1. ha ha the knobs are heavy chrome and they are underneath the pick up, they call them groove knobs, they are very accesible when playing. I will post pics tomorrow, but she gets her first outing tonight! will keep you posted. I really dont think i can get more, this is the last one in the contry so i belive.
2. I picked up a RKS flightcased brand new with certificate and letter stating that it is very low serial number usa made a-bass! Paid £500. This rep that came in wanted to shift it and offered it to us, so i bought it. It has futuristic looks, and playes and sounds amazing. While its not eveybodys cup of t when you pick it up n play it, it makes sense! It gets its first gig tonight. (5 string by the way) These sell for around £1100-£1500 but i bought it to keep, as i think its so cool! I also can get a dean b2 blomberg sig for £400 pand p included in black. I have one of these myself, and b4 anyone says dean, take a look at the reviews on it, i think you may be impressed. I have warwick but they dont sound a patch on this thanks to the fishman p/u. Any one wanna c photos and is interested, email me, i can get 2 and at this moment are available. £400 includes next day parcelforce 24 they retail @ £699 im essex based.
3. Many years ago, i went to see D Dun along wth the blues bro band from the film in town and contry club, kentish towm, they were supereb, and done all the classics from the film and more. When it boils down to it, Mr D is what bass playing should be. I know and love J.P J.H and the rest of em, but at the end of the day a bass is to work between the drums and the melody to bind the whole thing together, thats what he does with style, and coolness, and surley thats what being a true bassist is all about! Just my veiw!!
4.
+1 We had a wedding cancelled as the bride was crushed in a horse fall, they were willing to pay and we were entitled under the terms of the contract. We refused payment as it was clearly beyond their control and things were bad enough for them without bills for things they weren't going to get. We have also had the opposite where people thought they could just ring us up and say "we've changed our minds" we were successful in saying "uh, actually you can't"
Agreed. As i said before, if it was a major event that happened to the family, i would not dream of charging a penny. All i can say is at least the guy who cancelled was honest with me!
5.
Christ, never mind his day being spoiled by a crap disco instead of a good band, I worry more for his future life with a ma-in-law like that!
Ha ha do you know what i acctualy said to the guy, who was so nice, are you sure you are doing the right thing!! really hand on heart iu asked him. His reply-when we are alone (i asume the bride to be) they get on well.......................god poor sod!
6.
Thats an interesting variation, I wouldn't be surprised in that case if a CCJ (county court judge) would actually award you the full fee on the basis that the wedding is going ahead and it's mere whim that has led to the cancellation. (can't be sure though) Whatever the result I think its and interesting example of how these things should be carried out. Cheers Jake
If they would have cancelled within 14 days then the full amount would be liable, but i really felt for this guy as he really wanted us but has been bullied by the in law to be! Anyway, it shows that all major events weddings etc should always be contracted to safegaurd both parties, and this is the first time in 8 years that we have had a cancellation of a wedding, and im glad i had that in place. Thanks for the objective support, and in hind site i guess i could have asked for the full amount. But if they dont send the £300 ( i know he will though) then as far as we are concerned, the engagment is still on, and we will turn up to play their function!
7. Jake, if we do cover the gig which will be a pub and of much lower pay, then i will send back £100 and that is if we get a gig. We operate on a contract basis that if a party (and in this case the brides mum took over and decided they want a disco instead after being booked in our diary for over a year, and cancelled with 3 weeks to go) then they will pay us half the balance if cancelled within 6 weeks of the engagment. These are our terms and the contrat that we use have been downloaded from the mu website that they sighned and agreed to. If the cancellation was due to a major event in their life (death etc) then out of compassion i would not take a penny. But a meddling mum in law has decided that the bridgroom is not a capable person, and took the matter of entertainment in her hands, (he was in charge of booking entertainment, and in his own words, 'the bride and her mum dont think i (he) is capable of arraging that') went to a wedding fair, and booked a disco. No one feels more for that guy, cos he would have had a much better night with us! Now belive me Jake, i would much sooner have done the gig than to sit at home, with £150 in my pocket, because i love what i do, and we are good at it as well, and of course i will activly look for a replacment gig, but thats more about doing what i enjoy than the money.
8. In the last few days we have had a wedding cancel on us just 3 weeks to go, and in the terms of our contract they have to pay us £300 (half balance due) to realese from the contract. That is winging its way over. I guess for a duo its ok, but would have prefered to do the gig, but no dought we will replace it with a small gig.
9. i have an a bass in red, the sound, tone and thin profile of the neck are quite amazing. They look weird but when you pick it up and play it, i think they start to make sense! The shape grows on you as they are comfy and the neck is made in a way that you can access all the top frets much like a stieny. It one of those basses that gets a comment whereever you go!
10. hi did you mean when i was playing it in the shop?? I did email you re bass lessons, and still wish to do them if you do. I have already sold the jag, its a great bass, but the one you have is cool. If you still want a lesson email on [email protected] that day was too early for me to make! HOWS the mark bass amp? what did you think of the bass merchant? i like working there, its a cool place to be, Rich.
