1.
with guard? or without?
WITHOUT! Looks Suh-weet.
2. The Sterling is actually more aggressive due to the Ceramic vs Alnico magnets of the Stingray - much more mid range emphasis. The Phantom coil is to eliminate hum in the single coil setting. Personally, I think StingRays are the coolest basses and no alternative (including ibanez ATK) sounds like it.
3. Fretless Ray incoming soon hopefully...for the 2nd time!
4. Get a Bongo 5! Loverly bass, I was *very* close to buying that a while ago. Nice one! (They'll love to see it on the MM forum...)
5. Terminator 2: Judgement Day. When he decends into that pit of lava...gets me every time.
6. You're so right with all those tunes. In fact the whole of the Lion King is just fantastic, music wise (it's also 1 of 2 films I cry in!)
7. It's good to see 1 person who appreciates it! Awesome stuff.
8.
And as the bass is a tool which may be superceded, it may one day find itself alongside the kazoo, the banjo and the mandocello in 'fashionable instrument heaven'. Thus it may not have the long-term security of, say, fine art.
Oh don't say that! If everyone played Bongos this would not happen.
9.
Rancid - Time Bomb
Excellent. Or anything involving Tim Armstrong really.
10. Take this for example, the full version of 'Hakuna Matata' Check the sweet-ass fretless playing. Nice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSW4Mqihbd4 Zak
11. Make sure you show us pics of the Piezo one tomorrow!!
12. You mention not being able to play melodic chordal thingies on a Music Man - maybe you should look into a Stingray/Sterling with Piezos in the bridge, as this reall does sound great for that kind of stuff. The Sterling is a versitile bass anyway, more so than the Ray. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rNKuYuex1I At the end of this video, he does a quick demonstration of the harmonic qualities of piezo bridges. Beautiful sound.
13. I'm listening to alot of Flow Dynamics recently...the self titled album 'Flow Dynamics' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj3mbRi_ogU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZMuJ-8xycY (just to demonstrate the music...not my film or anything!) If oyu can find this CD anywhere, get it as it's incredible.
14. Unmarked. It looks badass. ANd I'm a fan of pau ferro boards...that wood is beautiful. I'm yet to try a fretless ebony board but it looks 'schweet'
15. This video just blew me away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1jspFD_aow...layer_embedded# Excellent stuff!
16. Everyone should own a Bongo.
17. I got the Haggis Horns 'Hot Damn!' the other day and it is truly awesome. Loving the enter the dragon theme rendition as track 1...Enter the Haggis.
18. It's true, I'm a complete fanboy. Love that EBMM forum, to me it just shows fantastic customer support and we can actually pitch ideas and beg until we get something. For example, ebony on on stealth finish basses - he once said 'that'll never happen' but then look what happens... But I literally LOVE everything that comes out of that factory, which is what seals it for me. MMs are the basses for me, whatever the model.
19.
no, a 4HS is all you ever need
I hear that! Fookin' love this bass.
Egyptian Smoke for me.
I hear that! Bloody love this finish.
20.
As nice as the seafoam one does look... I can't help but think sterling ball is a HUGE hypocrite, preaching about how he's apparently moving the industry forward and can't stand all these people obsessed with vintage/retro gear. *ahem*.
He's just giving people what they want. Plus you really can't argue with all the new stuff they brought out this year. Plus, these are lmited run.
21. For me, the Music Man Big Al is on top of my list, another Bongo (single H) and the 25th anniversary HSS bass. I like the MusicMans.
22. I think adding aftermarket pre-amps to a MM seems to defeat the point...to me anyway. MM takes great pride in their electronics and it forms a huge part of the overall sound.
