1. It's simple, someone broke the end bit off.....sandpapered it down to sawdust then glued the sawdust to the neck in a random pattern .....simples
2. RIP Bryn.....Thanks for the Night!
3. Is this possibly the best possible use for a Digitech Bass Synth Wah pedal ?
4. With a description like that I'm going to have to start the bidding at £500.00..............not!
5. Nelly The Elephant is my fave Just though of another: TV Stars by the Skids, B side to Into The Valley from memory, pays homage to Ena Sharples and Albert Tatlock
6. Do you really need such volume from the bass bins on stage? we are a Rock/ pop covers band and use a single powered bass bin with the crossover set to pick up the bass drum more than anything else and I don't even hear the sub onstage
7. Having owned both I would go with the Mexican 50's bass but, every bass is different the Greco may be the best one they ever made the 50's could be a dodgy one that you don't take to, if you can try both before you decide that will give you best guidance
8. I like Vintage TV, I think it is the best of the dedicated music channels available at the moment but I can't help thinking that one day there will be a really good music channel, I am imagining a channel concentrating on the "rockumentries" shown on BBC4 and Sky Arts mixed with interviews, tour news, live bands ala Whistle Test etc
9. RIP Rico, I will give the Specials records an outing this evening
10. I had a look at this, it has the nice actives found on the Westone Thunders will probably sound nice and play well
11. I used to work for a Rolls Royce dealership, when I started there I simply couldn't understand how someone could see / justify spending £250.000 on a car, quite simply they are not 100 times better than the bread and butter Ford Sierra that everyone was driving at the time, the sales manager explained it to me as follows: To a buyer of a Rolls Royce at £250.000 it has the same or less impact on their finances as you or I spending £2000 on a car, simply put they can afford it, to many of them it wasn't a status symbol it was the best that money could buy, it made them happy...... To me that does make sense....I have the ability to try and own a good few basses and actually find one I like and sell on those that I don't like, I currently own a very expensive Warwick which I really like but choose to gig with a pink Mike Dirnt Squier Precision (with Fender decal!) why...because I am using the bass I like best, I could, and have gigged the Warwick and did actually get comments on the bass, yet it was with the Squier that I got favourable comments on the sound I produced.
12. I keep folding my cables in half until they get to a length I can tie them in a loose knot,I don't seem to have any issues with permanent twisting or curling, I have not had a cable fail in fifteen years or more now....yes I know fate has now been well and truly tempted! look for my thread this coming Sunday entitled dramatic cable failure at gig!!
13. We do Counting Stars (One Republic) and Will You Love Me Again (John Numan) I dislike both because I don't think we do them justice as a single guitar, Bass, drums and vox line up, I think they miss the light and shade the keys and other extras bring to the songs but, and it is a big butt Punters like them, they dance to them and comment on how unusual it was to hear the songs, I guess that largely they hear the missing parts in their heads (especially when beer has had some input) so give us license for the songs not to be an exact copy
14. I never enjoy playing Counting Stars or Will You Love Me Again.....pretty much the same bass line for both, it's not that I dislike the basslines I just don't like the songs, however they seem to go down well with the all important punters so we keep playing
15.
Now we're talking! And Gaye Bykers; we supported them a number of times as well - far more my shot of JackyD than Carter...
I stage crew'ed for Gaye Bikers when they played the Roadmender in Northampton back in 1986/7.......such is my claim to fame
16. The Chameleons Script of the Bridge is an excellent album, the Chameleons were a very overlooked band in general and inspired many bands that came after them
17.
how so? The only difference between the nitro and the non-nitro basses is .....er........the nitro finish - how can the finish alone make them totally different basses? Just wondering
They just are The Roadworn feels like you have been playing it for 30 years or more, the poly finish feels like a new bass should. Sounds wise they are not radically different but it is in the feel of the bass that the real difference lies. I own both and the difference is huge, don't get me wrong, both are fantastic basses but my two are totally different.
18. Hi, Anyone out there own and play a Dearmond Starfire bass? I like the look of a semi acoustic bass, I tried an Eastwood Classic 4 but was not impressed with the build quality. I also tried the Gretsch Electromatic and was very disappointed with the one I played. I own a beautiful Dearmond MT77 guitar which is as well built as any Gibson or Fender I have ever played so I am hoping the Starfire will have the same kind of build quality and hopefully sound decent as well? Cheers Rog
19. Great basses and totally different to their poly finished counterpart, GLWTS
20. I am sure the eleventh commandment was going to be "thou shalt not turn up and play bass in someones band without being asked" They just ran out of room on the tablet to fit it in!
21. So, with the increase in activity for my originals band, Yodaclub I have been forced to choose between the covers band and the originals band as unfortunately the two cannot continue to run side by side, the bookings for the originals band seems to come at very short notice so conflicts with gigs booked months in advance for the covers band! My seat in the covers band is up for grabs I have played with the band for over 6 years now, we have headlined festivals, supported Midge Ure and generally had a bloody good time and developed a very good reputation I want the band to continue after I go so I am looking for my replacement!! Currently we are a 4 piece band, guitar, bass, drums, rhythm guitar / vocals going under the name "Anyone Out There" The set is a real mix from Kings of Leon, Stereophonics, The Cult, The Killers, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Oasis, etc. The other members are decent musicians, the vocalist, Neil has a brilliant voice and is a good front man without being a total pain in the backside that normally comes with a good front man Age wise the band is all fifty or thereabouts.we try to limit gigging to 2 a month but will chuck the occasional extra one in, you have no heavy drinkers, drug users or big ego's to have to cope with so all in all it is a nice environment to play in. I have told them I will be leaving at the end of Feb 2016 with the option to stay on until end of March if my replacement is not up to speed by then. So there you have it, it is with a heavy heart I step away from this band as they are a good bunch of guys. If you are interested please PM me Cheers Rog
22. I would recommend the older the better Peavey XR PA head and if you are feeling strong a used pair of Peavey Hysis 2's you should get that set up within your budget and it will give you an excellent "portable" PA system
23. Pretty much as the title says!! Our first gig in Leicester prior to supporting the Primitives later in the year, if you are at a lose end come along and see what the fuss is all about
