Mrs2611 and I made a concious decision a year or more back to not use Amazon and to shop with the smaller shops wherever possible, yes, we have to wait a little longer and pay a little more but hopefully it will keep the smaller retailers on the high street, paying taxes that go towards our much needed services and hopefully benefit us all down the line, Amazon pay little or no tax, pay and treat their employees poorly, sadly they are very good at what they do, hence why they are so popular and easy to use!

The original post states that the item had been relisted as the seller had already been messed about once?

Is this the weakest line up ever for Glastonbury?

Always loved the Cure's recorded work but have never been that taken with them live but I am enjoying tonight's set and it is nice to be able to hear the bassist, as I might have mentioned once or twice on here I really don't get Thunderbird basses at all but I have to admit is sounds really nice in this context -
I use a small squirt of silicon spray on to a cloth and then a quick wipe of the back of the neck before I go on stage, it certainly worked yesterday!

I was tempted but thought it was too expensive this time so I am off the see the Levellers at the Roadmender tonight instead

Complete twaddle on the internet - who knew?

I like it....how to bake a cake.....buy some ingredients, commonly used in cake baking is eggs and cat food however, if you fancy something more powerful you can replace some ingredients with cement....put ingredients in the oven.....eat cake, simples! I always think things are made too complicated nowadays...do we really need to know about electrocution or fire risks! -
Trade value higher than sale value. I don't grasp the concept.
Roger2611 replied to Bobby D's topic in General Discussion
I sort of get what you are saying, maybe the seller didn't really want to trade and would have preferred a cash sale but thought rather than just sit on it (as times are hard cash wise for many at the moment) maybe a trade would be considered, personally I would have offered up the bass you wanted to trade and see what the seller came back with, if you felt the offer didn't represent a fair trade you negotiate or walk away? -

Compressor yes or no. If yes, which one?

I think it really depends on what you are playing on a song by song basis, in Yodaclub where I am using a Precision or a USA Stingray Sub straight into a Mark Bass LM3 I found the MXR compressor strangled all of the expression and feeling out of my playing, both me and the rest of the band hated it so it was sold...In the rock band Saving Amy, again a Precision into the LM3 I use a Boss GT6 effects pedal and find I use compression on most songs as the bass seems to have more punch with it in place...whether that is down to there being two guitars to contend with or just the style of music, I am not sure...so same set up, two different bands compression works for one and not the other. I don't use compression when actually recording the bass as I can't see a need for it at that stage however it will be added at the mixing mastering stage and for that I use a "TRacks" software compressor which is brilliant and gets used for drums, guitars and mastering....I have a nicer software vocal channel strip for the vocals. -
Fit a Jazz neck, my favoured gigging Precision has a Mexican Jazz Neck fitted, fortunately I have no issues with "gnarly" joints but a Jazz neck is just easy to play, sadly you're a little far away from me otherwise you would be welcome to come and have a play!

Or you could use a standard 13 hole plate, cut off 3 pick guard screw heads and glue them into the holes that don't correspond with the holes in your bass, that way you can use whatever guard you want without needing to make extra holes in your bass....I have done that with my road worn which has sported a black 3 ply and a nice 3 ply tort guard,,,,but is back to original gold at the moment.

I wonder if it is just a Jazz bass thing, I find a Jazz very uninspiring sounding when I am close to the amp, yet I hear one at normal gig listening distance and it is a different beast all together, I pretty much never gig my Jazz as I am not confident I will be able to hear it onstage unlike a Precision, but on the rare occasion I have gigged it people have commented on how good it sounds.....does that make any sense?

I took a big fat Gretsch 6210 on holiday to Cornwall with me a few years back as the day we came back I was booked to play a festival in front of 6000 people, so I wanted to just run through the songs whilst away, Mrs2611 took some lovely photos of me sitting in the sunshine on the veranda of our chalet strumming away, it gave Mrs2611 time to do her writing so we were both happy. Take the bass with you, there's bound to be a little down time available where you can put in a bit of practice whilst she drinks Pina Colada's?

Based purely on aesthetics I prefer the maple board bass, to me it just looks more expensive than the sunburst bass IMHO

The ultimate short scale!

My trouble is that I would have ordered one and by the time it arrived I would have traded the amp head, sold the bass, changed to a different stomp box and the new stuff would not fit... That's GAS for you! The case looks great BTW
-
On the other side I put an East pre-amp into a Sterling Ray34 and was unimpressed with it, probably better than the original but not the improvement I hoped it would be! Surely a good pre-amp will happily cope with with all styles of playing? I put a Glockenlang into my Bass Collection 802 and it sounds ace, however the original didn't work at all so anything was going to be an improvement!

It's funny, I was talking to friend of mine this morning who had just come back from the Coventry gig, it was the first time she had seen them despite being a fan as a kid, she was waxing lyrical about the whole experience!

I had messaged him much the same as others, but couldn't remember what the brand was, Musima is not a name I recall but I remember having a cheapy copy with the big wheel truss rod adjuster.

I found it on Ebay and emailed the guy pretty much exactly what Bassislife 16 said, he came back to me with much the same as above to which I replied £200 tops! Boy, we are good on here!

On first glance the sunburst finish on the body looks correct for a genuine Fender finish of that era, looking at the guys description and feedback he looks like he knows what he is doing and reading through the spec for the rest of the bass it is probably a decent price, I am not sure he will get that for, what is, a bitsa bass but I bet it makes a really nice instrument.
