1. Yeah, unfortunately I don't have any gigs booked back home till the summer. Otherwise I'd have brought it over with me. Not really keen on posting as I don't have the original box any more.
2. This is a great little combo, packs a real punch for its tiny size. Perfect as a stage monitor (has a nifty tilt back feature), studio amp or standalone on small gigs. 270w power (350w with an extension cab). Still looks and sounds as new, it's about 6 months old. Selling as I don't really need it and I prefer the flexibility of my other dual channel amp. RRP is £1049 on these. £400 collected from London. I'm away from home at the mo so will post pics at the weekend.
3. Hi Daf, Hope you're well. To be honest I think the price is about right, just think it's very very slow for shifting anything at the mo. I've been trying to sell my five string for the past month and have priced it at what I think is quite cheap, but unfortunately still no takers. I've noticed too as soon as you say laminate it puts people off. Don't know why though, I'd take a good laminate bass over a cheap carved one any day.
4.
Oh I'm interested alright but I can't shift my Stingray 5! Fancy a straight swap??
I'd love a ray 5 again but unfortunately need the cash, cheers anyway
5. No one interested in a great fiver at a great price? The strings alone are worth £200
6. guitar wall hanger, cheap as chips and takes up a lot less space than any stand. Simply rest the shoulder of the bass on the wall and drill in the hanger so it holds the bass just below the peg box. I have a small bit of foam stuck to the wall where the bass touches too. I've got two basses like this and it saves a hell of a lot of space. Or as you've just got one, rest it in a corner, bridge inwards. Way more stable than a stand and costs nothing.
7. Hi Geoff, I would suggest staying away from brand new instruments in that price range, it's just too much of a gamble. You don't know what the bass is going to sound like in a few years once it's settled down. Bryants that I've played have really impressed me for the money but I'd want one that had been played in. Take a trip down to Malcolm Healy's in Sutton and Thwaites in Watford to see what they have in. Also keep checking the adverts on http://www.musicalchairs.info/double-bass/sales, there's always some nice instruments on there and sometimes on http://www.musicalinstrumentsales.co.uk/dbassales.html too. There are also a few organisations out there dedicated to helping starting out musos purchase instruments and if you're lucky, they could sort you out with an interest free loan or similar. Then buying a ten grand bass that will last you your whole career may be possible. Just a thought. Main thing is take your time choosing. If you like really like one, take it away on trial, play gigs with it, have your mates and teachers play it to you, play in different acoustics etc. Just be sure its right for you. Good luck with the search
8. Still available, will accept £850 for this great bass
9. Still available, will accept £850 which is a an absolute bargain!
10. For those that have asked, the bass weighs in at 9lbs exactly (well, according to my bathroom scales)
11. Now on ebay with some other stuff too. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/chrkelly1/m.html?_n...p;_trksid=p4340
12. I'd recommend Mike Hart, think he's up in Suffolk. He makes some tasty basses too.
13. Now on ebay with a few other items http://shop.ebay.co.uk/chrkelly1/m.html?_n...p;_trksid=p4340
14. My fiance's still nagging me about having way too much gear cluttering up the flat Ebay is looming.
15. It's weird isn't it, it's the same with bows, I doubt you'd ever see anyone playing French in Germany and vice versa but here in the UK it's split pretty much evenly. In France they play a lot on those Quenoil style basses and go for a very soloistic sound with loads of overtones. Here it's all about deep fundamental. I prefer the C extension but I'm probably biased that way as that's what I play on the vast majority of the time. That and there's just something satisfying about hanging off the scroll of your bass for the low stuff. Makes you feel you're playing like you really mean it.
16. Here's mine, probably the best sounding fretless I've ever played.
17. I'd say it makes no difference if you're starting from scratch, both 4s and 5s will feel equally alien to you. Fair enough it's harder to pick out a single string with the bow on a 5, but once you're used to it the closeness makes string crossings smoother, faster and easier. 5s are common in orchestras, especially in Germany where people play 5s almost exclusively. Oh and will always find a use for the low notes. For the type of work I do, I wouldn't get booked if I didn't have a fiver or an extension.
18.
Thanks BOTB I've put the whole set on and I can't believe the sound and playability of this bass. Must find out what these strings are!
they're definitely Pirastros, look like Flexocor to me but the bottoms look a bit too red in the pics. Think they're usually darker.
