1.
the sound is brilliant thats for sure, same 2 band preamp they use in 2 band stingray isn't it?? i reckon it could well rival a proper stingray if you stuck a status neck on it
It is indeed, i think it gives the stingray a bit of a run for it's money anyway considering the price! I've seen people that have had the contours cut, had it refinished and had the neck shaved, and after about £200 worth of work, the only real difference then is the body wood. Though by that point it may have been worth buying a used ray. But I'm still going to get a ray or a sterling anyway. @ ou7shined, mine is a bit sticky, but not like it would be on a full gloss neck, but it's not as nice as a ray neck i think. The lack of contouring doesn't bother me at all when i'm standing up, when i'm sitting down it's a little uncomfortable, but not very. great bass though
2. Ah ok i thought you were beating on them I know what you mean though, the pickguard on mine was first to go, and yeah i know what you mean about the countouring, or lack of and the neck, but as you say, better than most basses in the price range, as long as you pay a good price for one! TBH it's the sound that's won me over. They could have used cheapy electronics and wilkinson pickups or something, but they didn't and they sound like full on £1000 stingrays, and i can't stop banging on about them
3. Actually i don't (all my shirts are black) haha, i'm not a goth, honest
4. Different tunings if you don't want to look silly tuning up between songs, makes you look more pro. If i wanted to play something widdly i might use a musicman sterling or a jazz or my toby, then wanted to play a song using slap i'd change to my SUB or a stingray or something (this is all assuming i have said basses ). Also as you said, as a backup in case you drop and break it, you step on the lead and break the output jack, you knock it on something and break the headstock, somebody spills beer on it, the electrics short out etc etc, it's always worth having a back up just in case, because you never really know.
5.
any reason your upgrading to the bass with the slightly warped pickguard
What? And nobody will buy it for £450, but the reserve could be reasonable. And what's wrong with SUBs anyway?
6. That's really weird... why would anyone want to do that?
7. Ooh that looks rather nice!
8. It seems the seller has lowered the BIN to £350, so it's even more reasonable than before, i'd go for it if i was in the market tbh.... (sterling for me next ) Another couple of cheap SUBs on the bay: £200 starter, reserve, £450 BIN (bit expensive) 99p no reserve!!
9.
The 404 has two Emg's...
Sorry, i meant the viper 54 you linked to.
10. Hmm, is it paper? it looks like plastic if it was paper i'd try rubbing it with a damp cloth/sponge maybe.... might still work?
11.
Well i got to say the the build quality on my ltd 404 is the dog nuts! Worth the money i paid in my opinion...
Aye, but i'd rather have the flexibility of two pickups (coming from a musicman player ) you know what i mean though. @BigRedX, yeah that was me
12. little mark 11? i there were only 10
13.
Thanks very much! I've got no idea where to get one cheap as i payed out the nose for it about £600 if i recall (serious GAS) But if you want an Ltd Viper on the cheap you could always go for the Viper 54...
I saw them, they're a bit TOO cheap, if you know what i mean... And i shall check that out BRX, thanks. Oh by the way, i saw you on the tram yesterday i would have come and said hi but i had my bass on me and didn't fancy smacking all the other passengers with it.
14. Yeah, youtube is brilliant for music, i don't use it for bedroom practice as much, but now i'm anti downloading music, if i want to listen to a track before i decide to buy an album, i'll often check it out on youtube first.
15.
gold hardware is never classy imo, like never, always looks cheap, if a chav ever played bass.... black hardware is always gunna look more classy and stylish the 12th fret thing again, imo, looks so sh*te and cheap, im so glad that my blue dawn is a 2001 bass, and not the 2007 with such a marking on 12th fret
I think gold hardware looks pretty nice on the right bass, EG that one. I've always thought black hardware looked pretty cheap and tacky tbh. I think chrome is pretty timeless though, nobody ever complains about chrome. Also +1 on the 90's necks looking amazing, there's some AMAZING birdseye/flame going on with those like you wouldn't believe!
16.
these were at the london guitar show, the burgundy mist jazzes are cool! i fancied a chrome red precision out of them all though, that was just sooo cool looking!
Yeah i really like the look of the burgundy mist there, looks kinda metallic.
17.
The middle finger on my right and left hands are vital. I do use all my fingers on my left hand and my index and middle on my right, but I find that for me my middle finger on my left hand is pretty key. I’d find it so hard to play without any of my fingers on my left hand, but almost impossible without my middle! How do you manage it?! It’s almost pretty impressive that you do manage it
Exactly the same here, i use all the fingers on my left hand and index and middle on my right, and occsionally my thumb and ring finger. I use my middle finger a LOT on my left hand so i don't know what i'd do without it! same for all the fingers i use really...
As I said... depends what I'm doing
Oh aye? haha
18. I'm pretty sure the current gibson tobias' have the assymetrical necks, my toby pro does. Also The string spacing thing is subjective. I like a closer string spacing on a bass like that.
19. like the colour, don't like the pickguard
20. Here I know how much you guys like them. Pretty cheap and no reserve.
21. Can't stop by the red hot chilis - i'm meant to be recording it for our band project at college.
22. Here Listed at a distinctly average price for a SUB, which is rare in itself, if you're after a SUB and don't want to pay a fortune this might be a good one, though seems a little overpriced, but only by about £50 or so.
23.
Think £699 would be a good starting price on ebay? Looking for round the £700 mark
I think £700 is a good starting price for that. And may i just say that's an AMAZING looking bass there! XB, you forget that what costs $1200 over in america, generally will cost about £1200 over here.
24. Sweet ESP there man, i like the colour on the LTD too, i really want one, any tips on where to get a cheapy one other than the bay? GAK stopped doing them now, they had them REALLY cheap for a while too Also i think those are LEDs because when you zoom in they're red. Unless it's REALLY gothic and he's got eyes in there
25. I really like the new 2008 LE, the colour is really nice and i love the gold hardware, looks really classy, just like the 2005 or 2006, i forget which (the black with gold hardware). And they've been doing that 12th inlay on the LE's for years, since 2000 or something and i think it looks alright.
