Bongo's just got hit with the ugly stick! j/k I actually really like the look of them, but then my wife tells me I have weird taste (don't think she gets the irony in that!)...
ha ha Bongos are beutiful! she sings! Ella Fitzgerraled was not the nicest looker of the bunch, but has a voice to die for........like my bongo. ;-)
 2. peg all the way............................................
 3. nice i bet this will be better than the fender. That had a terrible buzz on it.
 4.
the only thing im really suprised at these basses is the resale value. At the same retail as a Ric 4001, I dont understand why these basses dont hold any value, even though they have an amazing finish and very advanced electrics. The Ric will still demand over a grand s/h!!!!!!!!!!!! I for one am still exploring all my tones that these basses have on offer and look forward to each rehearsal because its like using a new bass each time. The 18v circuit is a monster and the HS pup config has everything I need. I love these basses to bits and im sure it wont be long before everyone jumps at them
personally i think these basses have had a bad start in life, but i think they are becoming more and more accepted in the bass comunity now for the tone beast that they are. I think also more players are using them now and that will creat more interest. Look at the wal bass 15 years ago bass centre could not shift them at £700 now look.
 5.
Just wanted to add, the bend in the strings behind the saddle is ok. Its not going to be a issue. Also, dont forget the strings are all different thickness's so even if the strings are all in the same (centre) grooves it might still look odd. I find the best way to adjust the string spacing is to let your fingers dictate where they go, not your eyes. Im getting a vintage bridge put on my P as at the moment they are all equally spaced and it doesn't feel quite as comfortable as my HW-one that has a BAII in it.
to me it almost looks like an optical illution. The e-a does look a wee bit wider than the d-g, but i think its due to the windings of the string itself on the e string.
 6.
That Bongo looks even better in that second video
thanks, its a great color and a great spray job a-la BMW :-)
 7.
Just out of interest how did you record the video n audio?
good question The kodak zi8 hd camcorder is the only one that has a mic input. I searched for ages for a camcorder with a mic input as its the only possible way to get decent audio on a video without having to sync up vid/audio. So i have a small soundcraft mixer into which i di the bass and the cd/mp3 player hit the record button on the kodak and thats it. Iv done 4 with it now, and really pleased. I did a gig the other day but fooked up as i had only the vocals come through, but even in low light it gives great results. All for £90. But i think its discontined but amazon are still doing them. No other camera has a mic input. The flip is not a patch on the kodak zi8. I also did the suspitious minds vid on it too on you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZNHUqNw56g If you watch it just plugged into a tv with the supplied HDMI lead the quality is amazing far better than when loaded onto you tube. Rich. ps for monitoring i just use the headphones from the desk so no external sound.
 8.
I think the title says it all
for me the p never had enough varity. The jazz is much better but i prefer the P neck as the jazz is very thin at the nut.
 9.
... errm ... doesn't the Bongo have lo-mid/hi-mid, and not mid/mid sweep controls? At least mine does ... br, Matthias
is it i thought it was a mid sweep. the outer ring. Thanks for telling me.

 11.
Yeah, but only from this site, never seen one in the flesh, just saw it in a way id never seen it before
Its funny everytime i saw this bass i walked right by it, cos of its shape, then i thought lets try it. That was that really, and now the shape has grown on me big time. Its very alien like! Now the big al i really dont like the look of but once again i heard they sound amazing. But this time i will keep walking right by it. Cant afford another one!
 12.
Thanks Rich, sounds great! I am eyeing up ordering a Bongo 5 HH..and the more I hear the more I edge towards the order. I know what you mean about the responsiveness. A light touch gives huge sound with my new Ray 5 HS, so I can imagine what the Bongo is like! Im glad it is not a skinny Jazz type neck. Part of my reasons for not bonding with Jazz basses is that my hands cramp a little at the nut...I feel I dont have the room I want to play with. I imagine I could get around this and get used to it, but Precision necks always fit straight away, as do Stingray necks. I like the comments about the fit and finish. I think they make an excellent bass at EBMM, especially for the price point.
yes thats true i have the same problem with skinny necks, thats why i like 5 and 6 strings, but imquite happy with this neck. In time i may upgrade to a 5 or 6 string version, but at the moment im reallyenjoying this bass.Still deciding on string gauge. I have lights on but i prefer a little heavyer strings maybe 40-45-100. s
 13.
Thanks, I've been looking into one of these. Which model do you have?
