1.
Do eBay actually do anything about reporting? There are a few sellers of fake hockey jerseys that I've been consistently reporting when I see their listings and eBay have never done a thing about it.
These listings were the same as a spate of fake listings a couple of years back, the scammer hijacks a genuine seller account with the standard "do not bid, email this Gmail / Hotmail address for terms on buying" the listings are all for very expensive items all at the same "bargain" price with free postage and all listings with a single photo....for some reason the scammers were too thick to realise that using the same photos everytime was a bit of a giveaway! The seller t3cjn would have been totally unaware they had been hacked, looking at their other listings they had no other items for sale so would have been totally unaware of the scammer. Ebay did seem to have a handle on this for the last couple of years, I was surprised to see the same scam return especially with the same pictures. Ebay did pull the items very quickly and to a degree Ebay is self policing, a number of camera items listed had been bid to 3 or 4 times what the scammer was offering buy it now for, we will highlight it on here...but it only takes one idiot to think they can pick up a mint 64 Jazz for £1000 and the scammer gets away with it For those that sell on Ebay...check you for sale items regularly!
2.
Dying twice is really bad luck. Having said that, anyone who saw us play in the early days saw us die live on stage pretty much every night.
To die once is unfortunate to die twice is careless in the extreme
3. "You pays your money you takes your chance" all parcel companies will do their best to get your bass delivered quickly and undamaged but all parcel companies will have had horror stories against them from disgruntled customers, I guess they transport tens of thousands of items every year, most without any issue so the chances of it getting damaged, whilst no less annoying if it does happen, is probably very low
4. Just for anyone that has been living on Mars for the last couple of years...the scammers are back on Ebay....this is a scam along with everything else listed on this poor seller page at the moment....don't be tempted! All reported so Ebay should pull them shortly but just wanted to warn people again http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-1966-FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-J-BASS-ELECTRIC-GUITAR-/301852859833?hash=item4647d51db9:g:6ZEAAOSwCypWn79u
5. I have a feeling this is a scam sale as I recognise the useless description from a few years back....I doubt many are queuing up the buy this "Jazz" bass but I doubt it would be much of a bargain! I assume it would be payment by Western Union only!
6. Why? and another question......why?
7. I would expect a decent front man to be able to learn 30 songs over a couple of months and gig them with a music stand close by for about another 4 or 5 months after that
8. I can remember one thing Sid Vicious said "Listen to the Eagles they're better than us" I did....he was correct! RIP Glen another song writing genius stolen away
9. I guess if I were auditioning for a tribute band I would want to learn the basslines note for note, for a covers band it is always going to be a compromise, learn the song so you can jam along confidently to it, turn up to the audition and see how they play it, you can add and take away as needed....remember all covers bands are going to be a compromise of sorts, they will all be learning and trying to play the famous radio friendly versions of most of the songs which will usually mean they are full of overdubs and embellishments that you cannot hope to fully replicate live. Learn the songs to a jam-able standard, turn up, play with confidence and enjoy it, if you know you can play then it is the latter two that will get you the gig
10.
I really like playing Long Road To Ruin from this album, really nice bass in it, nothing flashy, just works
Great song, we used to play it in the covers band, never went down well for some reason so sadly we dropped it but it was one i really liked playing, we were doing Times Like These which stayed around in the set longer than any other Foo's songs we played, I would certainly look at The Pretender in future covers bands
11. I always try to look after my gear, always use a stand etc. I wouldn't deliberately damage any of them but if they do pick up a ding it is part of that proper vintage mojo that many desire over the factory faked look, on stage I play mostly older Fender basses, i think they look better a little run in, on the other hand I would be annoyed if my Warwick picked up a dent as it is still in mint condition.
12. I have seen quite a few tribute / faker acts in recent years, Rumours of Fleetwood Mac, an ELO tribute, a brilliant Abba tribute act, the Counterfeit Stones etc all were brilliant, I would happily attend a festival with that line up as, quite simply, I am never going to attend a festival featuring the original artists on the same bill....even if they did play again I wouldn't be able to afford the tickets
13. I think I responded to your other thread on this, take it to a local bodyshop, they have the facilities to do you a grand job, they won't strip it right back to the wood, they will just key it, prime it and paint it whatever colour you desire.....if it is not stripped back to bare wood then it is exactly the same as painting a car bonnet or bumper....any bodyshop with a decent reputation will return you a body you will be happy with. http://www.howardbasford.co.uk/crewe.php this is a company I have had dealings with over the years and have always returned good quality workmanship, they are not too far from the location in your signature, ring them up and ask the question
14. So I am guessing you don 't like promoters then
15. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/fender-squier-precision-bass-/201504158939?hash=item2eea9574db:g:broAAOSwL7VWlQS4 At least he hasn't described it as matching headstock!
16. The pickup description made me smile, definitely a quality "Squire" bass for sale! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squire-Vintage-Modified-Precision-Bass-Guitar-Duncan-Seymour-pick-ups-/181992606208?hash=item2a5f9aca00:g:oeAAAOSw5dNWmSDQ
17. I replied to an add for a bass player wanted some years back and ended up going to meet a guitarist that had been playing for some twenty years or more......definitely more as he turned out to be at least 70 years old and still lived with his 90+ year old mum! anyway I was invited up to his bedroom where he had a dirt cheap Strat copy and a ten watt practice amp.....he was utterly lousy on the guitar and after about 3 minutes dear old mum staggers in yelling at him to shut the bloody noise up....a slanging match between the two ensued.....I made my excuses and left...he rang me three times after that to see when we were going to start this band and got quite shirty when I said it wasn't going to happen...like ever. Not up to that of the OP by a long way but I still have that nagging fear whenever I answer an add for the first time
18. My mate has spent years studying this bassline, he came round and showed me a load of videos of different people playing it but I think it was this one he picked out as having the right sound because of the technique he uses....don't ask me whether it is right or not I couldn't play this bassline if there were 3 or me! https://youtu.be/o53LqAWUKBA
19. I guess a lot of us brought basses because our heroes used them on tv (not necessarily on the records though!) I was certainly influenced by Dee Dee Ramone in the bass I so wanted to own....would I buy a signature bass, probably not because it was a signature bass but in the case of the Nate Mendal Precision then yes but because it has such excellent reviews on here.
20. Although probably not a direct influence on me but without question an huge influence over every band that came after which influenced, and continues to influence, me to this day. I admit I shed a tear today.....RIP a true legend
21. Mine is probably "The Man Who Sold The World" I just love the haunting vocals at the back end of the song....same with Under Pressure....my biggest memory of Bowie was his performance at Live Aid I was proper moved!
22.
I`m like this with Stingrays, love them when others play them but they just don`t sound right when I play them. Similar with Jazzes though they are growing on me, I just want to find one that I really gel with.
Totally agree, I think I am finally free of Stingray GAS, I love the look of them but just can't get on with the sound. I also have to agree with most of the other posts, if you keep picking up other basses rather than this one...then it is time to free up some cash and some space for your next bout of GAS!
23. I have to agree with Truckstop (other than the Red Bull / KFC bit...that's my idea of Studio heaven!) Our local studio used to feel small and claustrophobic it had lots of little rooms off the main room, one year they knocked them all down and increased the roof height by going into the upper floor, made one big live room with a floor to ceiling window to the mixing room and really nice lighting, it totally transformed the ambiance of the studio, suddenly it became a nice place to want to spend your days / nights If you Google "The Lodge Studio, Northampton and have a look at the photos there is an excellent shot of the live room, I couldn't grab an image and attach it on here
24.
Not sure why its sideways ,
Simple, it's the weight of it affecting the earths gravity
