It's nice to hear a company going that extra mile for you so as to improve the products they offer, it is also nice to hear from someone who can acurately articulate what they want in a pickup, I end up trying loads and finding one I like, In my P basses I love the Lindy Fralin pickups but I couldn't tell you what I prefer about them to Seymour Duncan's or stock pickups so I would probably be pretty useless if they wanted to design my perfect pickup! I just like the sound they produce in my basses with my playing style

My local shop / PA service centre highly recommended the Yamaha P7000S power amp as both light weight and excellent quality

I wonder if there is a bit of psychology in this, do some musicians feel they are perhaps not good enough to warrant a top of the range bass? I have an American Precision but prefer the Mexican 50's Classic and Roadworn, I had owned countless Stingray's and never took to any of them, I have just picked up a US made Sub bass and finally I find a Stingray I feel at home with. I have a cracking dealer edition Warwick $$ Corvette it has never been a go to bass for me, I dig it out from time to time, give it a whirl, think how great it is to play, then put it away and go back to a cheaper bass! I can't and never will be able to play like my bass idols despite having been playing for over 30 years, I know I am a decent bass player and I am sure I am fully deserving of a decent bass but I am not a top bass player so probably don't feel at home on a top end bass....if that makes sense?

Are you using an active bass, is the battery dying? If you have tried using different amps and speakers and still get the same fault then it suggests the issue will be elsewhere in the chain

I have a $$ Corvette, it's a dealer edition with a Streamer pre amp, it does have a huge range of sounds, people have suggested it as an alternative to a HH Stingray but I don't think it does the Stingray sound to any major degree, if you fancy a trip up to sunny Northampton you are more than welcome to come and have a play on it and make your mind up. To be honest I rarely use the Warwick now as the Yodaclub sound really suits a Precision bass sound.

In Northampton we seem to have the Charles Bradlaugh (if you can ever speak to the people that handle bookings) The Lamplighter, The King Billy (which is apparently now looking for bands outside of the heavy rock genre) and possibly the Black Prince. No point in trying the Roadmender especially if you are a local band, they never get a look in anymore!

Much as others on here, I started with crap (an Ohm Tramp...which I still have and actually still quite like!) Then through the Trace era with a nice SM300 head and the standard 1x15 4x10 set up, I then progressed to a Trace Twin Valve and a Mesa Boogie 1516E which was the best rig I ever owned, once that had completely trashed my back I finally found my way to Mark Bass gear because it sounded good but more importantly weighed a damn site less! Still got the Mark Bass gear and added a Ampeg SVT 7Pro for that Ampeg sound......not that I think it actually delivers any kind of classic Ampeg niceness, so take the Ampeg as a back up class D amp if the Mark Bass ever gives up!

I am with TheBrig on this, I have emailed the seller of a used £900+ Dee Dee Ramone Precision bass this afternoon to ask him how this bass differs to the brand new Dee Dee Ramone Precision's on sale for £671.00....I await a response It may be easy to take advantage of the unaware but it doesn't mean you should!

The nut work is to be marvelled at, I reckon it is a Maya or similar manufacturer, it will no doubt make a nice bass once renovated, as Grandur noted the body and neck are nice wood, I hate to think what you would pay for a nice 1 piece body like that from a parts supplier. It has to be our job to ensure the "renovation" work is not done the Voldermort of guitar improvements Mr Phillips, someone on hear needs to save this bass!

I know there is a lot of love on these hallowed pages for WAL basses, I have never had the chance to play one, so what makes them so special? I have owned a couple of Status basses and could never take to the sound of them, they seemed too thick sounding, all treble and bass with no middle, for some reason I imagine WAL's have the same kind of sound?

At pretty much the same money I paid for Mrs2611's current motor, I struggle to lust after it!

It looks genuine to me, nice yellowing of Olympic white, depending on the weight it could be a good price, the problem is that basses of this age can be extremely heavy which will always limit their value, who wants to gig with an 11lbs+ bass slung around their neck?

I think it is an OCD thing, our guitarist re-tunes between every other song, he plays a mid eighties American Telecaster, so a decent guitar, every time he checks the tuning, surprise surprise it's still in tune but still he checks it. I check mine twice during the set, both times on songs with at least 30 seconds before the bass comes in so it doesn't disrupt the flow of the set any more than absolutely necessary

For me it would have to be either Pino playing "Wherever I Lay My Hat" or Mr Edwards playing the solo on "Everybody Dance" but I may change my mind tomorrow and go for "Masterblaster" or "Sir Duke" or "Rhythm Stick" or "Party Fears Too"....so many great basslines so little time!

Seems a bit pricey to me considering the mods / repair and lack of serial number

I am going to have a dig through a load of wallets of photos from back in the late eighties and see if I have any photos but, I owned an Adam Thompson fretless that I am certain carried exactly the same Thompson logo and had the same little cover at the heel of the neck, from memory he was a local (Northamptonshire) bass builder with a good reputation that built a few instruments, the only thing I can remember for certain about mine was that it was too big to fit in any bass cases or gig bags.....that would suggest something of a Thunderbird type body.....anyway the lack of any way to transport it was the reason it was soon traded on I have Googled the name but nothing is coming up, I do still see the guy that used to own the shop I brought it from, next time I see him I will see if he remembers anything

Irrespective of what it is I reckon it is a pretty good price for one of these now

Have you considered building one of your own? There are plenty of necks and bodies available on Evilbay without the need to spend large sums of money, I put one together recently for less than £200 with a Seymour Duncan pickup, decent hardware and electrics, it has no real value as a complete instrument meaning it is easy to justify having about as a practice / backup bass. Mine is actually a perfectly gigable bass after a little simple setting up

I had the TA 40 (bolt on neck version) It was a perfectly good bass, not too heavy, well made, played fine and sounded decent, it was nothing special but it did exactly what you would expect a decent Aria bass to do. If you like the look of it I don't think you will be disappointed in how it plays or sounds, I have to say I have missed mine on occasions Looking at the price, I sold my lower spec one for a fair bit more than the seller is asking for this one

I fully expect that class D technology comes with a built in expiry date, probably based on hours used rather than dates otherwise certain models of amps would all fall over at the same kinda time....hang on didn't the Ampeg Portaflex do that pretty much from new?
