1. Because it's an ampeg dan armstrong one, not a sh*tty wesley whatever
2. For sale is a brand new pack of rotosound swingbass strings guage 40-95, i got them free with an amp and i don't like the guage, the sound of rotosounds and they're too long for my musicman. I've only had one out the packet to see if it was the right length, and it wasn't so it's not been cut down. Ideally i'd like to trade for a set of ernie balls either guage 45-100 or 50-105 or similar, brand new. If not, they're yours for £10 posted.
3. so that's over $2000 for a STANDARD american p-bass that, let's face it, ISN'T vintage, has seymour duncan pickups, a new pickguard that's widely available, contrary to what he says and a sh*tty paintjob that isn't particularly intricate and won't have cost another $1000. Oh and let's not forget the blue strings!! "I spent a hundred man hours and a lot of money on this project" Yeah right mate Then he starts comparing it to the hendrix V and the van halen frankenstrat which are ALL official custom shops. What an idiot.
4. mr foxen has dibs on the harry potter train, but i still have the board game
5. Man, if only i had £700, if only!!! That's a great price, just realised i linked your auction in the ebay links section too, having thought £800 was a good price, well £700 is a great price! i'm surprised it's not gone yet, if i had the money i'd be all over it. Good luck with the sale!
6.
ha! it was me giving you a history lesson on all things tobias in another thread a while back! anyways, yeah cheers mate, and once again to be the pedantic git i am, this grendel was made before the whole MTD company brand name thing was sorted... hence why it doesn't have an MTD logo on it.
Ah sorry, forgot it was you haha. Us tobias lovers should stick together! nice pair though mate
7.
not in the current market mate ebay wise sub for about £400 stringray for about £550 do the math
There's a sub on ebay now for £350 BIN, and where can you get a ray for £550????!!! And most rays i've seen on ebay haven't gone for under £700, there's the odd one that does but ya know. IMO i wouldn't pay more than £350 for a sub and £700 seems good for a ray... but that's just me. And to keep on topic, i'd go for the SUB personally, best of the bunch, but also more expensive, the VMJ is equally good for the price i reckon, as i'm trying to get my hands on one. I wouldn't bother with OLP personally unless it was the tony levin 5.
8. Well there's this sub currently at 99p no reserve or £350 BIN (which seems reasonable enough) And this bongo 5HH at £800 BIN, sounds like a bargain to me
9.
grab an OLP, sub seems a bit expensive at the current market for you, and tbh for a bit more than that you could buy the stingray, the real thing. i did always despise the lack of contouring of the SUB, great sound but uncomfortable. OLP's sound great, and they have the HH versions now
A bit more? Try double the price!
10. As people have said, it's a buyers market, but someone will come along and find it and think "That's THE bass!" and snap it up, it's not often you see one like that to be honest, and i think £800 is a great price if it's in good condition, particularly in such a rare colour. Good luck mate. As i said, give the EB forum a try if you haven't already, no disrespect to this one but it will get more attention there.
11. Take it to the ernie ball boards, it will get more attention there because of that finish... that and it's a musicman
12.
You got any lego technic stuff? I'm planning on making pickup winder, and I need a few more bits, like those black rod things.
Nope, sorry, i did have some but that went to the charity shop
13. Sweet basses man, i got me a tobias toby pro 5B custom and they're exceptional basses for the money. That grendel looks pretty sweet too, though i'm a neck thru man myself. Also that's an MTD grendel just so you know, MTD is still owned by Michael Tobias whereas Tobias was founded by him and is now owned by gibson, two entirely different companies, very similar basses though.
14. The SUB all the way, it has THE musicman sound and active pickups which none of the others have, awesome basses. I have one, though i am currently considering adding a squier VMJ fretted to my collection.
15. I love playing funk, but i had to get into it. Each to their own, you've moved on, i don't play rock/metal as much as i used to. I don't like jazz, yeah i agree jaco was a good bassist, but he doesn't influence me in the slightest, it's all up to your personal tastes and that shouldn't matter.
16. Cheers for organising it moody! was a good laugh That pedulla was hot! Also the 5 string ATK was pretty nice, had a really nice growl to it
17. bump, just as an addition to this discussion, i'd like to say, as i'm moving house tomorrow, my bedroom is pretty much empty. No clothes, nothing, just a bed, an empty chest of drawers and an amp. I was just playing and noticed a wolf note on open A that i've never gotten before. Seems a lot of things can cause wolf notes that aren't usually the bass itself. Also goes to show how you need lots of sh*t on your room so it's not echoey and stuff, not a problem for me, i have tonnes of sh*t
18. No worries check the MM website for all the colours by the way, they've got some really nice ones! I've tried a couple of SUBs, a couple of rays and a sterling, and the sterling sounded lovely, felt really nice, good size, really good string spacing (i like it nice and tight), but the neck felt a little fat front to back... i'm not sure what i'd have to be honest, but i know i don't want a bongo. I'm planning on trying to get either a ray or a sterling by the end of the year though.
19. The photo in that first auction is actually of a 21 fret neck... so he said it was a 22 fret neck, took a picture of a 21 fret neck and sent you a 20 fret neck... what an idiot!
20. good stuff, and i'm pretty sure the screws that came with the one with the wooden block were alright, just the ones with the metal plate that aren't, but they're meant to be mounted to wood, not into the wall.
21.
I'm thinking of some how getting a Musicman, if I ever get the funds for one. But I was wondering, which do you guys think is best, their all around the same price as well. I'm mostly looking at the Sterling at the mo, just because of the coloured headstock. What do you guys think? Thanks
You can get unpainted headstocks on sterlings too. You can also get stingrays with matching headstocks. Order through a dealer and there's so many choices. You can order a ray and choose: paint colour matching or unpainted headstock pickup config: H, HH, HP, HS, HHP, HSP scratchplate colour EQ size (2 band EQ is just a boost, 3 band is boost and cut) fretboard wood (maple, rosewood, or fretless, which is only available in pau ferro) fretted/fretless lines/fretless blank 4/5 string You can also order a sterling with the same choices or a bongo but they don't come with a maple board or non-matching headstock and i'm not too sure about the EQ, they also do a 6 string version of the bongo. If you want the classic musicman sound, look and feel with a bit of a p-bass neck go for the ray. The sterlings have smaller bodies, slimmer jazz-style necks (which you might like as you have a jazz) and apparently sound that little bit tighter. Then there's the bongo, with an 18V preamp it's monster and VERY versatile i hear. So take your pick. BTW i didn't read any of the other posts so i'm probably repeating some stuff.
22. I don't own an ibanez, but as a general rule i tend to boost the bass and boost the treble, though not quite as much. That suits near enough any sound for me, metal - funk. Sometimes a bit more of a bass boost for metal.
23.
In over 3 years of playing bass, I have NEVER bought a new set of bass strings! I just like that rotten sound Don't your parents get child benefit until you're 19?
haha me too, i change them about once a year, or whenever they make my fingers smell like rusty metal
