3.
I still don't know what the big deal about water cured redwood is.
It is extreamly rare wood. see here.............From harmony central. Spector Offers Special Limited Edition Water Cured Redwood Burl Basses February 4, 2008 Stuart Spector Designs Ltd is offering a very special limited edition of handmade Spector basses. These basses are handcrafted in the Spector workshop near Woodstock NY and will be limited to an edition of 24 pcs. The body wings on these neck thru body basses are carved from rare water cured redwood burl. This wood is derived from the stumps of redwood trees that were cut down 100 years ago in northern California. These stumps were completely submerged in rivers for the last century and have recently been salvaged and obtained by Spector. The flow of the river water for such an extended period deposited minerals that have hardened the wood and deepened the color to a rich chocolate brown. In addition to this all the sugars have been washed out of the wood enabling drying to be done in the same fashion as the traditional preparation of violin woods. Each instrument will be accompanied by a special certificate signed by Stuart Spector which explains the special nature of the bass and lists it's place in the limited edition. The bass requires our clear high gloss finish (900.00 list), and will deliver 4-6 months from month of order.
 4. £2000 Can be posted but best done F2F. essex.
 5. Morning guys. Its good to see your comments, and i do agree that if someone wants to trow a spanner in the works on somebodys sale, then they should rais their points via PM. Ok we all agree that £2000 is a good price, and that is what it will stay at, I had an interesting call last night, so this may be sold today. I will keep you updated, but at this point in time it remains available at £2000. CAn be sent via next day, but of course this is better played and seen in the flesh. Kind regsrds, Rich.
 6.
Here's the link to Bass Central - http://www.basscentral.com/spector/usa_th.shtml#5string Their retail is $6300. After 33% discount that makes £2999ish plus shipping. THAT'S A FACT. However, my point was only ever that you can't use US prices as a guideline, which you do continually, as there are too many different factors involved. Tomorrow, the US economy could crash, exchange rates could go to £1 = $2.5 and then a brand new one with shipping and tax from the states would cost about £1800. We weren't far off this 5 months ago. I was never trying to harm your sale for a special reason as I will explain in a moment, but instead trying to hammer home the point that the US market has NOTHING to do with pricing over here. It would have been easier if you just said "I paid X number of pounds, and want to make X back due to wear and tear, or lack thereof". Now the reason I took an interest in this thread from the first moment of you posting the first thread, is a chap I'm acquainted with in Wales has one of these and was thinking of selling it but was wrestling with the idea as he desperately wants to keep it. He was going to be asking £1800 off the bat, which he thinks is about right considering he only paid £2700 for it off Thomann a while back when the Euro was very low - they imported a couple or three of these basses, I remember seeing the item on their webshop at some point. I didn't really want to steam into the original thread and point this out but now you've asked me up front, that's the fact. Whether he sells or not is up to him though, you may see him sign up on here if he can't find cash from another source.
If your mate wants to sell his for £1800 thats up to him, as this is up to me, now people google in WATER CURED REDWOOD and see what happens. I can only go on the us trade cos that is where you get them. In Thormans now do not have this listed. But as i say its my tread and my sale! TAke the challenge people google it, and see what you get, also look at the price that my freind is quoting new from the shop he says and see what they are saying, then see if you can find a shop that has one on the wall. Please place your votes below!! ha ha Anyway off to do a gig, so will look forward to all you guys on bass chat who read this looking forward to your findings, and also your opinions on people commenting on other peoples sales treads. Regards, Rich.
 7.
I looked here last night and wasn't going to reply but seeing as you edited your post to be more patronising I thought I might as well point out that you've missed the point completely. Music123 is overpriced, it's a fact. You can get one of these brand new from Bass Central for £2999 plus shipping and tax, NOT the £3950 you state. However if I go on some other US website and pick a price off there I'll get a different figure. Ditto if the exchange rate changes. Your entire policy seems to be basing the pricing off the US market, which in my experience with Spectors (being an endorsee and everything) is just pointless. Not if it was already overpriced by £600 I wouldn't.
As said the price for this bass is £3 900 at present on the web. Their are only 24 of these in the world matey! ok so its pretty unique. People who wish to buy this will look into it, and they will see that this is correct. This is underpriced at 2k by £600. Now show me another example of this bass new or 2nd hand under £3500 other than mine and i will agree but till you can point us all in that direction, i think you should keep your opinions on other peoples sale treads to yourself. As i said you have a chance to prove me wrong, past a link here maty. I think at 2k this bass is cheap, and at £2,400 it is right for 2nd hand. Now if i wish to sell this at this price, it is up to me and not you. you say you have seen it at £3000 plus shipping and tax means about another £800 on top. I have looked at bass central (the shop that you are quoting £3k from)and they list it at $6700 and email for price. So how do you make it £3k? Can i also make one simple suggestion to all reading this google Spector NS5 XL water cured redwood and decide for yourself on the price of this very special bass. Infact, you get more results for this bass by googling water cured redwood ....dont even mention spector, that is how rare the wood is on this bass. Regards, Rich.
