1. That be salesman talk I think!
2. I run the Stage Clix Jack, I have never had issues with smart phones although I did knock out the wifi at a venue we played for the entirety of our set which was a bit of a pain as the DJ wanted to stream it live to the net! The only issue I have had with the system is it can be very noisy if plugged directly into an active bass (other than a Stingray for some reason!) I had to knock up a simple extension cable to move the transmitter away from the actives...no problems since
3.
80's just could not follow the late 70's punk explosion. Pistols...Clash...Damned...Stranglers...These and many others were mind blowingly exciting after all the rock and metal that had stagnated the day before Punk arrived. Then after punk we get....Howard jones...The Thomson Twins.... Bananarama....Hayzee Fantayzee ...Zigue Zigue Sputnik...Even the names look pants......And the cherry on the cake was Adam ' Prince Charming' Ant who bought with him the most insane fashion to match the blandness of the music..... 'Down in the tube station at midnight' or 'Agadoo'...... Give me a minute to think...
I saw Zigue Zigue Sputnik at Coventry Poly on their only? tour, Tony James on bass threatened to hit a girl with a wine bottle when she tried to snog him! They were pretty dire live but were supported by a band called Black Elvis 2000 who were awesome, I remember a chant ringing round of "bring back the support band" I think they got kicked off the tour a couple of dates later!
4. Once you find the tone you like you will always know how to get back to it, every room you play in will sound different and in certain rooms the sound you love will completely desert you...at that point you can make small adjustments to counteract the nasty acoustics of that room but, you always know where your favoured sound lies
5. 1979 to 1981 were my seminal music years, tail end of Punk, start of Goth, start of the New Romantic scene....some amazing music around that time, I stayed interested until Bros came along in 86?....that was about it for me! Echo Beach was recorded in 1979 but released in 1980...great song!
6. Made £22.00 at a car boot sale, money went to feed a bunch of homeless pussy cats
7. A lot of listings say "I will leave feedback once I have received feedback" I have messaged buyers before to make sure they had actually received the item as they hadn't left any feedback, it does tend to gee them up into leaving it
8. Squier neck at best as well!
9. I have long since championed Stuart Morrow (New Model Army's original bassist) his style is so distinct, I cannot think of another bassist who plays in that style, reading biog's about the band Justin Sullivan has always said that it was what Stuart brought to the band that gave them the edge to get them signed. The way the counter melodies work under the song and the sheer amount of notes he manages to squeeze in without overcrowding the song, to me makes him special. From memory of reading the biog's again according to Justin, Stuart just used to turn up and play these basslines he didn't sit down for hours on end working out the counter melodies he just knew what worked! A massive influence to my playing and certainly worth a listen to (recommended listening "No Man's Land" or "Vengeance") https://youtu.be/eE7WjPsrCf4 https://youtu.be/vxqWdSOVI9U
10. I watched a few minutes of it, unsurprisingly not my bag at all, like Tim R I grew up in the 80's with the likes of Grandmaster Flash (who happens to be headlining the Sonic stage tonight!) and the start of the Hip Hop scene, I can't see how Kanye West's style can be compared, I cannot think of another genre that has moved so far from its beginnings. I thought it was a shame the lighting rig was all led lights as had they been the good old par cans he would have been fully cooked and ready to serve within 10 minutes! So far I think both nights headline acts have not been a good choice, I am hoping for something more exciting tonight
11. If it's a 70's reissue, it's not very accurate, the truss rod adjuster is at the wrong end, scratch plate lacks the all important extra hole in the centre of the guard and the neck plate has no gasket from what I could see....still at £250.00 it is a fair price for a Mexican precision
12. I am terrible for it, back up bass, back up amp, back up mike, countless leads..but what the hey, I am the bass player I keep the band up and running, if/when something fails it is me that fixes it away from the gigs so I may as well do it at the gigs. Looked in the bottom of my leads case I take out live and found an unused set of electric guitar strings still there and I haven't played guitar in a band for a good few years! I guess if I take a spare I am less likely to need it, but it equals less stress
13. It's just a list, not a definitive list as it is always going to be subjective, to me Stuart Morrow (original New Model Army) has got to be one of the most creative bass players I have ever heard but if Nathan East's style is your bag you may well listen to Morrows work and just think it a noise!
14. Excellent so the band who should have called it a day 15 years ago are not playing this year......are you listening Ms Harry.....an appearance in white socks and granny sandals whilst wearing some kind of children's harness whilst singing out of tune....will not be missed this year
15. I went to see Amy MacDonald the other year, she changed guitar after every single song, either she didn't arrange the set very well if they were different tunings or she wasn't confident her guitars would stay in tune....either way...sort it out lady! Bass played used a rather nice Jaguar throughout the set
16. It's funny how we refer to terms without actually knowing what the term really means....that Precision bass growl....mine doesn't and I would be scared if I picked it up and it actually growled at me...I would put it down and back away slowly!
17. I have a Squier Bass VI in the White, it looks ace and is really nicely built but I still can't find a situation that I can use it in! for that reason I would go for the Jaguar
18. I have just picked up an Epiphone Classic IV I have played it a few times and have decided I really don't like it, it feels huge when compared to a Precision, it can do a Precision type sound quiet well but then again so does a Precision, at least a Precision fits in a gig bag and at least a Precision case fits in the boot of a big car, the Epiphone falls short on both accounts....shame really because it looks great!
19. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c9c92c965 Nice rig but horribly heavy buy it if you have roadies!
20. Difficult to advise without knowing your exact set up, a vocal mike into a line input is always going to struggle, you could put a preamp in before the mike is plugged in but I am not convinced that will really do the job, you could consider another mini mixer with 4 xlr inputs (for example) and load the 4 vocals onto the extra mixer, you could then insert that into your main mixer via one of the stereo line in channels so effectively giving you a vocal buss (all vocals mixed to one channel, one slider would raise or lower all the vocals) you should be able to find a mini mixer for less than £50.00 on Evlibay
21. At a recent gig our guitarists Fender amp packed up during the sound check, he was forced to use a Blackstar amp borrowed from the main band fortunately it worked perfectly
22. The 50's classic Precision in my avatar picture....well it started life as a 50's classic!
23. We tend to play places no more than twice a year so at 2 gigs a month it is only twelve different venues a year, we have weeded out the venues we don't want to play but will always give a new place a go and see how they promote the first gig, if they do a good job, we will go back, if not we bin them
24. I love punk but just can't do The Damned live, last time I saw them it was a set of about 5 songs with extended guitar solos until you get really bored, Oi Captain you aint Dave Gilmour so stop it! I think they are playing Northampton this week, sadly I won't be attending!
