1. Hi guys, I thought I would put up my first real restoration project, I have to say i am really pleased with the results, it was a horribly reliced Diamond Beatmaster from 1976, it looked horrendous as it was, I have always fancied a TV Yellow Junior so decided to give it a go with the results as imaged Stripping the finish was absolutely horrible as is was like 2mm of epoxy resin set hard over nearly 40 years, fortunately one of the repair centres I work with were kind enough to strip the bulk of the finish off for me
2. I think proportionally the Wal looks beautiful, for me it just looks right however, I would be put off owning one due to perceived weight issues and I don't think the electrics would give me the sound I wanted (not being keen on active electronics) I owned a Status series 3000 a few years ago, another beautiful looking bass but I just could not get a sound out of it that I liked
3. Yep what more do you need other than a good P
4.
http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2ca2e3ad33 It's a fine job, to be sure. I'm only worried that his [s]main[/s] only tools are a hammer and toothbrush
Corrected
5. Isn't this the standard make up of a band? Singer, needs to be an egomaniac type if they are any good as a front person, they need to be handled with care, the guitarist has the 2nd biggest ego again needs to be handled with care but he / she knows a good guitarist is easier to come by than a good front man... so a little hidden insecurity! The bass player, keeps the peace between singer and guitarist, keeps the band together, knows that without them the band is nothing, but is far too modest to shove it down said singer and guitarist's throat, Drummer says very little, they know the singer and guitarist have to be suffered but acknowledges the bass player holds the band together but also knows full well that without a good drummer the bass player is nothing! Keyboard players.....err I am sure that have a use But seriously I don't think I have ever played in a decent band where the singer and guitarist don't see themselves as "special" and as a bass player my attitude has always been "yeah whatever keeps the peace" if they try getting too "special" then I have voiced my concerns, things usually settle down again
6. I have my avatar bass for the bigger gigs and recording and the rest of the Precision's rotate as practice / smaller gig basses, the none Precision's I need to get off my backside and sell!
7.
A loan ;-)
I'm with him on this!
8. I am a big fan of the Lindy Fralin pickups I have different pickups in each of my Precision's and the Fralin equipped one is definitely my favourite and is preferred by both bands as well.....how much of it is down to the pickup though is a different question!
9. I am in the process of cutting back to just Precision's...trouble is I already have a lot of Precision's!
10. I don't think I would want to risk £1500 on that one, I am not sure about the body finish either there looks to be too much Black in the burst finish but that may be an illusion with the clearly wrong pick guard
11. There has been an add in Guitar and Bass mag for a while that makes me want to be mischievous....it is pretty much "Bass player wanted for rock band must be over 22 years old and HAVE LONG BROWN HAIR" I mean WTF I am so tempted to find a photo of a beautiful naked blonde lady playing bass and send it to them saying....really wanted to apply but hair is wrong colour..sorry goodbye...sadly as yet I have been unable to find said photo to allow me to carry out my evil plan
12. At best a Squier neck...."presumably American made" err no
13. I am confused by the argument, had the buyer of the amp then immediately put it back out for sale for £2.000.000 you would just have thought he was plain crazy but because he is trying to sell it for a bit more than he gave you for it then he is devious? I would hate to think how many times I have part exchanged gear to music shops that I have done loads of business with over the years knowing full well they are asking more than they paid for the item I want and are offering me a lot less then they are going to sell the item I am trading in...if that makes sense! If I am happy with the deal offered then all well and good if I am not then I don't do the deal. I traded a Patrick Eggle Milan bass some years back, I got a £500 Telecaster Custom in the deal, for the following 3 years that bass hung on the wall of the shop with a £1200 price tag against it....I was never annoyed at the price they were asking I was quite pleased that no one was unfortunate enough to be the new owner of what was a truly lousy bass!
14. Midnight to six man, for the first time from Jamaica
15. Excellent, my colleague managed a more expensive "drunken" purchase, she spent £1300 on a pair of hand made Italian shoes that were too high to walk in and two sizes too big for her!
16. I thought you were indicating a change in the weather for a moment....we could do with a bit of sunshine if the rainy season ever finishes
17.
I'd second Dakota, dead easy, and the crowds love it, which always makes you feel good!
Dakota was the first thing that sprang to my mind as well
18.
Three, according to Wikipedia: Did you know those old Avons & Shaftesburys were actually hand-made in a shed in Clapham, by a prodigiously talented 13-year old called Rosie Morris? True that. J.
This needs to go in the alternative rock and roll facts thread, information as good as this must be shared!
19. At least they are being realistic about not needing a quick sale, I imagine if they hang on to it for say....I don't know 200 years or so or until all the wood has run out and all guitars are made of plastic then maybe it will be worth their asking price
20. That's the problem when you get your 6 year old daughter to proof read your ad!
21. I love my Fenders, I have recently decided to cull all the non Fender Precision basses after finally realising that the Precision basically just works, I decided to give the Warwick a rare outing the other week, it is a 2010 German dealer only LTD edition Corvette $$, so all in all a pretty decent bass, I used it for the first half of a gig in a room with awful acoustics, it was horrendous, every time I played a G the whole room shook like a Chilean earthquake yet all other notes you could hardy hear! At the interval I switched to my 1986 Jap Precision (the Precision version of the Jazz Bass Special) the whole second set I could hear every note, the sound was far better balanced, I don't know why but the Precision bass just does the job where a bass with far more tonal options seemed to struggle...explain that if you will! After the gig a random punter wandered over and asked why the "good looking" bass sounded horrible in the first half....what more can I say other than Leo Fender really did get it right first time
22.
My rig is a Little Mark II with a compact 2x10 and compact 1x15 as in the avatar <-. I like the flexibility it gives. The 2x10 for rehearsals, coffee bar gigs etc (which it give more than enough vol and bass for) and the two cabs for bigger gigs or vocal/acoustic only PA covers gigs (pubs, weddings, functions etc). The LMII is light and in a rucksack case. The LMII and the 2x10 seems more back friendly to me than the equivalent Markbass combo. I love the Markbass stuff but you could get a similar result with lots of other lightweight brands.
I have exactly the same rig and completely agree with the above
Ohhh I so want.........my head examining before I parted with my cash for these..... Do we agree that decent cables do make a difference to those normally supplied with guitars, hifi, TV etc? If so I wonder what the cut off point is where the cable is no longer an improvement over the standard but just becomes a status symbol purchase?
24. Well you can buy Flea's autograph for £69.95 so I am assuming the bass is made of solid gold
