When to say 'We're ready to gig'
budget bassist replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
My band has our first gig coming up at the end of august... coincides with reading and leeds festial i believe (BASTARDS), we're not really ready for it yet as we haven't been able to practice all that much recently with festivals and whatnot and we don't know all the songs, but we have a set list worked out so we just need to get it learnt (eaaasy) and we'll be rockin'! but after this week i think we should be able to buckle down and be ready for it by then. I'm rather looking forward to it and it should be the first of many because our guitarist/singer does gig promotion so he can get us no end of gigs. -
fishyyyy he'll be lucky if he sells that, you don't have to be a genius to see through his plot.

Yeah, i find a lot of amps go for absolute peanuts because nobody wants to send them, and hence nobody wants to pick them up. Probably why i got mine for such a steal.
No colour, just go for clear perspex.
Yum, liking the grain on that!
Have you noticed how the description on the site for the fuzzy yellow Ritter doesn't match the actual pictures of the bass? One day if Jens is still able to make them I'll be putting in and order for a Raptor.
You certainly like your strange basses! Kudos!

Ive spent £1400 IN 2 DAYS on stuff I dont really need. Altho the bongo is gonna sound lush thru my new rig If you give me gas im gonna find where you live!!!
Haha sorry If it's any consolation i'm going to have to wait until christmas to settle my gas down
+1 the piezo versions have the lovely metal flake finnish though. Stingray has the stingray tone, unmistakable, stirling has the smaller neck and not as beefy, but still sound great. and the bongo... well, ill tell you tomorrow when mine turns up. Supposedly have a lot more tone variation, 4eq and im getting the HS version with the humbucker and the jazz type pickup.
You can get any model in the metal flake/sparkle finishes, you can order pretty much anything you want direct from musicman if you go through a dealer. Also grats on the bongo man You're right though, when you get a good setup on them, they play like absolute butter, i have the action as low as it can go on my SUB and it feels amazing
This Squier 5 string P is starting at £99. Last time it was on it was BIN £135 and it only choked up to £72 (reserve not met) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=170231455130 I'd wager the Squier would be a lot better than any of those cheapy eBay specials.
The squier P has a neck like a baseball bat. Nothing against squier or anything, they're pretty decent, but i play a fiver and i couldn't even get my hand round the p 5er.

I'm not sure what difference the piezo makes, it's pretty subtle but some people like them, some people don't. Try a couple more out if you can. The difference between the sterling and the ray is, as you said, the body shape (smaller), coil switching, thinner, jazz-like neck, and the pickups use different pickups, i believe the rays have ceramic pickups and the sterlings use alnico, but they still sound pretty much the same tbh. Bongos apparently sound like a ray but beefier and a lot more flexible because of that 18V preamp. If you like a p-bass neck get a ray, if you like a jazz neck get a sterling, and if you want something uber different but essentially still the same sound, get a bongo. I'll be in the market for a sterling myself around christmas time, i wanted a jazz because of the looks and the neck but i realised i didn't want anything other than that musicman sound, so i'mma get me a nice looking sterling
Sorry guys, really can't buy just now & they're very nice looking basses. That Toby looks nice, but I'm having trouble finding a uk shop with em. Where did you get yours?
Nottingham guitar and drum centre, was used though, they went out of production a few years ago, it's worth keeping an eye out on the forums and ebay though because they pop up quite often, particularly ebay.

You're a mad fool! Personally i don't like them, but some nice wood there...
Mine was a 4s Stagg, P/J config, sunburst finish. It served me well, only thing is I was (and still am) a guitar player so I used to play it with a pick and all my bass lines were like guitar lines. Now, I'm still a guitar player but I learned how to play fingerstyle and compose proper bass lines
Sounds like what i had, stagg BC300

haha cool, who is it?

I've played a few and i really liked all of them good luck!

New Squier VMP TB vs used Fender (Mexican) Precision
budget bassist replied to solo4652's topic in Bass Guitars
It's mainly looks, and a different pickup, i'm not sure exactly, a normal VMP will sound just like a beefed up precision, whereas i think the tele sounds a bit thicker... possibly, i'm not too sure. I considered the VMP, but the VMJ has a very nice neck. Also there are sites on the net where you can get a VMJ for £200, type it in on google products. -
tobias toby pro 6 Cheap, neck thru, decent sounding, nice looking and very nice playing i think (well the fiver), a few quality control issues though.
-
Stagg BC300 i borrowed off a friend, REALLY badly scratched up, but it was ok. Then the pickup stopped working and my friend asked for it back. He started sanding it off for his girlfriend who he was going to give it to. They broke up and he sold me the partly sanded bass for £10. I finished the job, varnished it and put some strings on and sold it to another friend for £40. He's still got it and i doubt he'll sell it, so i could probably have it back if i wanted, but i don't really mind.

hmm, not a fan of fire engine red tbh.