Hi i have the hh 4 string, you can see it on the vid. Its funny but i never liked the stingray sound, but this is like a P bass a jazz and stingray in 1. I dont quite know what the single pickup would be like, but the hh is very adaptable to any sound. The only thing i will say is that they are very responsive, so u have to have you technique in good order to keep it clean sounding. The lightest touch give you sound. I have always been pretty hot on damping the strings while playing, but i would say this is not a very forgiving bass. The neck is not skinny like a jazz, i like that, i cant do skinny necks (both female human n bass) and it is very fast. The tone unplugged is a little like a graphite neck (i dont like the tone unplugged) but plug it in and wow. I also an a 5/6 string player, and was not sure about a 4, but it seems strange in that it can give you the same depth of note in the low register so i dont really miss 5. The fit and finish are of the best i have seen and the spray job looks very BMW. I have a BM so can relate to the bass desighn. If you look at the new 3 series you can see glimses of it in this bass. (BMW desighned the bass) Comes with a nice hard case. we have vol/mix/mid/mid sweep/bass/treble. I just keep it all on flat. It also has an 18v preamp. Its quite a beast of a bass i must say. Anything you wish to know please ask, Rich.
 14. i have been through a few basses but i have to say i have never had such a great all round bass. If you are looking for a high end bass, i would give these a good look. I think they look stunning, and they are made superb, with great balance and super neck. My one still needs a set up for me, but as it is it plays great. 15.
No problem. For what its worth your video clip is the first time ive heard a Bogo in isolation, and im very impressed with it. I hope this doesn't mean the dreaded GAS is on its way again lol.
ha ha you put bogo, and i put bingo! (but spotted b4 posting!) whatever its called.....bog seat?? they are awesome for any style of playing. Slap is just amazing. :-)
 16.
Yeah, mate, Jerry is an amazing player, i recently saw the tcb band, but nathan east was on bass as Jerry done his wrist, but hes back on form. Of course Ronnie tutt is i think the best drummer in the world. His music was so powerful for the day.
Ps this is great too, great sound on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2f6Iw5NnR0...player_embedded also i did this by plugging the bongo into my little soundcraft mixer, nothing else in the bass chain, so thats the natural sound of this bass. they are fantastic basses, and then took a line right into the koday zi8 HD camcorder. U get great audio this way, and not too expensive. The camcorder was £90.
 17.
Nice work mate! Personally I LOVE his playing on this classic version....
Yeah, mate, Jerry is an amazing player, i recently saw the tcb band, but nathan east was on bass as Jerry done his wrist, but hes back on form. 18.
Very nice playing, and nice tone. Much better than my efforts recently. One question, and please dont take offence. Are you using the wrong spelling of Suspicious as some sort of play on words?
he he yep, my spelling is very bad, thank you for pointing it out, i will put it right. (ill copy ur spelling!)
 19.
Ive always thought the bass playing in that live version just hits the spot I do like the look of the bass in that video also, it looks like it could also be used to fend of aliens
You must know what bass that is?? musicman bongo, im sure you do. Yes it is a little more upto date then Jerrys fender P bass. Thing is they created such a powerful sound using basic gear that they had at the time. TCB band still rock, as does Jerry.
 20. Playing bass in the style of Jerry Scheff. Very high energy playing this sort of thing, but its what Jerry did with Elvis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZNHUqNw56g the site below is great cos you can get backing tracks and they come with a little mixer to remove the bass or anything from them Rich. 21. Anyone looking for a good little hd camcorder this is done with the kodak zi8. What makes this camera a treat is it has a mic input for great sound reproduction. This video is just an experiment and im pleased with it. Line direct in from the v amp. These cameras are not made anymore, but you can still buy them. No other camera had the facitity to put a mic line direc in. If your looking to do this (i need to for the band, duo and website updates) this is a great but at under a ton. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHYf-z_H4pg Thanks.
 22. try a new strap. I have the one thats very padded and strechy, takes the weight of the bass. Could also be your slouching, this will put alot of strain on the lower back. If you stand strait, the bones line up and are stronger support.
 23. heres me playing live, there a few more on that link too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrxM8ur05aY...re=mfu_in_order bad sound though, but you can here what im doing fine.
 24.
I'm a beginner looking to buy a bass and i've got a budget of around £300 I was looking at either the ESP LTD B104/154DX (which I managed to find pretty cheap at £330) or the Ibanez SR300 I'm probably gonna play a whole range of styles but mainly fairly heavy stuff (possibly drop tuned) as well as more funky/bluesy stuff. Any information on either of these or any other bass you'd recommend for around the same price would be a huge help. Thanks
i have an esp 6 string 206, and i can tell you it is amazing for the money. Way better than a squire in tone and build. I also now have a bongo, so im guessing the esp will now go, but i recomend highley.
 25.
I might be splitting hairs here but "...as well as you are able" or 'as well as you want to' There seems to be two distinct types of technique being talked about now. Having suffered muscular problems in my back I would agree that paying attention to posture and hand/wrist action is esential. However, the technique I originally intended this thread to be about is that of the amount of ability one has at playing the instrument. A number of examples of those without great flourish to their playing have been given. These players do fit so well with the music they play in though.
If you have good tech then you will play better than bad tech. I use my whole right hand to pick, damp and play the notes, and always keep my left hand relaxed and the one finger freat thing. Its just how i have learnt and touch wood, 30 years on i have no back/wrist,elbow probs, and i would say i get around the freatboard fairly well. I just dont think you can play smooth with bad tech. if you drive a car badly, one day you will crash.