 8.
Some sort of Jazz Bass ...possibly Jap Fender or Squier.
Squire do a vintage modified jazz that has a nice slap tone, or they also do a delux active again very good. There is also the little cort that has been built for slap. Rock basses are ok and the yammys are ok too. I would look in the 2nd hand market and go for an active bass.
 9.
Does the bass come with the original Spector case rather than the (all be it very solid) Warwick Rockcase? Is the letter of authenticity from SS actually a certificate stating that bass #220 is the Ltd Ed water cured redwood bass? I only ask as the one on eBay is #224 (3 basses later than yours) and yet was made 3 months later. If the basses aren't numbered as per a particular Ltd run and run consecutively does that mean he only produced 3 basses in 3 months or is that number just for 5 string basses? Curious as to how he numbers his basses... time to go and Google.
Hello, yes i have it sighned by S spector that this is 15 os 24. Dont quite know how the numbers work though! These are hand made, and the word from S,. spector is their is only wood for one more bass!! Best thing email spector, they are very good, i did that and got loads of answers, but best ask any questions direct as they know this bass well!! Regards, the case, i can get the original Spector case, just this is more safe for a bass like this, as i do gig it. Will post letter of authenticity today or in morning, Regards, Rich.
 10.
Sounds like you want your old Status back, mate Rich.
As per convo, And £1000! hope your well mate!, anyway, as said, the sound on this is second to none, so not missing any bass, if i'm honest!
 11.
It's only worth what people will pay, and what people can afford. You keep mentioning the US bass on Ebay being £4000, but that's only £4000 because the exchange rate dropped recently. As little as 4 months ago, that auction would have been £2999 - does this mean if the exchange rate rises again you will drop your price? Also that auction is a little overpriced, Bass Central have one of these listed at a retail price of $6300, so their real price would be substantially lower - probably closer to $5200ish as the Spector retail prices are a generous margin indeed. This is a conservative estimate as they usually knock 33% off retail on Spector's, and the Spector retail pricing structure is universal throughout the range in terms of trade cost to RRP. This would mean that a brand new version of your bass from Bass Central would be $4158, or £2917, give or take a hundred quid - and that's using the current (poor) exchange rate). I don't mean to hamper your sale, but going by the US-based prices, especially on Ebay, is in my experience completely unrelated to the UK second hand market.
Hello mate, now before trying to hamper other peoples sales, i would get your facts right, and leave people to sell how they feel fair . Right! The RRP form spector is around $7500 (nearly £5000) the discounted price is $5600 or £3,950. see here http://www.music123.com/Spector-NS-5XL-5-S...324679.Music123 Now none of the shops claiming to have the bass, have it! You are quite right regarding the $ against the £, but remember other than this one, the only place you will find this bass is in America, that means not only paying top dollar, but also importing over here! I think that this is the only one in this country.and number 15 of only 24 ever to be made. Now its simple, 1st, i have had alot of interest in the bass, understandably it is a very special bass and not cheap, "nd i have lowered the price to make a sale. If i decide that i am not desperate to sell (which im not, ) then if i wish i will put the price up to what I think is right. As commented 2K is a steal for this, and if you see it, you will agree. Now i'm a good chap, and lowed the price hopeing that it will be more affordable, check it out. As i said this is very very special. To me its worth every bit of 4k and to be honest i'm thinking of pulling it, cos it just about blows every bass i'v played away, both in sound and looks, IMO. So in a few days time this bass will go up to its correct price (IMO) of £2400 or removed from sale, cos its so rare and so nice, and i will kick my butt if i sell it! If you was to go to your bass dealer and the bass that you were after was reduced by £400 for one week, would you moan? or buy it?
 12.
If I can get the cash for a trade we will have a deal......if not, good luck with the sale..
Hi well keep me posted, and if you wish to see it as i would yours, then feel free to come to essex!
 13.
Gotta be honest mate, i very much doubt you will get a sale on this if you raise the price like that, if its worth £2200 or whatever it is your raising the price to, you should have had it like that from the start. You cant get a sale at £1900, so you raise the price by £300??? Confuzzles me a little!
