Modern toroïdal transformers, much, much lighter than the original Partridge iron. These have other advantages, too, aside from the weight (or lack of...), such as zero chance of having laminations loosen. If only they'd been around 'back then'..!
This a very serious bit of kit; good luck with the sale.Yes, the output transformer in my Traynor is the same. Hmm, sorely tempted...

Their website says these only weigh 25kg!? Can't be right surely? Any idea?

My rubbishy bathroom scales tell me it's about 3.5kg, so not exactly back-breaking.

Thread updated, few bits still hanging round.

I’m guessing that with a swamp ash body this may be pretty light weight. Do you know ?
Yeah it is rather, although I mainly play a roadworn precision so I'm kinda spoilt. I'll update tomorrow morning with a number.

Feel like I have something to add to this thread, might be useful for any future searchers.
I've been a chromes user for a while and thought I'd give something else a shot, so I strung a 45 - 105 set of cobalts up on my Roadworn Precision tonight and wow - there's that tone I was looking for! It's deep, punchy and with just enough top end definition. It what Ernie Ball claim is true, the tone should last a while.
I felt them to be a little stiff and a bit too grippy at first, however I felt the same way about the chromes so hopefully they'll relax with a few more hours of play on them.
As a side note, be careful not to cut them too short, if you have a tendency to do so like me. I'd say that on a fender style bass, you'd be okay with stringing them up right out of the pack, no cutting needed. They really don't give you much extra length to play with. Love the purple silks though.

I like Madness but find Suggs is a vocalist of very limited talent, he’s a talking type singer.
Watching it also, what he lacks in talent he makes up for in character!

Great thread.
As a teen, I had a very tall cabin bed with a ladder and a climb akin to Everest. One morning, on my descent before school, I blacked out for some reason (possibly the altitude) and fell face-first onto my Squier Precision.
I split my brow and chipped a tooth. The bass lost the ear of a cheapy tuner which I glued back on, other than that, no damage at all although the wardrobe it was propped against sported a very large gouge down its front.
The bass still exists in some state although my brother in his infinite wisdom decided to paint it slime green at one point. 😊

Blimey! Not a great advert.
Yep, the medium stages sported the 500w terror bass and the main stage had the ad200b aloft the matching 8x10 all of which sounded great. I've owned the ad200b which was great for the period that I had it and I've been semi interested in getting a terror bass so that experience by no means put me off Orange.

Played a small festival tent with one of these and unfortunately couldn't hear myself at all. Just myself, drummer and a guitar player (30w Marshall valvestate 1x12.)
Possible that it was faulty I guess, but I dimed the thing and only received a fart. Unfit for purpose in that instance. Festival was sponsored by Orange that year and all.

Disregard the unnecessary noodling and wordiness.

I've had a look for one in the past, found nothing recently. There was a Japanese brand called 'Double Eagle' which, apparently, used to make quality replacement parts. Not sure if they got as far as the UK though.
-
All of this. Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime. My task for the last year or so is to play this (somewhat perfectly) the whole way through. I've learnt everything by ear and I'm almost there.
Spillage is huge.
Thanks Watt.

Don't suppose this is still around?

Haven't bought B-stock, but I've bought from Bax loads of times and they've always given first-rate service.

What are you implying? It doesn't matter how crap the strings are, because they're for a Rickenbacker?
That's a new one...!

Hi-Beams are once again reduced on Amazon - I picked a set up for just under £20 if anyone is interested. No problems with QC either.
Just when I was thinking about new strings for the Rickenbacker!

Interested in this, where are you based?

I've sanded the necks of Japanese fenders before, they were gloss and there was a lot of it, took me a good few hours with a dense grit sandpaper.
I don't want to take my nitro finished necks all the way down to the wood so I just give them a go over every now and again with a semi used scotch brite pad. I get sweaty-ish hands too at gigs and I find this helps to keep them smooth.
Failing that, maybe keep a small towel to had to wipe down with mid-gig. I find this is the least labour intensive method. Just don't leave it on top or your amp covering the fan or anything... 😉
