Basses: Musicman Amps: Hartke Both of those companies have ethical policies, products that don't cost an arm and a leg, and if you really really want to, you can talk to the head honcho (Sterling Ball and Larry Hartke respectively) to clear up any issues. I bet a lot of the smaller companies are similar, but wont fit into your 'affordable to the gigging bassist' category.
Yeah, musicmans are still fairly expensive to me, but for something of that quality it is fairly reasonable, a match for a lot of custom shops. Plus i really respect sterling for actually talking to his customers at any given opportunity on the forums, makes the whole thing a lot more personal. The company is actually a lot smaller than you might think! (PS is sterling his real name?)

I know this is BASSchat but i don't want some poor sod to lose out. This guy listed a 'gibson' explorer and it's clearly an epiphone gothic with the headstock and front shaved. Can a few people report this just to make sure it comes off please? i don't want someone to bid on a gibson and recieve an epiphone. If anybody is unsure it's clearly an epi gothic because of the ebony board and inlay. Now look at the inlay, only the epi has the XII 12th inlay as in the listing and here. The gibby gothic has a half-moon with a star inside it. and again here The guitar in the listing is also clearly much lighter than mahogany as the epi gothic explorers have spruce tops, the gibbys are solid mahogany. So be nice and report it? please haha i feel a bit sorry for the bidders

I love the top on that sei! nice looking piece of wood there! I also really like the tobias, i just love the body shape (hence i have a cheap one myself) - would appreciate some closer photos of it Nice collection -
Fender Japan, warwick and stingray among others
budget bassist replied to gafbass02's topic in Gear Gallery
Yeah the white jazz is nice and just to be different i like the black sparkle on the ray! (bit of an EBMM nut here!), also the flame on the VMJ neck is really nice, surprising to find on a squier tbh! nice gear -
Nice wall, i find guitars are better for decorating a wall that pictures, bah! (no seriously, i have guitars on my bedroom wall instead of posters/pictures ), not sure about those skinny stringers though nah just joking. Nice explorer though. My guitarist has a gibby one in black with black diamondplate and EMGs, factory original. Really nice. Good luck with the sale Free bump

Dead spots? the bass may need setting up, i'd advise having a pro do it.

red hot chilis aeroplane anyone?
-
Some of my favourite songs to play are most of the stuff from blood sugar sex magik by the chilis, some of my favourites being if you have to ask, mellowship slinky in B major and i forget the name of one of the others haha. Also aeroplane from one hot minute is really fun to play
I sold a teal sub bass with an abalone plate for 300 quid 18 months ago. up to about 350 is ok for them imo. the not very nice textured finish and lack of detailing is too much of a no-no above that price. it played and sounded as good as my 2 band Stinger I had before it though
Yeah i know what you mean, they really are slabs... i wish mine was contoured, but what you gonna do? And yeah the textured paint is weird but it does look nice if you catch it in the right light (check the bass porn forum). It does play and sound as nice as a ray though, that's why i love it so much (though the neck finish on a ray is nicer tbh)
I cant help feeling that the SUB stands for sub standard!
Not for the price! (what i paid anyway - £350 BIN, bargain)

reminds me of an ibanez SR.... and damn i love my ebony boards!
-
I prefer the sounds of my toby to the sound of any ibanez i've ever tried. Way over-trebled and too much string rattle. Admittedly i've only tried up to about the £450 mark, but that's the same range as my toby and i know what i'd rather have.

Hmm having just looked at this thread i have to say i'm predominantly a rock/metal bassist. John myung is epic and rob trujillo is pretty cool too (love his stage presence). But yeah...

There's a fair few guitar shops on denmark street, i'd expect most of them to be able to do it for you if it's as simple as you say.

When did someone put a big notice on BC saying 'Sell Here'?
Anyone who doesn't bother to take the time to introduce themselves and become a recognised member of the forum is shooting oneself in the foot really, because I for one wouldn't buy from a Newbie with no feedback! But anyone who does want to buy from such unknown entities will surely appreciate this service?
I'm the same, once you get talking to people on this forum and hear their opinions you tend to form an impression of that person and a lot of the people that post regularly on here are really genuine. I just don't trust a few of these sales where the seller has literally just joined and not even posted yet. Particularly when the item for sale is on ebay too... that's when i leave them alone! -
thats exactly the problem i have with mine, it sounds more like a superprecision than a musicman. cant quite understand the pup placing as peavey were quite clearly aiming for a flea bass style
Yeah that's what i was thinking, i'd love it if the pickup was in the musicman sweet spot...
-
Its been on evil before a few months back.. assuming its the same one, cant be too many of these flamboyant flea like basses about id say.
That must be why i like it i'm a huge fan of flea, and now you mention it, it does look very flea-ish, if only the pickup was a bit closer to the bridge
-
That looks pretty cool, be sure to have a go with a bow man, i tried that on my musicman once, lots of fun
Yes. A dead spot is a note that is not as loud or does not sustain as long as other notes. Wolf notes are notes that are louder or sustain longer than other notes.
Yeah, i was just pointing out that it only happened with that amp though.... ah well
