1.
It is! I love it to bits, I can't imagine doing much better 'bang for your buck' wise. My only criticism of the dear little thing is the weight - they are not light.
Yeah, i've always said they're not great, but for what i paid (£200) it's fantastic. I really like the necks on them too, really fast! And yeah, it does make your shoulder ache after a while eh?
2. Haha sorry Also there's no fireplace there, just a mantlepiece Oh and that's my bedroom, do you really think my parents would let me put a metallica poster in the living room? ... And the toby pro is nice eh?
3. Jesus christ... that's a lot of basses! And a pangborn, a jaydee and an alembic in a row.... classy
4.
hello Nice glove and lubricant on the right, he he. I wonder what it's for? he he
Haha i noticed that too lmfao lube and an oven glove Sweet setup man
5. hmm, not my cup of tea, it's probably pretty good though, the way squier have been going recently.
6. Well what everyone else has said so far sounds like they were answering your question to me. They're not stupid. And yes roundwounds feel different, they're softer and easier on your fingers, and yes they sound like the sound you're going for.
7. Damn, i really like those fivers, i REALLY shouldn't though good luck
8. sweet! i like it!
9. You already said all that in your first post
10.
Just wonderin'... What's the big deal about a missing fret? What percentage of the bass-playing population consider this magic fret a must-have? Granted, there have been many 'improvements' what Leo launched in 1957, but while some people might prefer to have them, I can't think of any which have become integral to the basic design. It's for a reason.
I use the 21st fret for a couple of songs, aeroplane and scar tissue by the chilis... Also i like to have 24 frets, just because it improevs higher end reach and makes the body smaller, no necessarily because i use all 24. Oh and if i was to live with JUST one bass, it would be a stingray, no competition.
11. That sounds pretty good, good to see you using a ray too
12. Wow, is it just me or is that incredibly cheap? even if it does have a twisted neck
13.
Songs we covered in my old band: Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train Metallica - Master of Puppets Trivium - Entrance of the Conflagration Pantera - Cemetary Gates Pantera - Cowboys From Hell Megadeth - In My Darkest Hour Killswitch Engage - My Curse Dream Theater - Ytse Jam
Sweet setlist! Cemetery gates is an epic song! In fact that's it, it's going on haha
14.
I would stay away from any bass with a twisted neck, unless you're planning to replace it. AFAIK Ernie Ball will sell you a replacement neck if you send them the knackered one, not sure if you can get any third-party necks for a Sterling but if a Stingray neck will fit it you could get a graphite replacement from Status for £300.
Stingray necks are 6 bolt, sterling necks are 5 bolt, not sure about the measurements or anything though, but i doubt it will fit, the sterling is well known for having a thinner neck than the ray, but i don't know if that's just at the nut or what.
15.
For what it sounds like you want you couldnt go wrong getting an Ashdown ABM C210-500 combo and an ABM 115 cab which you can add on for bigger gigs etc. Beautifully big sound.
+1 on ashdown, i have an EB 180 stack and for only 180W of power it's got some real trouser flap! Not to mention it's got a pretty nice tone to it and a reasonably easy to use 5 band EQ and a few other fairly handy controls. I got the EB180 head and the MAG 210T deep and mag 115 deep, managed to get the lot off ebay for £250. With the 210 and the 115 it packs a good punch, it delivers the high end, which i like as a bit of a funk bassist, and plenty of nice lows. I realise i only have the budget kit, so for £600, with a good scout around you could get yourself a decent head and a couple of ABM cabs or the combo and cab as phatbass mentioned for your budget if you spend time on it.
16. Yeah, i can see that side of the argument, which is partly why both of my current basses are active, i'm reluctant to go back to passive but i'm thinking about it. Also those p'ups you linked to are also advertised for £20 in the other musical stuff section on here by a fellow chatter
17. I just made the truss rod on my MM as tight as i could (without pushing it too far) and then raised the bridge saddles until the buzzing stopped, seemed to work for me and it plays pretty nice for me.
18.
Uh, me plays some Mmmmmmetal too... If you count Metallica and Dream Theater as metal..
Course they count, because that's what i play awesome Some good riffs.... the intro to dark eternal night by DT, anything from stream of consciousness by DT, seek and destroy by metallica, lucretia by megadeth. It's all good stuff.
19. Sorry i just don't like EMGs, i prefer duncans.
20.
And you do this at band practice why may i ask?? Fair game at a show, but at practices?? come on! Blend into the background at band practice?? its not asif theres gonna be alot of you is there? If i was you i'd put more energy into writing at practice rather than dancing around like a lunatic just my 2cents worth. -Jake
Some people just get into the moment
21. Just thought i'd post a clearer pic of my new ashdown rig and my two basses... oh yeah and a new house haha Note the lack of the ampeg combo I also like how the angle of the photo covers up the huge hole in the plaster behind it
22. I've only got a cheapy rig... but it's all i've got. But i'd rather people were polite about it, that's what pissed me off.
23. Don't you just love it when you let them borrow your bass amp for a gig to get them out of a tight situation, and they don't even say thanks, let alone give you even a tenner for it? what a twat, he'd better hope he's not in need of one again because he's sure not getting mine!
24.
i tried spinning my bass around my head years ago before i had the sense to put strap locks on it...........and it flew off and smashed my bedroom window, oops, my mum wasnt too happy
LMAO! Also i put dunlop straplocks on my basses, i don't throw them round much but i can't say i trust those sh*tty plastic ones as far as i can throw them.
25. I think you'd be getting more interest if you'd kept the original p'ups in there do you still have them by any chance?
