1. I'm trying out strings on my new bass and have come to conclusion that I just don't like the spiro sound. Anyway, they've hardly been used. Weich/light gauge (purple tops, red bottoms). Full set G-E. SOLD
2. Bump, this is a great bass for not a lot of money.
3. Ultralight styrofoam 3/4 size hardcase. In a bit of an oversight it turns out that my new bass doesn't fit in this so it's now useless to me. It's one of the gear4music style ones and is great for non plane touring. SOLD
4. Afraid not Chris. Just bought a another double bass today so need some funds towards it. Those old Ibanezs are great instruments though. Cheers
5. Just bought a new bass and I don't have room for 3!
6. Bump There's now 3 uprights in the flat and my fiancé is not at all pleased about it!
7. It's the same bass! I bought it off Artisan last summer and it's been my go to bass for west end work ever since. Really don't want to let it go but unfortunately uprights aren't cheap. Oh and the knobs are still the original Fender style ones, the lighting in the photo makes them look like Sadowskys. Cheers
8. Surprised this hasn't gone yet. They're outstanding amps, very warm and detailed. Sound especially good with Epifani UL cabs, well to my ears anyway Great price too.
9. Great bass but unfortunately I need some funds for a new double bass. Standard vintage jazz bass specs - alder body, maple neck, rosewood board, passive single coils with vol/vol/tone controls. The body is finished in sonic blue nitro but this has faded to a kind of light seafoam green over time. Looks great. Think it's from the mid 90's and has picked up a few dings on the way but nothing that affects the playability. Sound-wise it's quite resonant and very even across the board. Typical vintage jazz bass sounds. Currently strung with a new set of La Bella flats (not the black nylons pictured). Old hardcase is included. £500 colllected from London, no offers or trades NOW WITHDRAWN, can't let this one go I'm afraid
10. True, though it would need a new nut, bridge and tailpiece for the conversion. It's designed as a proper fiver though so the neck might feel a bit chunky with only 4 strings on it. The tuner should be an easy fix though, just needs a new paddle stuck in the slot on the end of the peg. I've been using it since last summer this way with no problems though.
11. Hi PedalB, I recently bought a Finale bow from the String Emporium over in the states and I'm very impressed with it. It came to £300 exactly incl. shipping and import taxes etc. That also included a bow case and a cake of Kolstein too. I bought it as a spare to my PW Bryant bow and I'm surprised by how well it handles. It's balanced quite close to the Bryant and draws sound very easily and at reasonable volume too. It does sound a bit synthetic in the higher registers though when bowing very close to the bridge and vibrates a bit too much on the open C at full volume. But for all the money it cost, it's brilliant. I only wish I had one when I was learning, I would have progressed a hell of a lot faster. 12. Hope this is ok to post a link here, http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=78003 Cheers, Chris
13. It's a great instrument that I've been playing a lot for theatre pit gigs, however I've since bought another instrument that's more similar in size and response to my 'main' bass. Anyway, the label reads "Copy of Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1721, made in Germany". No date stamp but it looks like it's maybe 40/50 years old. It's a pretty standard 3/4 size viol shape. The body is laminate along with a nice thick ebony fingerboard and tailpiece. Also has ebony strips lining the neck heel, something usually only seen on older expensive basses. Structure wise, it's quite solid. There's been repairs to the scroll and headstock that were carrried out by the respected London luthier Roger Dawson some time ago and have been stable ever since. The A string tuner paddle is missing. Tunes fine though, the mechanism is still perfect it just needs a new paddle stuck in the slot on the end of the peg. Soundwise, it's very even string to string and bows very well. Tuning is stable. The fingerboard and bridge have a nice deep radius so arco is easy for a five string. The pizz sound is full with good sustain and projects well. String length is a comfortable 105cm. Comes strung with a set of a full set of Thomastik Spirocore mittels strung G to low B. A high C string is also included but not fitted. Hardcase shown is not included. NOW SOLD
14. I'm good Len, just need some more gigs at the mo. Hope you're well. oh and BTW I actually sold the Stingray to get some cash for the 72 p!
15. Ha there's 2 of my old basses as avatars in this thread! How's the 72 going Clarky?
16. Oh crap! Must resist. This used to be my main workhorse and it's an absolute beast of a bass, alway's regretted selling it. Good luck with the sale Len, I'm half tempted myself
17.
As new,boxed,manual,£32 posted.
if this is the one with the buzz feiten mode I'll take it. Will hopefully make setting up my mtd a bit quicker. Is paypal ok?
18. I miss it already sniff sniff Enjoy it Clarky, it's a beast of a bass
19. It's a device that mounts on your music stand and gives you full control over your own headphone mix. It's kinda like a simplified mixing desk. Very useful if there's not much time for soundchecks. If you're relying on just the soundman I'd recommend buying a cheap in line volume control to prevent yourself being deafened.
20. I'll post a better reply once I'm not on my iPhone but headphone choice is quite personnal. I use beyer 770s which are quite bass heavy but the sennheiser hd25s are also a popular choice. Or go in ear but if you're doing several several shows a day they're not that comfy unless you go for custom moulds (very expensive). Definitely go closed to avoid bleed into any mics though. Are you using Avioms?
21. Edgar is probably my favourite soloist. Check out his recording of the Bottesini concerto, there's so many great players out there but none can touch him on that recording. It's on a completely different level! Think it may be on spotify.
