I looked at this one and wondered, I think it originally had a buy it now price of £500 which immediately raised my suspicions, if he has 3 and hasn't bother to disclose this is a Tribute model then he deserves to wind up in court!

Thanks guys, I had assumed that latency was likely to be the biggest issue, interestingly a number of the links above look to be to quite old software requiring systems like Windows 98 to work so hopefully there is newer faster technology available.

My old band have decided to do a couple gigs in December to celebrate a friends 50th birthday and 30 years since we last played together, so we have agreed a set and some rehearsal dates in June and July, the biggest issue we have is that the rhythm guitarist / mandolin player now lives in France, it has been decided that he will join us via Skype for rehearsals with the laptop being connected to the mixing desk so he can join in at an audible volume.......it seems to have been decided that this will work perfectly despite the fact that no one has actually tried to ensure it is going to work....so my learned friends what issues can I expect to have to try and resolve!

The measurements match up to my 50's roadworn so I would say yes they would fit nicely

Help with Live sound and home studio survey

I enjoyed that and it shows I know a bit more about the technology involved than I thought I did -
I always take a spare bass to gigs but I have stopped taking a spare amp I take a David Eden pre amp instead so I can go direct into the PA if the worst happened

I think it is one that needs close examination, I think the gasket on the neck plate is wrong for a 71 bass, it is a minor bit that could have been added later but it does raise questions, but more than anything the paint finish worries me, the only time I have seen checking like that is on a Nitro finished bass which as far as I know Fender stopped doing in 1968 so a 71 bass would be a poly finish, I have a candy apple red Precision which had a gold poly base coat with a Nitro red tint on top, that has checked in a similar way, sadly not quite as impressively as the bass in question but it does suggest it has a poly finish underneath with a later Nitro coat on top, I think it is unlikely to be a factory finish as Fender had no custom shop at the time? I suppose it could be a Nitro finish underneath with a Poly coat on top but I have no idea whether that would check in the same way as doing it the other way around

I got sacked/ replaced from a band a few years back for not fitting in, basically the drummer, guitard and singer had a real problem with being sober at either rehearsals or gigs to the point that, with their previous bassist they had actually turned up to gigs and had been too drunk to even stand up by the time it came to going on stage! I had learnt some of their songs turned up to a rehearsal, the drummer was there and set up his kit, he didn't tend to drink at rehearsals but just turned up with horrific hangovers! The other turned up 45 minutes late, half cut and cocked about for another half hour trying to plug the guitar in and tune it and get the PA working, I said very little as I drank my bottle of water and waited, anyway eventually we sort of ran through the songs and called it a day, they disappeared off to the pub and I got a call a few days later to say....thanks but I didn't really fit in with the bands ethos! I am not certain that I was actually sacked, as soon as I had left I had already decided I wouldn't be turning up to any future rehearsals so, in all fairness I had already dumped them it's just they managed to get hold of me before I bothered to call them!

Is this a mad idea? Playing house parties
Roger2611 replied to redbandit599's topic in General Discussion
Given half the gig we have played in the last year have been to no more than 20 people, playing in someone's living room would probably still not be classed as a packed venue -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WESTONE-THUNDER-1A-FRETLESS-BASS-GUITAR-/172651415055?hash=item2832d3860f:g:cb4AAOSwhvFZBKVU If the seller had bothered to look he would have seen that they don't sell for more than £200.00 so £650.00 is just silly! I like the line "I will accept £650.00" I bet he would! I am tempted to put my Thunder 3 fretless up for sale with a "will accept a 1957 Precision as a direct swap!"
The amount of these I've completed on behalf of students I should have a degree in music myself....
Or at least be mentioned as a source or sauce......one or the other should do

I have a lovely pair of ex-install Void Acoustic speakers in the spare bedroom / office / recording studio, they are brilliant for any louder applications, they are however, not allowed in the lounge as they are a little large and very white!

Done, but I wonder if Paul McCartney should be in the last question? After all he has to be one of the players that will have influenced many of the players listed already?

We have tended to get 30 minutes as a support band

We played a festival / fund raiser for the local cricket club the other year, it was on once a year only Saturday afternoon and evening, curfew 11pm, Sunday afternoon and evening curfew 9pm, small PA sited as far away from the houses as possible, they had a certain neighbour moaning by 4pm Saturday about the music and having called the police by 8pm, the festival was allowed to run it's course but the idiot complained to the parish council, result no more festival, no more cricket team, no more cricket club, land sold to developer for new housing, I hope the precious scumbag is happy with his new far closer neighbours!

We played a really weird pub a couple of years back where the bar area was raised and the pool table / stage area was down about 10 steps, I have no idea how it will have sounded up the steps but at best the speakers were at ankle height, it was really strange to be looking up at your "audience" well when I say audience I actually meant about 5 people in total....we didn't go back!

My only bass purchase this year so far has been a second hand G+L Tribute M2000 which, if I am honest, I am finding somewhat underwhelming at the moment, it plays really well but I am struggling to find a sound I really like
I hope you truely want an Epiphone Thunderbird and not a Gibson Thunderbird. IMO these are two very different bass guitars. I've owned both. Many make the mistake of thinking the Epiphone Thunderbird is an affordable less expensive Gibson Thunderbird. It's not, it"s an Epiphone Thunderbird. Blue
Are they really that different? I tried an Epiphone last year and truely hated it, I don't tend to sell many basses yet got shot of that as quick as I could, I didn't mind the sound but the bass just felt huge and unwieldy I would imagine the Gibson must feel the same?

We supported Midge Ure a few years back and I was surprised to see he was using a Vintage branded guitar, ok, it was his signature model but still a Vintage branded guitar, I said" I assumed it was some custom shop version" but no, Midge just said "it is straight out of the box straight off the production line" He said "as far as he was concerned it played and sounded absolutely spot on and if it got broken or stolen he wasn't losing a hugely expensive antique guitar" For me that is some kinda recommendation!

A second hand Roland Bass cube would be a decent choice, the 120 watt is more than gigable if you can find a decent second hand one if not the smaller ones are fine and should easily be within budget

Reaper again, Yodaclub now use this rather than Cubase, I am getting more used to the look of it and I will be swapping from Cubase before long for my own recording work

Strings. Whats on your main gigging bass and why
Roger2611 replied to bassjim's topic in General Discussion
I am a big fan of Elites, 45-105 roundwounds on everything (including fretless) other than than my USA Sub which is currently strung with Elites 40-100, I don't know why but I just fancied a lighter set on that bass -
You know your band has made it when...

When you get paid for playing original music -
I would hazard a guess on it being room acoustics, at least it wasn't the other way around where a certain note booms so badly you are worried the ceilings will fall down!
