1. Yet another clearout! La bella FL flats xl scale 5 string, 43-128 tapered B - bought to try on my MTD but that bass definitely prefers stainless rounds. Cut for the mtd headstock 2/3 config, they won't fit a Fender. Only on the bass a day - £20 La bella FL flats 4 string (43-104) - cut for Fender headstock, used but still years of life in them - SOLD Ernie Ball group 4 flats (40-95) - on a bass when I bought it but way too light for me, cut for Fender headstock, good condition - SOLD Rotosound trubass black nylon (65-115) - cut for fender headstock, very low tension despite heavy gauge, good condition - SOLD Gotoh 203 bridge - no screws (unless I can find them again!). Very solid fender style replacement but I definitely prefer the sound of the original bent tin one - SOLD All prices inc postage. Cheers, Chris
2. Hey NS, apololgies for the delay, work's been crazy. Pics below as promised.
3. Sure I completely agree with the principle, anything that makes flying with a bass easier and less stressful is a very good thing. I just wonder why they didn't go all the way with the downsizing and make it very portable (like the Kolstein travel bass or the Eminence for example) rather than just chop the bottom half. Haven't played an Auray before but his normal basses are meant to be pretty tasty as far as new instruments go. I wonder how long it takes for it to settle down after refitting the neck and bridge.
4.
I might be interested in this. Can you post a closeup picture of the crack in the neck? Would you be prepared to pack it up and ParcelForce it if I paid the delivery and insurance costs? Thanks, NS
Sure, I'll sort some pics out tomorrow. I have an old hardcase somewhere that I can send it in, though I'd prefer to meet in person if possible. Cheers, Chris
5. I've played one but to be honest didn't really see the point. It played ok, didn't have much acoustic volume or depth and just looked ugly. They're not that much smaller than a normal bass and the flightcase is still big and bulky. If you wanted a small touring bass you could find a far superior 1/2 size for that kind of money. That said, a lot of people seem to like them though.
6. Depends what it is. Try me (must be fretless though)
7.
Hi guys, I'm looking for a double bass teacher based in/around Leeds. Although jazz is my passion, I want to learn to play classical music and specifically learn about arco technique. Does anyone know of any teachers? Cheers, AJ
Best bet would be to get in contact with one of the Opera North players. I'm sure the orchestra's admin would pass on a message for you.
8. Zon's take on the super j. It's a great bass but unfortunately the very slim neck is beginning to give me left hand problems (and I could do with some cash!). It's in reasonably good condition, it's worn roundwounds it's whole life and has very little wear due to the composite fingerboard. There is a small crack at the heel of the neck on the g side that was there when I bought it but it's nothing to worry about. Lots of usuable sounds from the Zon custom Barts and Zon pre. Controls are master, pan, stacked treble and bass, mids with 3way frequency select. Harmonics ring out enough to make you think you're Michael Manring. Balances nicely and has great access across both octaves on the neck. I'd like £800 firm (a new one will set you back $3500 in the US) Here's the link to Tim's original for sale thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=zon+sonus I'm in SE London and would prefer to meet up in person, however I do travel with work so could sort something out if convenient.
9. Hi Mikey, I'd guess it would probably be around the £4000 mark but better take it to a luthier who knows their stuff to be sure. Thwaites are bass specialists and are down in Watford so not to far from you. Anyone else I know of are down in south London. 10. On my Tarrantino upright it measures 6, 9, 9mm on the E string. Take off the E capo so the string becomes a low C and it jumps to 12, 12, 11mm for the same positions. Scale length is 110cm/134cm extended. Strings are heavy Pirastro original flatchromes. Height wise it's a medium orchestral setup but the string length is quite big. I've got big hands though. Haven't measured the electrics yet, though I'd consider them medium. I can't play dynamics with anything too low.
11. Just bought Clarky's Harvest bag so this almost new Warwick bag is surplus to requirements. This is the one I've had it about a month and it's only been out of the house 2 or 3 times. Loads of padding, nice velvet interior and loads of pockets. original cost £55 plus postage from Thomann. How's £35 collected/£40 posted sound

SOLD

Apologies Ari but just told my other half about this and she almost kicked me out of the house. In the interests of having a mildly stress free life for the near future, I think I'll have to pass on this one. It does sound like a stunning bass though and I'm sure you won't have a problem finding a buyer for it. You don't see many fretless MTDs available at all. Good luck with the sale, Chris

SOLD

Sure, I'll dig out the camera. It's in 3 tone sunburst with a rosewood board. The finish is in good nick for it's age too. It's also very resonant. Watch this space.

SOLD

Oh crap. Don't suppose my '72 Fender p or my Zon fretless 4 would be of any interest. Also, what are the woods. Might go nicely with my fretted one.
15. The long time industry standard monitoring headphone. I've since upgraded to a set of dt770s so these are no longer needed. They're the 400 ohm version. Good condition, however I've lost the tiny screw that secures the cable. They work just fine without it though. £55 inc p&p
16. I've got a K&M too, had it about 10 years. Nice and comfy but very heavy. If I have to use public transport to a gig, the stool stays at home. Major- Mine doesn't have the backrest and it's still very squeaky! I would never bring it to a session. Mine's all gaffa taped up at the mo to stop it. They're fine when new but over time all the moving parts work loose.
