1. I have looked at this thread and have drawn two conclusions, firstly I want a shell pink Precision and secondly I prefer the tort pickguard / rosewood combination....now I am in posession of a Shoreline Gold Fretless P bass with ebinol board and I am also in posession of a tort guard.....off to Halfords for some Shell Pink paint then!
2. The face of the headstock worries me it looks like there is no lacquer on it, just stain and logo, it looks like a "passable" fake to me
3.
I don't have a particular problem with relicing in itself, as long as there's some logic to it. The top horn, fair enough. The centre and end top edges, OK. Behind the pickups, fine. But WTF happened under the bridge??
Mice infestaition if you ask me, fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your prospective I guess, the mice were unable to climb up and eat the headstock
4. Curtley Ambrose (the famous West Indian fast bowler) was on Radio 5 this afternoon, he admitted his current favourite pastime is playing bass in a reggae band...respect!
5. Spend as much as you can on a decent instrument, I dread to think how many aspiring guitarists / bass players have given up within weeks of starting because the instrument they are leaning on is a badly set up, painful to play cheap bit of tat....get something that feels good and plays well and you can enjoy progressing
6. A bit of practice and you will soon feel at home on it, the hardest thing for me is the switch back to 4 strings, if feels like you need to order a taxi to get from one string to the next....I have long since worried I could get far to used to a 5 string to the detriment of by beloved 4 strings...hence I rarely play the 5 string...shame really
7. Just picked up a roadworn Precision in the two tone sunburst, I think it's rather nice, I have a tobacco burst Les Paul, a cherryburst 335 and a really pretty 3 tone sunburst Les Paul junior and today I have sold a tobacco burst Telecaster to a good friend, so yeah, sunburst works for me
8. Got the response below from the seller in Poole, it does look legit but a bit naughty using someone elses pictures! Hi Rog, My bass is pretty much identical in every respect to the other one, and the photo s taken were nearly the same so I used them, but here is one I have just taken so you can see they are virtually identical
9. I have asked the guy in Poole who actually has the bass for sale, I will let you know what he comes back with, if you look at the reflection of the photographer in the bass (on both listings) it looks to be a lady with a large bangle on her wrist so they are definitely the same photos
10. In answer to recent threads about song we hate playing a bit of an oppersite thread.....I have always loved The Blockheads but always thought the bass lines were way too hard to play, anyway I found myself at a loose end earlier this week and decided to have a bash at "What a Waste" fifteen minutes later I am happily playing along with the song....chuffed or what! Anyway I am off to "hit something with a rhythm stick now" (although that one doesn't sound as if will be an easy learn)
11. I am the same, I can't find the sweet spot on a Jazz much the same as the G spot on the wife....I think it's a myth
12. So I am still waiting with baited breath to know if the bass is ok or has the nuclear rage risen again......I do hope it's ok, I just haven't seen a nuclear rage before
13. trust yourself, you can do it, I like more than sitting in a very darkened room [s]watching porn[/s] I mean practicing our songs, if you can play it in the dark, you can do it on a low light stage and even look at the lovely audience if you have one and they are indeed lovely
14. Very sad part of one of the most important bands of all time
15. I guess if you have a 54 strat with a missing or incorrect knob replacing it with the irght one could easily increase the value by a couple of grand so in that context it could be a bargain form the right person....to everybody else it is a bloody expensive knob!
16. We played an open mic night recently and there was a few solo acts where clearly it was only their immediate family who thought they had even the slightest bit of talent, the worst being a wailing woman solo "artist" murdering "I Walk the Line" she could either play the guitar badly or sing terribly but not do both at the same time!!
17. From memory the B side of The Skids, In To The Valley was TV Stars....a song paying homage to Ena Sharples, Albert Tatlock and Leonard Rossiter!
18. My mates had an old punk band called "Kipper Trench" They soon changed it to "By Order of the Seven Fat Pigs" which was marginally better
19. You can buy from Mark with confidence, and I am sure the bass will not turn out to be stolen as you are buying from a very reputable source, however what happens when you decide to part with it? Obviously, I am not casting aspersions on your character but to trade to another shop, how will they view the missing serial number? To sell privately, again you can give assurances and show where you brought it from, but there will always be doubt and hence the bass would have to be priced accordingly....personally I would walk away from it purely for the uncertainty of being able to sell it on
20. Trouble is you amass a collection of excellent basses all with a reason to be kept!
21.
Think i'll give chrome a try again, my friends were dead serious about not using firefox yet would not elaborate ^^^unedted lne
So "the man" knows I hang out on Basschat if I use firefox......it could be worse, but I am glad I view "Chiuhuaua's in Tutu's" via Chrome then
