1. I rest on the pickup or the low E depending what i'm doing, i don't really pay attention to it to be honest.
2. Wow, they are good, love the zeppelin covers, he sounds worryingly similar to robert plant in places.
3. Have a free bump on me, i have a pair of these monitors and they're really great value and sound really nice, good low end response for such a small monitor.
4. I don't even need to press play to know that i'm instantly going to dislike that video. Bass solo my arse.
5. i used to slap a bit when i was too young to know any better, now i rarely bother unless playing along to a chilis song!
6. hah, i think maybe he put an extra zero in his price by mistake
7.
If anyone knows, it'll be Budget Bassist. I'd be interested to know too. Notwithstanding the logistical shortcomings, you can't fault her initial motivation. Frankly, I made far more mistakes at her age, without any of the good intentions.
i totally forgot about this, yeah i didn't really ask her about it, apparently they raised a bit of cash which is good, though i never actually heard how the night went....
8. wish i actually had a space to record drums..... and a drum kit..... and i could actually play drums! XD
9. yeah i learnt that bassline a while ago, it's a great song, just a shame glee covered it, i've not heard it though and i don't plan to.
10. yeah i used to have one of these, the neck really was amazing
11.
There was an explorer on eBay last week. A white one if I remember correctly.
There was a really nice white one on a good while back except a huge chunk of the end of the bottom horn i think had come off but had been glued back on... i so almost bought that, think it only went for around £500 as well. I'd love to have one.
12. that bubinga still for sale? i cannae see a price on it, no chance you'd post?
13. yeah what rich said, jon shuker is a one man operation in a shed and the only thing that isnt' custom about what he does is the body shape, and i daresay he would probably do a custom shape anyway if presented the right plans, just like someone on here did with iceni/zoot/whatever the hell they're called.
14. oh lordy that's a pretty bass!
15.
Surely when you're playing on stage there should be an element of "Look at me!" to your performance that extends to your choice of instrument. Unless of course you play on a nearly completely darkened stage in which case it doesn't matter what you choose...
I thought bassists should be neither seen nor heard, according to popular belief Obviously i joke, but i wouldn't want to be seen on stage with something totally crazy looking. I don't dig the generic precision/jazz look, but i wouldn't want to wear something sparkly/pink/fluorescent/something else crazy either... (unless i was in a funk/disco band!?)
16. these scammers really do make themselves far, FAR too easy to spot...
17. yeah i didn't like the pre in the last active fender i had either...
18. trading my corvette $$ for a stingray... big mistake!
19.
Garlic, a crucifix and holy water?
Nah, but i'll have the men in white coats standing by
20.
I think if it suits the music and the other musicians, particularly the guitarists, it can work. Best with a guitar on clear and maybe the other with modulated effects or even an acoustic. 3 distorted instruments playing at once probably wont sound like much unless youre slightly deranged. Generally I dont really like to hear distorted bass.. thats why I bought a Trace!
lamb of god and machine head's bassist both use fairly heavy overdrive (i think they both use sansamps) and it goes really well with the music, yeah it doesn't cut through the mix amazingly sometimes, but it just blends together really well. Bass doesn't always have to be heard on it's own.
21. i used to play in drop tunings a lot, get some heavier guage strings and play on your bridge pickup, that should sort it.
22. i use it on my ABM a fair bit, mainly because when i bring in the valve drive, it boosts some mid frequency that i just can't find on the EQ, but the drive isn't really obvious, i keep it fairly low. A good valve overdrive really does trounce a digital/solid state overdrive circuit though.
23.
+1 from me. Recently switched from Rays to Warwicks. Had a Rick 4003 as well, so I can make a comparison to all three makes. I found the Ricky neck quite good but the body was uncomfortable for me. The Rays were/are great basses, still like them. But for me the Warwicks edge it on playability and tone IMO.
Yep, exactly the same here, i liked my stingray and SUB, but my warwicks just had nicer necks (IMO), smaller bodies, which i prefer and had the edge on tone IMO, so for me it was a no brainer. I like the sound of ricks, and the neck on the one i tried was alright, but i just don't get on with flat tops with no curve, particularly if it has binding
24. i've only ever had people ask me to play my instruments first, and i usually trust them, so i say yes - no drunk punters etc. I've had people in my bands just pick it up and start plucking, but they're good friends and i trust them by that point (and i always have strap locks on ) so i don't mind too much. I'm fairly protective over my instruments, if it's someone i don't know then i won't say yes, but a couple of dings never hurt anyone (especially on a natural finish 'wick)
