1. It depends which one you got, the screws that came with the one on the wooden block i thought were pretty decent, but if you bought the one attached to the metal mounting the screws are really short, too short to go into a wall. With that one i used some long screws to screw a block of wood to the wall, then used the short screws to screw the metal plate to the wooden block. Safe as houses. EDIT: in fact you can just see what i did in the photo. On the right is the one with the block that came with it, on the left is the home made block (wow, could i get any more boring?)
2. I don't think it's worth getting a £120 case for a £350 bass tbh. If i had a ray or sterling or something then yeah, definately, but not for a sub. Also aren't solid flight cases really heavy? Though i did see a really nice aluminium one for about £80, looked really nice actually. Actually here it is, not as nice as i remember... maybe if the aluminium had that diamond plate pattern, that would look really cool. I may get a warwick one some time though, stick the musicman in that, the tobias in the gator and i'm laughing. Does the warwick seem stronger though at first appearance? I know you've not really had a chance to use and abuse it yet but ya know... also what colour did you go with? i really like black tolex
3. I know what you mean. £30,000 a year is good pay, but only if you don't have kids! My parents are broke near enough and are now collectively earning more than that (though my mum isn't living with my dad so i still get EMA, yet she still gives me money for stuff, and before you say anything that's perfectly legal, again blame the government . As i say, everyone should get it. And it can be hard to get a job, i applied to about 15 different places a good few months ago and didn't hear back from any of them.
4. Just out of interest, how much do you guys reckon it would cost a luthier to fit abalone dot fret markers the same size as the original plastic ones on my tobias?
5. It is difficult, but i;m of the opinion that if anyone is to get it, everyone should get it. And yeah i suppose it would be unfair not to give it to those with a job as that's their choice. But some people really do need it. If i didn't get EMA, all my money would have gone on feeding myself. My parents give me so much money per month and it doesn't go nearly as far as they think it should. That's all the money i got went on, i rarely bought clothes. with EMA, i know it's not educational, but at least i have money for clothing and other things, and educational things. Plus it's nice to actually be able to buy yourself something nice once in a while right?
I say, let's overthrow the planet. Anarchy will reign for about 10 -15 years, then, when all of the politicians and leaders or the armed forces have been executed, military technology has been reabsorbed into the mainstream, so as to bring us up to speed with what's really happening, we will live through a very interesting period of lawlessness and bartering. In this total reconfiguration of human society, there will only be two things that will have survived from the old ways, cockroaches and students.
close enough
6. Does the cat come free with it?
7.
It's Education Maintenance Allowance - if your household income is below a certain level and you're in further education (bursaries are just for higher education), you get paid £30 a week or in some cases more... I think - here are some of the reasons I think it's ridiculous: 1. It's generally spent on luxury items rather than anything to do with education such as books/stationary etc 2. A lot of the people who get it actually have a higher household income than they declare, because of benefits or untaxable income or whatever... same goes for most benefits, really 3. The student gets it rather than the parents who are supporting them 4. In a lot of cases, they really don't need the money and could just get a job 5. My parents earned just above the threshold so I had to get a job to afford my basses - yep, I'm biased
EMA is a good thing IMO. It does get spent on luxury items, but a fair bit of the time it's helped me out for important thing when i've had no money. I agree, i think everyone should get it (apart from kids with jobs) because when my parents were earning good money (just over EMA limit) they could never have afforded to give me £30 a week, now my mum doesn't live with us and my dad was redundant for the best part of last year it was pretty handy. But that's my two cents there.
8. withdrawn/sold to a friend
9. Padded waterproof westfield gig bag with straps and handles for carrying in your hands or on your back. Large pockets and good condition. There was a rip in the bottom but i sewed it up pretty damn tight with carpet thread. £10 + postage or collection. I can post photos if anyone really wants it.
10. Yeah i know but EBMM OHSCs retail at about £120 they may be good cases but i doubt they're £120 good.
11. ooh, she's a beaut! grats!
12. schweeeet
13. Yeah they're great, they should be wide enough for a 6er, it takes my 5er pretty comfortably. Very solid, that tobias is very heavy and it seems to take it well.
14. My sub didn't come with a case (bought used with a pretty hefty gig bag), hence having to buy a gator and maybe a warwick case. And would a 5 string toby probably not fit then? neckwise that is
15. It makes the really loud stuff a bit quieter and the really quiet stuff a bit louder.... basically. Actually i may have to see if i can get myself one... the difference in volume between fingerpicking and slapping drives me nuts sometimes, i might get a noise gate too.... hmmm
16. haha sure, give me a PM after friday if you still want it, i may not be on for a few days but it's yours (how old are you? )
17.
Only BC Rich bass on ebay recently was a knacked Warlock. Although there may have been a Virgo on recently. I'm too lazy to check, just got in from work
Nah there was something old with thru neck on recently, i think it might have been a wave or something, can't remember what.
18. Wow, great deal. Those yamaha BB series basses actually sound really nice, which i find quite upsetting as they're so damn ugly!!! But hey if you like the looks of it go for it! Good luck with the sale mate
19. Yup, I honestly don't think you could find a better bass for £350
20. Does it fit most standard sized basses like the gator case? say... a musicman... or a tobias?
21. I'm moving house on friday and i just cleared a cupboard out and realised there was loads of kids board games and stuff in there that i don't use (i'm 17 now) and i won't have anywhere to put them in the new house. I can't remember what a lot of the board games were (there was a harry potter one), but there were also a couple of smallish meccano sets which are now mixed up so you can't really just take one, and the same for a couple of lego sets, one of which was the harry potter train one and an insect one that makes noises and all that jazz. They're mixed up but i still have the instructions and most/all the pieces, so if any of you have kids that want them (or you want to feel young again ) i'm in the nottingham area so come have a look if you want. Alternatively if you paypal me a few quid i'll send them to you once i've moved as they're currently all boxed up. I also have a fair bit of fishing gear that i'm selling (rods, nets etc, some good gear) so PM me if you're interested. Mods, if you don't find it appropriate, feel free to edit that last bit out.
22.
Hmm, suddenly I have my suspicions about when Shockwave mentioned a dream bass appearing on ebay. It ticks all his boxes.
Nah, it wasn't that, it was something else, i forget what it was called. That's if he was looking on ebay UK anyway.
23. £122, not too bad!