At the start it was £2800 I'm giving people the chance to buy a bass that is worth far more than the value as i know we are all in hard times, BUT if it does not sell for that price, then i will eighter take it off or leave it at £2400 and even that is well below what its worth.
 14.
Is that the parrot you can't see in the cage under the table in the photos...?
Ha ha parrot has huge cage and is mostly out of it (the cage) Thats his travel cage. Price goes up cos this is worth much much more than im selling it for, and after this week, i will not be in a hurry to sell, and thinking the later months will bring more fortune to us all, so more money. This bass is worth at least 3K New they are at 4K and will stay there cos its so rare.
 15.
MB1. Blimey!.....I misread that as "Dangling Parrot"?... BUMP!
Haha ! i quite like the look of that sandberg custom on ere!
 16. I have heard a few, and played, and they seemed to vary in my opinion. Last night i was trying out an overwater perception delux and it was nice, but the corvett $$ that i compared it to blew it away, IMOP. Had much more balls, and a nicer more full tone. I found with the O/W turning up the bass control made it sound wooley.
 17. Ok guys its plain that many of you wanna get your hands on this. Right im open to trade, cos at the end of the day. will need another bass. NOW you can buy me the one in my mates shop (CC) for £950 and then add 1050 in cash, or you may have a satus headless, SEI, warick $$ sandberg, overwater, fender usa delux jazz a hand made job. Looking for something in as new conditon and at least £1000 depending on what you have. (if something really special can take less than a £1000) OK this bass will now be sold at £1900 (no OFFERS) CASH !!! can be bought by credit card at £2200 this week only, after that it goes to £2400 and will stay there. The price now on thie ebay one is close to 4K. Of course any deal will have to be done f2f but i'm sure that you would agree this is the wy to go. Right come on lets see your offers! Im gigging all weekend but will be looking in the days and will be on moby on 07957300029 for a chat. Free sunday if anyone wishes to see it. RICH
 18.
I wish I had the money for this...I've been wanting a 5-string again for a while now, and Spectors are at the top of the list. I can only offer me 91' Thumb NT as a trade bait right now... £2000 is a crazy good price for this bass. Again, good luck with the sale!
If you lived in this contry i would consider it, and a cash adjustment. Ok i tried the bass i was mad about before, and its not as good, no where near as good as this, BUT i am open to trades, and £1000. at least. I am looking for a warick $$ in like new condition, or anything hand made perhaps overwater (not mad about the dark wood finish) the new vigers, or a Status headless a delux 5 string jazz (usa) , a top lakeland or sandberg again as new (like mine) I have decided not to bay it, and i have to see the bass in the flesh, as you mine.
 19.
Happy Birthday! And it's my partner's tomorrow - Spector! just what she's always wanted. I know where she'll shove it if I buy it. 4000 - you'll get me into trouble! I'll reply to your PM in a day or two - sorry for the delay - I'm (i) massively overworked, and (ii) spending far too much time looking at this Spector. I'll feel better when it's gone and I'm able to return to a normal pattern of behaviour.
Thank you, and to you partner! mate you can tell her that you can make grand profit on this!! call me for a chat! Its my B'day today! i'm not near the pc at all from 9am, meeting friends etc, but please feel welcome to call re anything to do with the bass, Rich.

 22.
+1 My last purchase was a New American Standard, from Soundslive so I didn't even try it. Its the dogs dangly's. I also have a 62 RI P which is beautiful to play and i will never sell it (I once said I would never own a P bass). I have a Lakland DJ4 which is also gorgeous but its different to the Fenders, slightly more modern sounding. Of all the studio work I have ever done I have only ever been 100% happy with the sound once, it was a Jap Fender Jazz. I sold that and I really wish I hadn't. I just sold a Kingbass because I grew tired of the clinical sound and found it lacked warmth when used with my original band. Its just a matter of taste, I'm sure there's a Fender out there for everyone.
I bought a Fender 08 P. bass off 'Out to play jazz ' off here (pictured) Build quality on this was A1, sound quality of finger style was A1, looks was A1. slap tone F. But for a passive 1 P/U bass it rocked. The neck was exellent as well, and came with a solid skb well made hard case.
 23. Whatever is in the bass i have now (see sig) is the best preamp i have ever heard. Somehow it brings out the sound of the expensive wood of the bass, rather than to electronic. You may as well have a cricket bat with a set of pickups, with some of the preamps fitted on basses. The Spector sounds the same unpluged, as it does plugged in. That, i have never had before in a bass.
 24.
So, was he playing his Lakland?
I saw him with the lakland, he also had a p bas on stage.
