1. Those Vintage modifieds you speak of. Tried about 3 of them, consistantly good quality, well made, very nice sounding, playing and looking instruments, MUCH MUCH better than squier affinity or standard basses by absolute miles on build quality, materials, sound, everything! I also tried it next to a fender jazz bass 24, and while the jazz bass 24 was a bit more flexible and had a higher output, it was twice the price and i preferred the squier because it still sounded nice and in my opinion, played better/faster in my hands. If you want a cheap jazz around the £200-£250 mark, that's THE bass to go for, and a lot of the people on this forum will wholeheartedly agree with most of the stuff i just said (apart from maybe the jazz bass 24 stuff, that's subjective)
2. I REALLY wouldn't buy from that guy. Yes 70's ibbys were good (i think) because they were made in japan, matsumoku (i think) but i wouldn't quote me on that. But i haven't seen that guy sell even ONE reasonably priced item. I think it's safe to say if he's selling something, you could knock a good 25% off what he's asking and that might be a bit more reasonable, but still a bit expensive. Point is, wait for someone else to sell one. There are always a few vintage ibbys on the bay at reasonable prices though tbh.
3. Based on the fact that the guy on here is trying to get £400 for his i think you got a pretty good deal.
4.
hmmmm.....
I've got a pair of MAG cabs man, don't be harsh
5. Haha i think a lot of you could get done for child porn too
6. Oh yeah, i realise that guy could have been a complete twat about the whole thing and in the end i'd have done the same thing, i'd have felt really bad for him. A lot of the time it's those corporate drones at the top that really couldn't give a f*** about the little guy. I know they probably had some good staff in some places, hell i wanted to work there because i was interested in that stuff and i've always enjoyed pointing people in the right direction of good gear and stuff and just being helpful in that sort of way. But pretty much everyone at my local SC apart from the bass guy (scott, who was pretty awesome) were absolute twats and couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery to be frank.
7.
well its been a very successful day. having gone to the salford sound control the new manager there was incredibly helpful and let me take away the ashdown head that had been sitting in the manchester city branch for these past few months. He could have just kept it i mean he was in his rights, so im rather pleased. Finally got my amp!! hurrah if anyone is in that area i would recommend it!
Just followed the thread and i'm really glad you got your amp in the end! Though to be honest, sound control or whatever it's called is somewhere i'm never going to spend large amounts of money again down to my own personal experience, their terrible customer service and other horror stories such as your own. And the fact that they won't be re-opening in nottingham, thank god. I think they should have gone down for good to be honest, i met about one good employee working for them in the three years i'd been visiting it.
Surprised no one has come in yet for the Nottm one, there has been a music store on that site for a long time, there's no other really wide ranging music shop in the city centre apart from an overpriced and understocked place in one of the shopping centres. SC was far from perfect but had the biggest selection in the city.
because it was sh*t and they never shifted stock.
8. I'd show you my semi but i might get banned
9. The MAG series amps don't, never have and never will have valves in them. They're cheap. That's not to say they're bad, there just isn't a valve in there.
10. Hmm yeah, i could be tempted to buy one and sell it on the bay... I can't say i didn't notice that the other day and wonder...
11.
Axesrus...great little site!
+1! excellent customer service!
12. 36 crazyfists.... their new album is awesome!
13. Lol i could do with one of those ipods now! I broke mine, i put it in a locker at download to make sure it would stay safe, and on the monday morning i put it in my bag next to a couple of cans i had left, one of them popped and no more ipod! nevermind, commuting to college is going to be boring as hell now!
14. That's a NICE looking rick! good luck with the sale! And don't forget to contribute a bit in the forums, joining just to sell is a bit rude (not that i'm saying that's what you did)
15.
very nice I'd love a bass with a bit of history - my oldest bass is only 8 years old! When i saw the title of this thread i just thought - I wish i had a 1976 Mustang like that!
Mine are both 5 Though i plan on getting a westone thunder at some point Also is thought that mustang was a short scale
16. i got mine for £350 BIN in pretty much new condition...
17. Yeah i noticed this earlier, if anything it's worth less than what he paid for it new. I don't like EMGs and they're the only REAL mod on there, the rest are just cheap cosmetic mods. And the EMGs are passive anyway...
18. Lol, to be honest i'd rather have a real sterling unless there's some collector out there that's never seen a SUB sterling. saying that though there were a couple on the other day and they went for below £400... You're probably right, probably is shill bidding.
19. Did i miss something??!! link
20. Nice stingray! also i rather like that black P, not usually my thing but that looks rather nice! Oh and if you want to know the year of that ray, just quote the serial number in a thread stickied at the top of the EBMM forums and someone that works for EBMM customer service will tell you when it was built and where it was originally sent to.
21. Nice score man, i love stingrays
22. Assuming the bridge is the same as my SUB bass, which it SHOULD be minus the musicman logo, i used a 1.5mm allen key, though it didn't fit that snug so i'd be tempted to say 1.58mm or 1/16" as machines and hamster said, It's an american bass and the yanks still use imperial...though 1.5mm did the trick. As for the truss rod, assuming you have the one with the wheel at the scratchplate you just need anything that will fit in th holes as the man sterling ball said himself. Just use an allen key, as long as it fits it's fine. And you don't need to take the strings off to adjust it, so you know.
23. sh*t! Someone got a right bargain on that! Beautiful colour! damn..
