Maybe a bit off topic BUT, has anyone else ever picked up a pack of Kaman bass strings? There used to be a shop in Luton called P+T music that sold them. The packet said "These strings have been cryongenicaly frozen to enhance their molecular structure, increasingly their playing time tenfold." and still only 15quid for a 5 string set. they were sh*t.
Cheap strings are a nono My last set of EB super slinkies cost me £22. I know i could have gotten them for a few quid off on the net but i'm trying to buy everything from shops now, one in particular.

In that respect i'm pretty lucky i suppose, i don't have to pay my own way yet really, there are a few things that i have to spend money on, but it's relatively easy for the moment, but at the same time i don't have cash flooding in either.
Me neither. I would love to know why prices are sky rocketing. I don't see much has really changed apart from the cost of credit.
apart from oil being slightly harder to come by, but surely not enough to increase the price of petrol and diesel by about 30% in the last year or less?

I bet he didn't even pay that for it new. Saying that who would even consider bidding on that instead of clicking that? Some sellers have no common sense at all, i swear.

The thing is, if you're in a decent job you'll be fine, as it stands i don't know that many people suffering from this 'credit crunch', but i am only 17... though i drove past the petrol station earlier (in a friend's car), diesel was £1.39 a litre, that's gone up 12p in about 5 weeks! Jesus christ, i can't help thinking that a lot of this is due to people just being greedy. Also the americans for being in so much damn debt, same over here though to an extent.

A couple round here have closed, the scene died for a couple of years though and it's only just starting to pick up again... a bit. One of the more popular venues is under new management and bits of kit keep going missing (a smoke machine, 2 sets of cymbals and a £300 double bass pedal) and we don't know who to suspect, nobody wants to leave their equipment there overnight anymore, and it was fine before. Also my guitarist opened the case for his wireless system today and found another local band's setlist in it. Hmm, that's iffy, there's no reason he would have put it in there. i'm gonna have words with them.
Funnily enough that's why I don't care for the Sub. Like having a Porsche Boxster , everyone knows you can't afford a 911. But get an MX5 , half the cost of a Boxster but cool in it's own right. I like the OLP rays and to my mind there's more milage in buying one for not much coin and saving for a Ray if you think it's your holy grail.
I think the SUB bass is more like a porsche 911 that's had paint stripper poured all over it, still goes like the clappers, but not quite as handsome. That's my analogy anyway. EDIT: Though i would say that, i own one

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, lots of food for thought. I probably wont be able to afford to do this particularly soon. I like what you linked to though slaphappygarry. I might just get a decent soundcard, upgrade my PC a bit and get a posh DI box and maybe a cheap set of monitors (my PC speakers are good, but too bassy, better for drum and bass or gaming tbh). I just need something with a few inputs that's compatible with cubase. (I've spent some time learning to use cubase at college and think it's pretty good so i don't want to have to try and learn something else so soon, might get in the way of what i'm learning at college a bit too)

I'll have it man, i love rock and roll autobiographies, i'm reading scar tissue by anthony kiedis for the second time.
you're supposed to set the level of the pedal so there is no difference in volume with the pedal switched in or out...
Aye i do that but i just get the weakest overdrive sound by doing that, i'm thinking of getting rid of it, it only cost me £15.
-
I hate my behringer overdrive pedal for that, it really takes the high end and definition out of my bass and makes it really quiet. If i turn it off it sounds quiet and muddy, and if i turn it's on it's way too loud, so if i turn it down i don't get any decent gain out of it, it's crap.

Based on the fact that that fret king looks like cheap rubbish, i'd go for the ibanez, they're pretty good.

I'm currently on a music tech course at college and i'd quite like a small setup at home just to play about with and to record/mix my band with, i know all the practice and stuff, but nobody really told us what we'd need and how to do it if we were to make our own little home studio. I have a computer with cubase on it, if i bought a smallish mixer with a USB output on it, such as this maybe, would i be able to plug that straight into my computer and have it communicate with cubase, or would i need some sort of audio interface? I'm also planning on getting a pair of cheapish active studio monitors, i'm assuming i can just plug them straight into the desk or something? I'll get some mics for it later (anybody know if the shure sm48s or PG58s and 57s are any good as a cheap alternative to the SM58s and 57s?) as at the moment i can DI my bass amp, or borrow some mics off friends, but mainly at the moment i'll concentrate on mixing. thanks in advance for any advice, and sorry if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it.
I'm going to give the OLP a go the reason i asked is because i have been offered one for £80 from what your saying i might as well take it. Thanks for all your help I might try out the ATK a bit further down the line.
Ah that's cool, i say go for it, pics when you get it?
Cliff Burton - Anaesthesia / Pulling Teeth from Kill 'em All
Damn, beaten. You'll need a fuzz pedal and a wah for that one though. Some cool chordal work and stuff in there though. One i've really been trying to get hold of and failing miserably is the tabs for the bass solo Rob Trujillo played before Orion on Metalica's escape from the studio 06 tour. If anyone could point me in the right direction i would be very grateful

hahahaha what a genius XD I CANT SEE NO COLOURZ!! haha sorry, couldn't resist.
I feel I must report it. The listing is quite clearly misleading. There will be some colourblind people out there who will be ultimately disappointed if they get this.
Methinks they wouldn't see the colours when they got it either, unless they're only colour blind to things on a computer screen
Look out for an OLP MM22. That's the twin humbucker active version like a Sterling. They're not very expensive and really great to play with an excellent sound. Best of the budget basses. Get one before they're all gone now that Ernie Ball has pulled the licence!
+1 The last basses the OLP factory pumped out were easily the best, go for an OLP MM22, much prettier, active, double humbucker, the bridges are the correct size so it even looks like a current ray bridge, the headstocks look a bit goofier, but that's the one to go for. Also i tried Iwtait's dad's ibby ATK and it did sound very nice and stingrayish, i'd reccommend giving one a go.