11. we had a cracker and it was an 80th b'day!! I also had a new pa system peavey 2x15 in each cab and yamaha emx501cx cracking set up. Beats carrying top subs and 2 amps! pictures on website on photo gallery tab www.bsharpduo.co.uk

14. HIi i am thinking of getting a corvett double buck. Has anyone played / got one? what they like? thanks guys.
15. Lovely bass and the punchy tone. Active and in exellent condition, in cool black. Comes with fender tweed gig bag (that was an extra and does not come when you buy the bass new) and all paperwork, and tags. Can be sent parcelforce 24 or collected from witham in essex. I have had this bass for a while, but need the cash for other things. Price is £400 for bass n case and £10 to ship. can take pay pal, but prefer cash on pick up, or cheque. PLease call 07957300029 for more info, Rich.
16. slapping is cool. Im doing a wee bit here http://home.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...ce-5e1528bd2dfd (if it works on the vid page) It takes time and a certain amount of pain! start just by hitting the e string to a steady 4/4 beat and then the a string then alternate. I think the tone is really important too, cos a good tone will make you more eger to persist with it! good luck.
17.
I'm bored, bored of playing the same tunes over and over again, i want something new to learn but i can't think of any songs that i don't allready know, i like playing rock, metal etc. can anyone come up with some suggestions, nothing rediculously hard like yyz etc. but challenging
Chic stuff, great lines.
18. great condition, boxed, with gig bag, rack ears and manual. Very light, great sound, very strong, great nick, photos can be emailed. Have downsized to a combo, so no need for it. Best thing is look on the ashdown site for full specs. Sell for £100 and £10 for next day parcelforce 24. any questions 07957300029 essex based.
19. wonderful condition and playability levinson b15 blade 5 string bass. This bass is as new in every way, not a scratch, ding or buckle scatch, and plays and sounds superb. It had a great write up in bass guitarist, and harmony central. Im asking £450 and this will include ritter gig bag, and next day parcelforce 24. Reason for sale is that after years of 6/5 string basses, im going back to the old 4 and have recently purchased a warwick, which is now my gigging bass. This bass needs to be enjoyed and played, and at the moment its ot getting that. It has a great low action, and fitted with new ddarrio strings. The build quality is second to none, and is a very comfy weight. It has an ajustable mid boost, and that fender growl and much ,uch more. It has that vintage funk tone, as well as modern punchy fingerstyle tones. The bass can also be collected from witham in essex. for any questions feel fre to all on 07957300029. I have this advertised on a couple of sites. This is a genuine great quality bass and is a great price, so dont think too long on this, it may be gone.
20.
I done this to my Warwick Streamer Standard in early 2004 when I was playing a few 80’s tribute gigs with my college on the Isle of Wight. I was significantly pissed and found a skateboard in a bush but I had my bass on my back in a gig bag, so I jumped on the skateboard and… I’d like to think I’ve learnt from my mistakes having acquired some considerably more expensive basses than a Streamer Standard (rrp £360ish). I managed to get it fixed for 50 quid in a local shop and it came back looking spotless. I couldn't believe it. This bass is now retired from playing and is tucked up nice and safe. It won't ever be getting sold because of emotional attachment (it was my first 'real' bass), but don't know if I'd be able to get anyone on here to buy it anyways after reading this . Has anyone broken a bass worse than this?
Ouch! did you get it fixed?
21. How do you cope when you're not having a good night but the audience are enjoying themselves? Grin, bear it and crank out 'Mustang Sally'!
Just close off to it, and think of the pay, or maybe what your gonna eat after the gig!! Or try your best to get into your own plaing (very hard in the situation, ) but sometimes the situ can turn around, just by the energy that you put out while playing. I have found that this happens some times. Its like they see your doing it and it gains respect (sometimes!! )
22. I guess for me its staying alive as long as poss, and one of the reasons is cos i love playing, and entertaining, (www.bsharpduo.co.uk) and i guess i wanna do this for as long as i can!
23.
It could well be the other way around... that the 'madness' can drive you to have talent. Bipolar patients often also have OCD symptoms which could well cause them to practice to an extent that's vastly excessive compared to the rest of us.
wow never thought of it like that. life is a fine balance. I guess no matter what level your at, its really about enjoying what you do, and what you give to others when playing.
24.
IIRC, he threw/dropped it out a window and it got run over by a taxi. I think he says something about it being away getting repaired in his instructional DVD... I might be wrong. This bass, and another Jazz, later got 'stolen' some time before he took a holiday at Bellevue Hospital. Given his mental state, the fact that he was often homeless and reduced to begging for food in this period, and the fact that he often left his instruments unattended and at least once had to buy back his bass after giving it away, the nature of the theft is open to some interpretation.
That is so sad, and brings it home just how anybody no matter how talented can lose control of thier lives. But then like the painter, i think to have that much talent, and having to live with it (what must be going on in their heads ) could drive you mad, as what seems to have happened.
25. I had two, friday was a boozer in kent, that was a really cool gig, and saturday was in burnham on crouch, essex, that was a birthday party, the birthday girl was trashed from the moment we got there, but it was also a really good night! I also used my levinson blade 5 for the first time, with my new korg ax3000b fx, great sound. Very different to the fender jag and corvett that i use. Its cool to have 3 basses that sound so differewnt.
