Barefaced Price Increase - Are They Still Worth It?
Ultima2876 replied to Ultima2876's topic in Amps and Cabs
10 Guinea Pigs?!?! That sounds amazing. They make the best sounds. Agree with every take in this thread. It’s a shame that it has to be that way, but also Barefaced are a great company and hopefully this won’t impact their sales. I personally am the proud owner of one Big Baby already and have another in the works. -
Thread title! What does everyone think now that they've had a (pretty dramatic - £180 so 20% on the Big Baby 2) price increase? As their email says: Not something that can be helped really, but regardless it'd be interesting to hear what people think generally and whether the consensus is that they are still a good value proposition?

I did spend quite a while reading and researching yesterday, and I’m strongly leaning towards taking this off your hands - still not quite 100% yet as I’d like to be really sure We are thinking of doing an IKEA trip near Exeter soon. Do you think that’d be a good place to meet? It’s free parking and just off the M5. We can take it to PM to figure out the details if you’d like also. Thanks! -

Just wanted to register interest in this and maybe get a temporary hold on it if you're happy to do so? I'm in Plymouth so it's not too bad of a drive to get to Exeter for me to meet half way - just checking and doing some research to see whether the volume will keep up with my current rig (ABM-500 Evo II, but I don't exactly rag it - only run the volume at about 1o'clock). -
I have a MIM Geddy and it's a beast. Plays like butter, sounds great and the fit and finish is perfect. I haven't tried the American Geddy but the MIM one beats out the MIA Standard J/P basses I've tried every time. And it looks SWEET (Strings are DR Blacks)

Awesome, thanks! I'll try some P-basses. At the moment I'm playing a Yammy BB415.

Hey all, So I've been tweaking my bass tone recently and there's a specific type of tone I've heard a few times that I can't figure out. Basically, it's really obvious in the verse of this Foo Fighters song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHbX3ukV6dI In the verse, about 34 seconds into the video. It has a very harmonic-rich 'ringing' tone, almost with a high overtone in the bass. It just sounds super rich and sweet, especially on those lower notes. I can't even really figure out how to describe that sort of tone, let alone how to go about achieving it! At first I thought it might be some kind of compression trick, but listening to compressors in action I can't hear anything that would hint at it being able to bring out that sort of sound! Any info or advice appreciated!

Thanks for your fast response! I've done some further digging (along with stringently checking their site) and found this document speaking about changing the diamond inlays: http://www.bandm.co....90#.UmBbRJTXQwY I've also found a couple of similar looking Faith guitars on eBay (Saturn ones): http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2ecb03d295 http://www.ebay.co.u...=item565b77ade8 I found these pics from an early 2003 brochure on their official facebook site from way back when it first started: https://fbcdn-sphoto...284189271_n.jpgand https://fbcdn-sphoto...761631683_n.jpg I guess this more or less confirms that it's just one of the first guitars they made. In my mind that makes it all the more special! Thanks again for your input!

So I've just purchased a second hand Faith Venus that was originally bought from a music shop in 2005. After buying I've been googling a bit to find out more about it... but now I'm not sure if it's real or not as I cannot find any Faith guitar that looks the same (ie has the same inlays/rosette design, preamp, binding etc). I was hoping someone here might be familiar with Faith guitars and be able to confirm whether or not what I have is the real deal! Pics: http://imgur.com/a/wCEE2 Thanks!

LS-2 has two channels I think I'd still prefer Big Muff + LS2... modularity rocks

I ended up getting a 212MBE (8 ohm) for my Ashdown ABM500. Couldn't be happier, it sounds f***ing fantastic, loud and relatively portable. I'm planning to get a second 212MBE soon if they're still available - not because I need to (one is plenty loud), but because I feel that at £200 I might as well future-proof my rig. So yeah, my ABM is running at 380w into one 8ohm cab, and the volume lingers at about half way on the amp (with input at about 2/3). That's plenty of volume for me at the moment. For bigger venues I can DI/mic up. If I were to get another cab, it'd be running in 4ohm mode, so around 575w, divided between both cabs - about 280 watts a piece. They'd easily handle that at full whack - but I'd never ever need to turn it up that much. Not unless I somehow end up doing a stadium tour - at which point it'll be a moot point because I'll be able to afford a set of Barefaced cabs and a second ABM500.

I quite like the BDI21...

I just use the cheapo Dunlop plastic ones. "Lok Straps" I think they're called - £2, and have never failed me. Been using them, oh, 6 years? Doesn't require modification of the guitar either.
Dang, I was going to PM you this evening about it! Never mind, another one will come along no doubt.
Why not just get a new one from Thomann - £200ish delivered?
I love my bass big muff just haven't worked out getting it to cut through the mix live yet
I had the same problem. The solution: This setup (that's how I have it set) will allow it to cut through. Bonus; you can tweak it to get all kinds of different fuzz sounds. I'm setting mine up in an effects loop through a LoopMaster pedal so I can treat the two as if they're a single pedal for switching purposes and not have the MXR EQ affect my clean tone.

I actually found it better to learn both at the same time. Bass requires a different mindset to guitar and physically they're also fairly different, but quite complementary. For example, thick bass strings will quickly give you calluses which helps with guitar. Fingerpicking on bass improves right hand coordination which can help with guitar. Just make sure you practice each separately for the same amount of time that you would practice each if you were playing only one. Don't do half and half, because then you just end up being half as good at two instruments instead of getting really good at one. So if you were planning an hour of guitar every day for your practice routine, don't do 30 mins guitar, 30 mins bass. Do an hour of each.
Feeling a lot of love for the Bass Muff on here.
Hell yeah - there's a reason it's popular. Cheap as chips, sturdy as heck and sounds great.

I might do this and stick 'em on etsy or something.

I think the guy is just trolling There's been loads of valid arguments in here for getting an amp first. In fact, I can't think of a situation where you'd want to buy a hella expensive cab just to sit and look at the pretty speakers until you can save up and get an amp to run through it... derp. It's kinda like saying "screw buying a car with crappy tyres guys, you should totally get these amazing racing wheels and then buy the rest of the car later"

I have the Yamaha Guitalele; got it as a christmas present from my girlfriend last year! It's lots of fun, but it doesn't hold its tuning that well. I even tried changing to some high quality strings but the intonation is still pretty sloppy However, its nice to just whip it out and jam a little!
