which means it's the early, 'stealth' design (black rectangular carry handles either side, black-finished metal corners, and plain black grille with little Ashdown logo badge) It has both 1/4" jack & Speakon inputs. 600W RMS @ 8ohms, weighs about 30 Kenny G's, but easy to pick up and carry! Functionally, it's in great shape- sounds clear and punchy like it should. The only very minor gripe is the jack socket needs re-tightening every once in a while, as the plastic fastening nut eventually works loose with repeated plugging & unplugging- an easy fix though and doesn't affect the sound one bit! I always used the Speakon input anyway... Cosmetically, it gets 9/10. it's seen a few gigs, but is actually pretty tidy. There are just a few small nicks and minor scuffs in the vinyl covering here and there, and... that's it really! I'm looking for £150 for this, or I may swap for an A1 condition, boxed Sansamp BDDI (preferably the current model with the extra switching). Sorry, no offers! I'm based just south of Liverpool city centre, and I seriously encourage interested parties to come and try this out in person. Sorry, but I won't post this due to the weight, and also because I don't trust couriers! However, I am prepared to deliver this within a reasonable distance (say, 50 miles) if my diesel costs are covered... better budget for an extra £150 in that case! Thanks for looking!
23. Hello everyone! A BC'er known as Sparky told me about this place... I'd been lurking around here for a few months before deciding it was a cool place to hang out! I'm 31, and have been playing bass for 15 years now, but I've been hooked on the instrument for much longer! I still remember buying my first bass back in April '94 (a 10th-hand 'Grant' Jazz Bass copy with stupidly high action!) with £90 that I'd scraped together doing chores for the old man- he was nice enough to buy me an amp to go with it though! I always remember the drive home from the music shop afterwards, mainly because I first heard the news of Kurt Cobain's death on our car's radio that afternoon... I'm basically self-taught, but I've had some great mentors along the way- the very first was Sting, courtesy of a Police greatest hits CD I got for my 15th birthday! The following are all dudes as well in my book (In no particular order & by no means exclusive!)... Willie Weeks, Bruce Thomas, Bedders, Mick Quinn, John Paul Jones, James Jamerson, Rick Danko, Timmy C, Dirk Lance, Ben Kenney, John Entwistle, J.J. Burnel, George Porter Jr, Bob Babbitt, Larry Graham, Stuart Zender, Mani, John Deacon, Mark White, Robert DeLeo, etc, etc... As you can tell, my tastes are pretty eclectic! The most recent player to leave a lasting impression on me was Justin Chancellor of Tool, who is just a brilliantly creative player! I mainly play using my self-taught fingers-and-thumb picking technique (with all its quirks), but a few years ago I really got into using a pick as well (thanks in no small part to Mr Chancellor)- now I use whatever works best for the music I'm playing! I've been playing in bands more or less constantly since I joined my first one back in school, and I'm still enjoying it! I've been based up here in Liverpool for 10 years now, and in that time have played with a lot of cool people. My previous band, Xander and the Peace Pirates, were fortunate enough to do some great gigs, which included supporting blues artist Eric Bibb on the first night of his UK tour, and also opening for the legend that is Buddy Guy, both at the nearby Philharmonic Hall. Needless to say, both were amazing evenings! I also regularly dep for a couple of my good bassist mates (playing in their function/bar bands), and do the odd bit of session playing & recording too. Most recently I've played a couple of gigs apiece for two local legends of the 80's scene- Pete Wylie (Mighty Wah!) and Ian McNabb (Icicle Works), which were all pretty fun, though somewhat chaotic at times, shall we say! However, one still has to make a proper living in between, so I work as the delivery driver for an independant coffee shop/catering company in the city centre... Tonewise, I'm always experimenting, but always seem to gravitate back towards the big and round old-school Fender/Ampeg vibe. However, as I live in a 2nd-floor flat, an SVT and 8x10 is just not happening! My rig is a Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II head and two Barefaced Compacts. I also regularly use either a Sadowsky preamp or a Tech 21 Bass Driver DI to fatten my sound up, depending on the gig. I've been through a fair few basses over the years (though not as many as some of you lot!)- at some point I'll post a list of them all in here. However, I seem to have pretty much settled on these for what I do: - Fender US/Japan hybrid Stack-Knob Jazz Bass (80's Japanese Oly White body, USA 62RI R/W neck, Nordstrand NJ4s, CTS pots, Series/Parallel switch, copper-shielded/star-grounded, Ernie Ball rounds) - 1983 Squier JV '57 Precision Bass (Oly White, Maple neck, Nordstrand NP4, CTS pots, copper-shielded/star-grounded, D'addario flats) - Yamaha BB414- Defretted (Black Pearl, R/W neck, PJ pickups, CTS pots, high-mass bridge) Nice to meet you all! Etienne
