1.
I absolutely hate dancing queen, so IMO you can only improve it. If I could have my way, a metal cover would be ideal. Get every copy of the f***ing song that exists, including digital, bury them as deep as you can & pour molten metal into the hole, covering every copy there is.
Nowt as strange as folks! Having grown up with punk rock I still absolutely love this song and think it is probably the best song written since the heyday of the Beatles!
2. Wow my YOB bass.....now where's that spare five grand I left lying about
3.
Slightly OT, but we have an ad blocker and I've noticed a recent increase in the number of sites that can detect when you're using one and won't allow access to their content unless you turn it off. My response: "Fine, I'll get the information I need somewhere else."
Totally agree, I have been struggling to find an ad blocker that works on Firefox as Adblock seems to do nothing, I have just switched on the Mozilla Adguard which seems to work a lot better
4. Black and Tort is a classic combination, do a quick Google search for "Black Precision" the first image that comes up for me is a Black n Tort bass
5. First gig circa 1985 Aston University supporting (appropriately) a band called Stress! In front of about 1500 people, they were number 12 in the charts that weekend I got up that morning and they were on Breakfast TV which did nothing for my stress levels! We got to the venue and did the soundcheck I played everything in double time as my hands were shaking so much, I had never heard my bass through any kind of PA let alone that of a proper big venue! The rest of the band were far more experienced musicians than me and they were extremely nervous which again did nothing to settle my nerves. I went on stage with a Westone Thunder 111 fretless and a Carlsboro Cobra 90 bass head and a pair of non discript 1x12 cabs, after the 4th song my bass stopped working....I stood there like a lemon until a guy ran on and swapped my lead! I still have the gig on tape I still play it and I have never been nervous again about going on stage irrespective of crowd size and up until Yodaclub I still think it was the best songs I ever played on
6. Gutted, as others have said, he was a huge inspiration and his songs have featured in every covers band set I have ever played in.....RIP Tom
7. I brought a mint 5 stringer a couple of months back for £190.00 and that has a truss rod that works as well! There are not that many about but those I have seen tend to sell for £200 / £250
8. I got a couple last time as well, both still going strong!
9. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OLP-Tony-Levin-Signature-Stingray-5-String-Bass/322738257645?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 I know these are decent little basses as I have one myself but currently £435.00 and with a potentially dodgy truss rod.....I think there maybe some iffy bidding going on!
10. Just had the same thing twice today, I am running Windows 10 and accessing the site via Chrome, went through task manager and closed Chrome down that way
11. I decided to try my hand at playing the recorder many years back, I must admit I had learnt to play it at school so was not a total novice, anyway after a couple of minutes my cat jumped on the bed and bit me! She was never one for biting, a couple of weeks later I could see her lazing around up at the top of our close, so I picked up the recorder and started playing again, I watched her charge down from the top of the close, through the cat flap and straight into the bedroom, knowing what was likely to happen I had discarded the recorder on the bed, she jumped up and attacked it......it was confined to the loft the following day, she is long gone now but I have never played the recorder since!
12. Cheers for the comments guys, I will now give you a review of the new Alfa Gulia, you will all be thrilled to know that 2 Mark Bass 2x10 Traveller cabs will fit in the boot side by side....here ends the review as I think I have covered all the important bits now!
13. Thanks for your suggestions guys, I will take a trip over to Bass Direct and give the cabs a spin, I will also have a looked at the Barefaced options, the trouble is the Gulia boot opening is a real post box affair, I am not even certain the PJB cabs would fit through the aperture so I may be wasting my time in considering the car at all
14.
You won't get heard at all what with the Alfa not getting you to the gigs Sorry, love Alfas really, just couldn't resist!
You could well be correct hence taking one as a company car so I don't have to meet the repair bills! To be honest I have heard nothing but good things about the new Gulia
15. Hi, Any recommendations for Phil Jones Bass cabs, I need to change my company car later this year and the new Alfa Gulia is available if I want one, now my Octavia will swallow a 4x10 Mark Bass cab alongside a 1 x 15 Mark Bass cab, however, the Alfa will most certainly take neither without a fight and damage being done to the car so it is either case case of don't have the car or swap my bass cabs for something even more portable.....I really like the car and I hear good things about PJB gear but will it really emulate the Mark Bass rig with a couple of 5" speakers? Rog
16. The weight has always put me off, I remember reading about a collector who had two, the "light weight one came in at 15lbs the heavy one at a back breaking 22lbs!
17. I find TAB useful for getting an idea of what the bass line should be but it is frustrating how many times TAB that is given a good rating for a song when it is clearly incorrect!
18.
All the good songs have already been written. Now its all dross, has been for years.
Sorry Dave, I have to disagree, there is some fantastic new music out there if you look for it, The Temples, Mystry Jets, Ghostpoet to name but a few, of the older more established bands The Charletons are writing some of their best ever stuff at the moment, they may not be doing a style of music you really like but there is still some great new music coming through
19. I used my CMI Rick at a rehearsal last night it was horrible to play and true to form after about 10 minutes the neck pickup stopped working, yet today it works perfectly again......a truely accurate copy!
20. We did it really successfully some years back with a Levellers type band, we gradually introduced our own material which fitted really well with a REM / Levellers / Waterboys covers set and gradually took the covers out, we were one of very few bands at the time still getting gigs in well known covers pubs whilst mostly playing our own material....keep a few good covers in the set, make sure your own stuff appeals to the audience / following you already have I can see no reason why you cannot transition from covers to original music.....I still get a buzz now remembering doing a gig and realising the crowd were singing back our songs not just the well known covers!
21.
From my personal experience of selling on Basschat and on eBay, I'd much rather sell on eBay. The immeasurably bigger audience far outweighs any other problems I have encountered.
I have to agree
